Time to Let the Country Crash?
American Thinker ^ | 11/14/12 | Ebben Raves

"Let it crash!" "Give them what they want and they'll see what happens!" "Surely, once the left's programs are implemented and the economy crashes, people will come to their senses."

Since the election, many on the right have echoed this meme. They are convinced that widespread poverty and lack of opportunity will bring a resurgence of the America many of them knew growing up. Grandma and Grandpa's America.

Perhaps these people forget that Roosevelt was re-elected three times during a depression that he helped prolong -- a depression that featured soup lines and starvation in a population that actually wanted to work for a living and went on relief only as a last resort, and then with a sense of shame.

Thanks to food stamps, EBT cards, and other entitlements, Barack Obama actually had an easier time. He just had to threaten that the evil rich would take away flat-screens and "crazy money" to get enough votes. Imagine if people were really hungry.

Roosevelt and the Great Depression is only a mild example of what happens during severe economic stress. Think about Germany during the Weimar Republic hyperinflation. What did that give the world? Look at Argentina, at one time in the twentieth century more prosperous than the United States. Cristina Fernandez easily won re-election after she nationalized retirement accounts. Do you really think that no one views your 401(k) as unfair? What could be fairer than making sure it is kept protected from the greedy Wall Street bankers? Look at what is happening in Greece, with a quazi-Nazi party gaining ground. Look at France, who elected a socialist government to solve problems caused by socialism.

I think the American voter agrees with that.

Otherwise the Obamunist wouldn’t have been re-elected.

I had a dream last night that John Boehner held a press conference and announced that “We in the GOP do not wish to be obstructionists in any way. Therefore we are giving President Obama his $1.6 trillion tax increase, and anything else he needs to turn the economy around”.

The horrified underwear-soiling reaction of Obama and his minions to “oh, shiite, we OWN it now!” was quite satisfying I must say.

What the h*** happened to conservatives?

All I have been hearing from conservatives these last four years is “let it crash”.

Well that got us four more years of Obama.

COMPETE with Obama. Out-build, and out-perform Obama.

Be a better champion for America.

Build more HERE. Be for trade surpluses, and for outperforming our rivals.

Period.

This isn’t the 1930’s. And there is no Herbert Hoover to kick around, any more. Collapse on the watch of this imperial Leftist would have a different result.

Still waiting for that perfect conservative?

This reminds me of the news story featured on Drudge where a gentleman trying to keep fire from burning down his house was tasered by the local police. No crime committed. Just that he was putting himself in jeopardy trying to protect his properly. "Let it go, that's what insurance is for."

Unfortunately, we don't have any insurance if our national house burns to the ground. The insurance companies would be just as affected as the rest of us. So letting it burn is, to me, not an option.

Why would someone worry about a job when they can get free housing, food, unemployment, disability, welfare, phones, healthcare, subsidized transportation, tuition, etc.? They deserve it from the rich.

umm that’s not a dream. They really are going to give in, starting with amnesty.

It is nice to have a guy on our side who actually gets what we're fighting for. We do not give in to evil for moral reasons either . . . because it is evil and deserves to be fought with any and all means available.

Even if you can't save everyone.

Even if you can't even save yourself.

Has anyone on this forum under age 30 even heard of Corrie Ten Boom, much less be able to tell us why she is one of the most important historical figures of the last century?

I rest my case.

Did you see the Greeks burning down buildings last night? That is the Gimme culture writ large. America will crash and burn, too. With $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, thanks to vote-buying politicians, there is no other outcome.

I couldn't agree more with the writer's point - isolate and polarize. There are so many targets.

Problem is, the GOP will not do it - it has a stake in the system as it is currently run.

On its present course, the country is likely to crash with or without our help. I see no reason why Republicans should help hasten the end. It may take generations to recover after the SHTF.

They will always find someone to blame. Many people STILL blame Bush to this day so they’ll keep milking that line. But even when that line wears off, don’t underestimate their creativity to shift the blame to something else.

I hope there will not be a single GOP vote for anything Obama wants. If it’s so good for the country, let them own it.

You do want to win, right?

Salient question for the GOP.

One thing about leftists is that they NEVER take responsibility for their failures,

that’s because, inherently, liberalism is about making others pay for your consequences.
