Scandal Probe Ensnares Commander of U.S., NATO Troops in Afghanistan
The Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, November 13, 2012 | Craig Whitlock

ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT — The FBI probe into the sex scandal that led to the resignation of CIA director David Petraeus has expanded to ensnare Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced early Tuesday.

According to a senior U.S. defense official, the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 pages of “potentially inappropriate” emails between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman whose close friendship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall. Allen, a Marine, succeeded Petraeus as the top allied commander in Afghanistan in July 2011.

The FBI first notified the Pentagon of its investigation into Allen’s communications with Kelley on Sunday evening, according to the senior defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details of the ongoing case.

In response, Pentagon chief Leon E. Panetta referred the investigation to the Defense Department’s Inspector General for further review, according to a statement released by Panetta early Tuesday as he was traveling to Australia.

The latest development in the unfolding scandal has shaken President Obama’s national-security staff and upended his carefully chosen plans for his military and intelligence team in his second term.

It also further calls into question the personal behavior of two of the U.S. military’s highest-ranking and most respected figures, who apparently ignored concerns about the highly sensitive nature of their jobs as they embraced personal relationships with younger women who were not their wives.

SNIP

In his statement, Panetta said Allen would remain as commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan for now, “while the matter is under investigation and before the facts are determined.”

Jill Kelley

What are the chances this woman could take down the present and former commander in charge of our Afghanistan forces, one being the Director of the CIA?

Some are referring to her as a whistle-blower.

I’m thinking more along the lines of sniper...

the news could spoil the dozen or so faux fictional spy books that will start coming out next year.

This is damn near too much action for a new James Bond book, could see Bond saying "The heck with the Yanks and their mess, I'm out of here".

“If I was any of these folks I would be running to the GOP controlled committee and requesting witness protection until I could testify and then spill the beans. These folks have to realize that their lives are in serious jeopardy, given that the entire administration could come tumbling down. Yes, the MSM will do what it can to stonewall, but if Petraeus or someone else testifies that Obama pulled rank in order to leave the Americans in Benghazi stranded, the MSM will be forced to report those revelations.”

The Republicans in congress have no power to grant protection.

That can only come AG Holder in cases like this.

Can you imagine, if you were involved in this mess, and you went to Holder to ask for witness protection? If you did, you might not make it home again.

The good news is the FBI agent didn’t send a picture of him without a shirt to Petraeus or the Marine General.

Nobody’s brought this up but I do wonder if John Roberts might have been blackmailed into ruling Obamacare as constitutional. No facts to base this on but it makes one wonder given this administration’s modi operandi.

So many men are susceptible to the honey pot (except me - I have all I need at home, honest!) it just makes me wonder. Any rumors about Roberts? Anyone? ;-)

A comment I posted on another thread:

You can ask Generals Werner von Fritsch & Werner von Blomberg about how this goes.

At least so far, 0bama and his goons have not pulled a Marshal Tukachevsky on our military leadership.

But now that the election is over, the military is being purged. The men will be replaced with more of the Dempsey-types. Kind of a cross between Dmitri Pavlov and Wilhelm Keitel.

That makes me happy to know there are still honorable decent men out there. Thanks for sharing this story.

As a woman it makes me ill, to know what some women will do. It is either for job position or husband hunting, not sure if the later is even necessary today, but there it is.

My daughter said after she moved to another dept. (which she wanted), that her new boss was not friendly and would not make eye contact if seen in the hall. She figured it was so he could never be compromised. It is just to dangerous for men to even talk to women in the workplace, and now even to hold little girls. That is very sad.

There is one common female to both generals and her name is Jill Kelly.

Kelly reported threatening emails from Broadwell, which lead to the affair
between Betrayus and Broadwell

Kelly was the recipient of thousands of emails from General Allen, who
May now lose his job.

No offense but u r wrong.

BTW, skipping to your 2nd paragraph onward, you make great points concerning the consequences of immorality. Not sure about the intent of your 1st paragraph.

My question concerns the direct connection (or impact) and not as much the lesser, indirect effect of the adultery in question. For example, I’m doubtful the attack on the compound took place because Patraeus was having adulterous sex under the desk. If you’re saying otherwise, I’m interested.

How could two busy generals write 10’s of thousands of emails?????? That just does NOT compute.

This whole thing fails the smell test. The more I learn about Jill Kelley, the more I think SPY.
