Catholics Steady On Gay Marriage [Catholics:WHITE 59% R to 40% O, LATINO 21% R To 75% O]

Catholics Steady On Gay Marriage Bishops also plan to maintain strategy on birth control

By Rachel Zoll November 12, 2012

BALTIMORE — A subdued U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops acknowledged Monday that voters rejected the stands the group took against gay marriage and birth control, but it gave no sign it would change its strategy ahead.

Same-sex marriage supporters made a four-state sweep of ballot measures last week, despite intensive advocacy by Roman Catholic bishops in favor of traditional marriage. Bishops also spoke out sharply against President Obama’s mandate that most employers provide health insurance that covers artificial contraception. Critics accused the bishops of going so far that they appeared to be backing Republican Mitt Romney.

The bishops insist their complaints were not partisan. Still, they now must face four more years with an administration many bishops characterized as a threat to the church.

“We’ve always maintained our openness to dialogue, and that will continue,” said Baltimore Archbishop William Lori, who leads the bishops’ committee on religious liberty. “As this evolves, as rule-making gets a little more clear, then our range of options will be clearer.”

(snip)

Mr. Obama won the overall Catholic vote, 50 percent to 48 percent, but Catholics split on ethnic lines. White Catholics supported Mr. Romney, 59 percent to 40 percent. Latino Catholics, however, went for Mr. Obama, 75 percent to 21 percent.

Last week, Maine, Maryland and Washington became the first states ever to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote. In Minnesota, voters rejected a proposal to place a ban on gay marriage in the state constitution, a step taken in past elections in 30 other states.

Latino Catholics supported Obama at a greater clip than Latinos as a whole. Something needs to happen over the next 4 years.

I don’t want to hear Catholics tell me they are Christians. Their views and votes aren’t Biblical, so therefore, I reject the fact that they are.

So much for that “at least the wetbacks are Catholics, and therefore Christians” meme.

If they no longer go by the Bible then they are no longer a religion!

Political correctness is simply an American way to lie publicly. There is a huge difference between white and Latino Catholics. While they share a common religious tradition, that is about as far as it goes. They don’t socialize, they don’t live in the same neighborhoods and are economically disparate. To consider that their political behavior to be predictable based on their stated religion is naive. Hispanic “Catholics” are often not really Catholic. While many identify themselves as Catholic, in actuality they are practicing some form of Protestant evangelism with a few Catholic symbols as bells and whistles. There is probably no major voting bloc in the US, that are less affected by their mystical and religious beliefs when it comes to voting.

I hope this helps put the rest the idea that Hispanics/Latinos are an ideologically sympathetic voting bloc to the Conservative side.

Pick up a good history of the Catholic Church (Warren Carroll is a good start) for the first 400 years to get a clear idea of the challenges the Church faced against Her enemies. The Church’s only “strategy” was to proclaim Jesus Christ and his truth. It got a lot of the first Christians killed. The same might have to happen again.

I’ve had dealings with latino “Catholics” in TX, CO and FL, legal and illegal. Very, very few are Catholics, or any sort of Christian at all. They go to churches for the social service benefits and charity. They rival blacks for abortion, out of wedlock births, dropout rates and crime. They may call themselves Catholic for identity reasons.

Really? I’m pretty sure that the Catholic Church is the original Christian church and we do follow the Holy Word of the Bible.

As I read the comments on this thread and others I see the same comment that many Hispanic Catholics aren’t “real” Catholics or are “cinos”, Catholics in name only, because they support Democrat politicians. Thus the poster doesn’t recognize them as “Catholic” at all.

But the salient question is whether the Catholic church recognizes these Hispanics as Catholic and the answer is apparently it does no matter what some individual posters say.

“Congressman: Greece-like ‘day of reckoning’ complete with ‘riots’ to hit America soon if country keeps going down same path”

http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/11/congressman-greece-like-day-of-reckoning-complete-with-riots-to-hit-america-soon-if-country-keeps-going-down-same-path/

However, before that statement...

There are those in the House who recognize that, while they are socially conservative, they view the government as a “daddy”. They like unions, handouts, and the wealth that the government offers. They won’t vote with us, and would turn some red states blue.

You were treated reprehensibly because you voiced your views. I agreed with you.
