Boehner’s Blunder (If you can't beat 'em, join 'em)
national review ^ | 11/14/12 | m tanner

Well, that didn’t take long.

They hadn’t even finished counting the ballots in Florida when House speaker John Boehner indicated that Republicans were preparing to surrender on issues ranging from taxes to health-care reform.

With regard to taxes, Boehner signaled that he was once again open to a “grand bargain” to avoid the looming fiscal cliff. While he kept an increase in tax rates off the table for now, Boehner said that he was open to “additional revenue” as part of a deal. Such additional revenue could, of course, take many forms, such as closing loopholes, raising fees, or counting on increased economic growth. But by preemptively conceding on revenue, Speaker Boehner takes the focus off the need to cut spending.

Advertisement Speaker Boehner correctly noted that everyone agrees we can’t keep spending more than we take in. But that implies that the problem is simply the difference between what comes in and what goes out. It’s not.

The Congressional Budget Office projects that, under current policy, federal spending will reach 46 percent of GDP by mid-century — even if we never add another new government program. True, a substantial portion of that spending will be interest on the federal debt. Theoretically, therefore, if taxes were increased enough to cover spending and close the deficit, adding no additional debt, we’d have far lower interest payments, meaning that total levels of government spending would be lower in the future. Lower, but not that low: Even if one

No one from an Obama state should be in a GOP leadership post.

It’s up to us. We’re going to have to build the Tea Party into an actual, viable opposition party. The GOP has already thrown us under the bus.

Americans must long remember and punish those Vichy Republicans so willing to collaborate with the anti-American agenda of the Obama Regime.

I been saying since he became House speaker and even before that, he isnt half the fighter that Pelosi is.

Recall Pelosi under GWB in 2006 as new speaker, she fought like hell to bring down Republicans.

Bohner is terrified and very weak. And he has always been weak.

If this was just a trick to fool clueless independents (into thinking Rs are working with dems to get things done) then I wouldnt mind, but I think he means it.

We will soon find out whether the influx of Tea Party House members has had any real impact on the decision making of the GOP House caucus. These folks need to stand up and be counted. If they cannot oust Boehner because they are outweighed by the RINO’s, they can at least draw a line in the sand and tell Boehner publicly that they will not back any deal with Obama that does not (a) cut spending and (b) includes any tax increase. The job of the Tea Party caucus over the next two years has to be stiffening the spine of the GOP.

Yes he does mean it. Yes he has to go.

Meanwhile, Gov Scott here in Florida announced today he is seeking a compromise with the G on Obamacare regarding Medicaid which he said he would not do prior to the election. Well, if Scott thinks this is going to save him in this state, forget it....he is toast in 2014.

Rubio is now pushing his amnesty program. Well, goodbye Mr. Chips there to because none of these guys who compromised one bit are getting my vote nor any of the real conservative GOPers. Won’t make a difference in their getting the party nominations BUT the difference in an open election will be severe for them. Frankly, I’d rather have a dem in and ruin GOP lite foreever than cave in to the RINOs.

My word for them all, good bye and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

This is why the republicans conspired with the democrats to take out Tom Delay. He wasn’t afraid of the democrats and he wiped the floor with them.

Conservatives don’t cry like babies.

This guy was a disgusting disgrace from the get go.

He needs to be flushed from his speaker’s slot and the Tea Party People and conservative reps in the House had better do it if they want my support in future COngressional elections.

RE :”Yes he does mean it. Yes he has to go.”

Someone defending him (mad at my comments the other day) came up with point that is probably true. No one in the House wants Bohners job.

That tells you how dis-functional the R party is, how scared they are now and how they squandered the 2010 election

We need that caliber of people in power to represent us.
