A Great Neck man was shot dead inside of his Brooklyn boutique last night — and cops matched the ballistics to a pair of murders this summer that sources believe were based on numbers in the business address, sources said.

Vahidipour Rahmatollah, 78, was pronounced dead after cops discovered him in the back of She She Boutique on Flatbush Avenue after being shot in the head three times with a .22-caliber gun, as well as once in the torso, sources said.

Solution: Store owners need to arm themselves. Oh! I forgot, hand guns are illegal in NY.

The cops are looking into a Numerology connection! The addresses are 1877, 7718, and 836. They see a connection with the numbers 1, 7, and 8? They've been watching too many TV cop shows.

They would do better looking through a list of upstart commies in the Democrat Party. The ones who call themselves anarchists, who wear black and masks during demonstrations, and go about breaking windows of shop owners.

The common link here is assassinating small entrepreneurs. I smell commie Obama supporters.

Isaiah 5:13-14
New International Version (NIV)

13 Therefore my people will go into exile
for lack of understanding;
those of high rank will die of hunger
and the common people will be parched with thirst.
14 Therefore Death expands its jaws,
opening wide its mouth;
into it will descend their nobles and masses
with all their brawlers and revelers.

Slightly off topic, but...

This sort of takes the air out of the argument that a .22 calibre firearm is a useless self defense choice.

More people are killed with a .22 than any other round.

Mostly because there are more .22s out there than anything else, and partly because its misunderestimated as a toy.

That being said, for a self defense round I want something that stops the attack RIGHT NOW, not something that my assailant will die of after he's broken my body into tiny bloody bits.

"The cops are looking into a Numerology connection! The addresses are 1877, 7718, and 836. They see a connection with the numbers 1, 7, and 8? They've been watching too many TV cop shows."

If that's all they got, then too much TV and too little knowledge of elementary numbers, math and probabilities. Consider only the house numbers:

 For a all possible 4-digit numbers/addresses (10,000 of them)
  1/10th will begin with 1 = 1,000
  1/10th will begin with 7 = 1,000
  1/10th will begin with 8 = 1,000	total	= 3,000
    ...and of the remaining 7,000
  1/10th will have 1 as a 2nd digit = 700
  1/10th will have 7 as a 2nd digit = 700
  1/10th will have 8 as a 2nd digit = 700 total	= 2,100
    ...and of the remaining 4,900
  1/10th will have 1 as a 3nd digit	= 490
  1/10th will have 1 as a 3nd digit = 490
  1/10th will have 1 as a 3nd digit = 490 total	= 1,470
    ...and of the remaining 3,430
  1/10th will have 1 as a 4nd digit = 343
  1/10th will have 1 as a 4nd digit = 343
  1/10th will have 1 as a 4nd digit = 343 total	= 1,029

 That means of all 10,000 possible 4 digit numbers 7,599 (76%) will contain a 1,7 or 8!
In terms of probabilities, how can three 76% favorites in a row be the basis of a theory of anything, let alone criminal activity? Sherlock Holmes... I think not!

This sort of takes the air out of the argument that a .22 calibre firearm is a useless self defense choice.

There's been many posts on FR over the years about people (usually women) successfully defending themselves with a small caliber gun. In some cases the attacker died, usually after running away bleeding.

The victim in this case was shot three times in the head, but for self defense I think most bad guys will retreat when any type of gun is fired by the intended victim.

If it's the numbers, then 836 doesn't fit.

Hmmm, just another of his happy little coinky dinks?!?

This sort of takes the air out of the argument that a .22 calibre firearm is a useless self defense choice.

A .22 caliber bullet has rather puny terminal ballistics and requires precise shot placement for effective results. Kill shots are to the eve socket, directly through the ear canal, or you might get lucky and sever a carotid artery if you try for the windpipe/larynx. These shots require that you be in close contact with your antagonist, hardly a proper placement for self defense.

CIA spooks and Mafia hit men like .22 firearms (I am told...) because they are small, light, easy to conceal, and relatively quiet. Their sound signature may be further reduced by fitting a small suppressor but be advised you are now entering Class III territory and need sanctions from BATFE before proceeding legally.

If your goal is to "get out'a Dodge" then a shot or two to the kneecap might slow your antagonist down or it might simply piss him off. Again, precise shot placement would be required to hit a small target like a kneecap on a moving man.

Two rounds, center of mass is a lot easier with a caliber beginning with a .4x (.40, .44, .45ACP, &c.) Self defense is far easier when you can maintain a reasonable stand off distance with your antagonist. .22 caliber rimfire weapons do not fit into this scenario. They are more fitted to targeted assassinations by Pros.

GtG

This sort of takes the air out of the argument that a .22 calibre firearm is a useless self defense choice.

Well, this .22 wasn't used defensively, it was a hit.

A small caliber, especially .22, is often used for murders like that for several reasons.

A .22 is cheap, easy to get, easy to dispose of, common, and the bullet will usually deform so much that ballistics are useless.

I remember a story from many years ago in Seattle that someone was lured into a park and shot point blank in the back of the head. It turned out to be a glancing shot to the skull and didn't penetrate, but just knocked him out for 20 minutes. In the meantime the shooter took off thinking he had killed his acquaintance only to find the cops on his doorstep waiting for him.

The victim had awakened and called the cops before the shooter got home.

All that being said, I have a little chromed .22LR auto that slips quite nicely into my front pocket.

There was more to it with the first two, as I read in the neighborhood paper. And the first two happened about a mile or so apart while the last was a few miles away.
