(Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday pushed for his proposal to have the wealthy pay more in taxes as a way to tame the federal deficit, taking a hard line in his opening bid before he begins fiscal talks with U.S. lawmakers later in the week.

"We should not hold the middle class hostage while we debate tax cuts for the wealthy," Obama said in his first press conference since winning re-election on November 6.

Why couldn’t he use the words ‘Spending Cut’, once. I’m calling for all U.S. Senators as well as U.S. Congressman to take a pay cut. Show the rest of us you’re willing to take some of the loss of revenue and suck up your own fat gut.

Big Ears has got to know this targets proprietors of small businesses — or does he? Is he as isolated from this as he is from the trip-ups in Obamacare?

The republicans should call his bluff on this. Make the tax cuts under $250 thousand PERMANANT and kick the can on over $250. This would steal his soundbite and still leave it open on the top earners.

Then the middle class will be considered the rich, because no one is going to be allowed to become richer etc... IDIOTS.

This, minimum wage and global warming are the scam government schemes to plunder us and redistribute to themselves the proceeds, BOehner, Soros and all the others on specious hypocritical arguments making a mockery of science in the name of science.

Oh, and, lest we forget, after they take all that money, destroy our 401ks and rich institutions and make business so risky, unPC and dangerous to grow, where will they find money aside as whores exiled to Saddam’s whore houses in Babylonia? If these fuglies are so lucky to make it there, that is...

Wow, it looks like the country is indeed run by overgrown teenagers.

Lenin said much the same thing - with results which are well documented by history.

But, then, Obama knows that.

Awwww. What a shame that he only has the power to sign or reject bills. He can’t draft them now that he’s out of the Congress, and never could draft a tax bill since he never served in the House.

If we do nothing, all the taxes will go up on January 1st. Let them. The Bush Tax Cuts didn’t improve the economy anyway, dontcha know! Let’s get rid of them all. And anything else that expires at the end of the year, including unemployment benefits and the dairy compact, the payroll tax cut, the student loan interest rate cut, etc.

Then the House can draft one bill, send it to the senate and nothing else. They can amend and pass it if they wish and then go to conference.

None of this Reid and Boehner and Obama all getting together to decide what will happen. REGULAR LEGISLATIVE ORDER AND THE BALANCE OF POWERS (I.E. KEEPING THE EXECUTIVE OUT OF LEGISLATION UNTIL THE SAME BILL IS PASSED BY BOTH BODIES) WILL GET US BACK ON TRACK (AND OFF THE ROAD TO TYRANNY).

Same old communist sh1t? He never learns, does he? Kill off small business and opportunities for people to improve their circumstances and get ahead, increase unemployment and dependence on government handouts. Great for him, crappy for us (and especially harmful to people just trying to get a start on life). Now then, if he had any real concern for us people out here, he’d be pushing congress to lower taxes. A lot. Instead, we’ll probably have to listen to another 4 years of this childish Marxist. campaign-style rhetoric, as he continues to push America and our economy into the sewer. Store up some food, folks. About four years worth if you can Its time.

Let the clinton tax rates come back into being and let the depression begin! He wants it... break it off in his well worn backside.

The reason we are still dealing with this issue is that Romney never made the case, preferring to express a general attitude toward tax policy as opposed to specific conservative principles explaining the position.

Imagine what might have happened if, even once, Mitt Romney had said to Obama in one of the debates:

"Mr. President - you are not telling the truth, and you know it. You talk about increasing taxes on "the wealthiest Americans" But income is not the same thing as wealth. There are many wealthy people - including many of your fundraisers - who are fabulously wealthy but have almost no earned income. There are also many people who have relatively large incomes. but who are not wealthy. These are people - small business owners and entrepreneurs - who already pay most of the taxes in America, but they are the ones you now propose to punish even more for their success."

"And it's not just millionaires and billionaires you seek to hit - it's people making as little as $200,000 a year. Let me do the math for you: $200,000 is a heck of a lot less than a million, and it doesn't go as far as it used to when you live on one of the coasts and have a family to care for."

"And you wonder why your policies have failed to create enough jobs to keep up with population growth? You know: I've heard you make the claim that small business people are only 3% of those making enough to be hit by you new tax proposal. But that's also a lie. That figure was ginned up by a left-wing think tank in Washington. Want to know how, America? Simple. They counted everyone who had income reported on a 1099 form as being a (quote) small business. Did you ever sell an item or two on EBay or Craig's List? Well, congratulations: Barack Obama thinks you're a "small business" now.

"The truth is that more than 20% of income earners who would get socked by the new Obama taxes really are small businesses, and they account for more than 70% of all the new jobs in America. That's not a recipe for growth, it's a recipe for economic depression. The truth is that if you taxed away all the earned income - 100% of it - from every person in America who made over $250,000 and up, it would run the Federal government for about three months. And then where would Washington get the money from? And what shape would our economy be in?"

"That is why Barack Obama's plan is not about economic growth, it is about using the great and eternal sin of envy to expand his party's political power. If we go down that road, America and the world will be poorer for it. And so will your family."

Absolutely agree with you. Obama often speaks of tax rates during the Clinton years and how successful the country was...here’s his chance to walk the talk.

You are never going to “tax the rich”, it just won’t happen.
They have the ability to mask their wealth such that you can’t touch it.

He probably DOES know this, and as a good commie, he knows that the very wealthy tend to be very supportive of communism, because it creates a bigger difference in lifestyle between the wealthy and the “peasants”.
