A posting on Gizmodo, a technology weblog that is part of the Gawker Media network, has drawn a lot of attention with a post that purports to show that educated people (and by implication smart people) were more likely to vote for Obama. Titled The Effect of College Education On the Presidential Election, it consists mainly of a graphic showing that the ten best educated states in the country (as measured by the percentage of residents over age 25 with bachelor degrees) all voted for Obama, while nine of the ten worst educated states voted for Romney.
Gizmodo editor Jose Diaz, who posted this material, comments sarcastically, Perhaps theres no correlation. Perhaps it is just a coincidence. Maybe we should ask the next Secretary of Wizardry and Mathemagics, Nate Silver. Whatever the answer is, I just know that I freaking love statistics.
Unfortunately theres no magic here, and Diaz is no Nate Silver. This is a classic instance of what statisticians call the ecological fallacy inferring individual behavior on the basis of aggregated data about a group to which the individual belongs.
As an example of how this works, consider that seven of the ten states with the highest percentage of African Americans voted for Romney, compared to only three that voted for Obama (based on 2009 census data ). Yet no one would infer from this that Romney did unusually well with African American voters.
Similarly, in 2004 the 15 poorest states all voted for George W. Bush, while 9 of the 11 wealthiest states voted for John Kerry. Yet we shouldnt infer that Democrats are the party of the wealthy; in fact, over 60% of voters nationwide with incomes over $200,000 voted for Bush.

gulible?
That’s not fair, since liberalism is faith based without logic and reason. They allow a standard of thinking-if you can call it that- to which they would never apply in their daily decision making.
CNN EXIT POLL 2012
College graduate: 53% Romney, 45% Obama
Making $50K -$ 100K: 52% Romney, 47% Obama
Making over $100K: 59% Romney, 40% Obama
Obama voters are neither smarter nor more productive than Romney voters. Obama voters are the moochers, period.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Yeah those Obamaphoners and illegals are just hugely smarter than the rest of us
Sheesh . . . what idiots in “JournOlism”
No.
If they were smarter, they wouldn’t be 0bama voters.
Just because they got a degree in “blahblahblah Studies” doesn’t make them smarter.
I am pretty sure the obamaphone lady has PHD.
The MSM and leftist say the same thing about the right with this thought:
Thats not fair, since God/Religion is faith based without logic and reason.
Both sides believe the other is stupid. Get over it.
yea course they;re smarted, they put our side on the defense, they know our side has no balls thus they push their radical agenda and rig elections and they’re much smarter about doing election fraud.
our side is smarter on the issues and common sense, our side knows and understands what is going on.
Their side the average Dem voter is abotu as smart a a goldfish with a mental disease
There is a difference between being educated and being intelligent just as there is a difference between intelligent and wise. Every single Obama voter is educated beyond their intelligence (educated morons), doesnt matter if its 5th grade or post grad. Beyond that there are no wise people voting for democrats.
I’d like to see the chart graph for the number of high school drop outs that voted for Obama.
MERRY CHRISTMAS...MY FIRST CARD OF THE YEAR..
Christmas
I love Christmas lights. They remind me of the people who voted for Obama.
They all hang together; half of them don’t work, and the ones that do,
aren’t all that bright.
For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not
understand, no explanation is possible.
No.
We spend way too much time navel gazing over what the media says about us and not enough time acting.
Who is really smarter? Those who wish for someone else to care for them because they're too incompetent to care for themselves, or those who are self accountable and self regulating?
It depends on the meaning of "educated", the same way Clinton debated the meaning of the word "Is."
