My understanding from reading this article, is that the tip came fairly recently via a whistle-blower after the FBI had already been investigating this for months.

My understanding is the tip came Two Weeks BEFORE the election.
Plenty of time to Put Betrayus under oath to determine if the affair was true
And if National Security was compromised. It is not Cantors responsibility
To determine if the tip was credible or not.
That’s what committees do. The fact he notified the FBI is good.
The fact he did not refer this to his committees is bad.
Was Dr. Kelley on Petaeus’ team when possibly treated at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa? Something is up here, ... and it may have not been Petraeus. :o/

The Florida woman who received harassing emails from Paula Broadwell, spurring an FBI probe that ultimately uncovered the Gen. David Petraeus’ extramarital affair with his biographer and led to his resignation as director of the CIA, has been identified as Jill Kelley, a local concerned citizen who volunteers to help the military.
“We and our family have been friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his and his family’s privacy and want the same for us and our three children,” Kelley said in a statement.
A close friend of Petraeus said Kelley and her husband, who are both civilians but supporters of the military community, befriended the Petraeus’ when the general was stationed in Florida.

(CNN) — Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. military commander in the Middle East, has been treated for early stage prostate cancer and says recent screening tests have delivered “very positive” news.

Did you guys just hear Jennifer Griffin on FOX? FIRST- AP reported the command is in Tampa when in fact, it is at Ft. Bragg...AND Jill Kelley does NOT work for the Dept of State nor CentCom- she does not have a job that means she needs to stay in touch with Petraeus- they are family friends of Holly and David Petraeus.
And- it now seems it may NOT have been Paula Broadwell who wrote those threatening emails...so now the question is- WHO DID? And why in the HELL didn’t the FBI notify ANYONE that the DCIA was under investigation and that someone was trying to blackmail him?
NONE of this makes...sense.
Perhaps someone wanted to put an end to the compromising situation Petraeus was in. Someone who wanted to hire him.

Looking more and more like Petraeus may have been on the left all along we just didn't know.That alone can explain a lot. This story is a bit convoluted. At first I heard that petraeus broke off the affair when he joined cia. Than later I heard he kept on e-mailing the woman--huge numbers of e mails.Hard to sort it all out.

But in the Fox TV report, Griffin said, “according to sources that we’ve talked to in BOTH families, it may not have been Paula Broadwell herself.”
Griffen continues: “This has been tainted as a fight between two women over Gen Petraeus, but it is not clear that that’s what it was at all.”
Griffen: “What we do have confirmation of is that people [people???] close to David Petraeus were potentially receiving threatening emails that may have been, in fact, an attempt to blackmail the Director of the CIA.”
Who sent those emails, & what was the nature of the threat.
Griffen: “There is one other point I think it is important to clarify. It is not clear that this is about an affair with Paula Broadwell at all.”
Griffen goes on to say that the affair was a open secret his closest friends and that the FBI likely would have known about it. She says, It is not clear why this is coming out right now.”
DUH! We suspected FBI & WH had to have known of affair long ago. KT McFarland confirms this. The FBI and WH knew EIGHTEEN MONTHS ago that Petraeus had an affair.
Notes on interview on Judge Jeanine last night with KT McFarland (national security commentator and personal friend of Petraeus)
She said 18 months ago Petraeus would have had an investigation and a polygraph (for CIA Director) from the FBI. The FBI and WH (because file would go to WH Personnel office) knew then about the affair.
She said in spring of 2011 when she was in Afghanistan there were “definitely rumors (about the affair) from a number of people.”
She also said that when senior official testifies before Congress, they submit their testimony to the WH. If they didn’t like what Petraeus was going to say....
She is certain that Petraeus would NOT lie under oath.

This has now become another scandal having nothing to do with Petraeus’ affair, or, at least, only incidentally.
What a tangled mess. It seems to me that someone is now throwing so much stuff into the air to confuse the media with sex crap instead of the broader issues of blackmail and Benghazi. Media of course is glad to oblige.

Once Kelley’s name was revealed today and that she vacations with Holly and David, I wondered why she didn’t call Petraeus about it first. Now, in light of new info, for all we know, he might have been the person who told her to call the FBI.
When Griffin said “PEOPLE,” instead of person (Kelley), I wondered if maybe Broadwell herself might have gotten a threatening email.
Also, I haven’t seen this confirmed, but Peter King said FBI has been investigating for the last FOUR months...which is more than a couple, which is the phrase I have seen thrown around in reports.
Finally, I am wondering if/hoping Petraeus has some new plans for some non-sexual extra-circular activities until he finds a new job.

Last I read the state dept would not confirm or deny Kelly’s employment, so I appreciate your report that Jennifer got that question settled. I’m resigned to the printed word and FR.
I have not watched FOX news since the election, nor any other news. I am so done, for the time being, with all the hype and clatter and opted instead for a spiritual retreat of the in-house variety. The silence is bliss.

Possible scenario:
Blackmailer: Paula Kelley, you tell your friend Petraeus to (fill in the blank with a demanded action or inaction) or I (we) will reveal his affair with Broadwell.
What threatened actions or inactions could the blackmailer be demanding from Petraeus?
Assuming that the blackmail has something to do with Benghazi, off the top of my head:
1. Resign immediately and shut up
2. Stick to the video demonstration story that we told you to tell during the first congressional briefing, only make it more convinceing this time!
3. Whatever you do don’t tell the truth about Barry’s involvement (failure to issue CBA) or that of his key underlings
