Board misses deadline in Allen West recount Challenger Murphy declares victory
Washington Times ^ | Sunday, November 18, 2012 | Stephen Dinan

Election officials in Florida missed a noon deadline Sunday for their partial recount in Rep. Allen West’s race, which under state law means the results stand as they are — and with Mr. West trailing by more than half a percentage point.

Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy’s campaign declared victory Sunday afternoon.

Missing the deadline is the latest fumble for St. Lucie County election officials, and it likely to add ammunition to Mr. West’s claims that the election count has been botched from the beginning.

His accusations gained steam Friday when officials said they’d found a box with hundreds of early voting ballots that had never been counted in the first place.

-snip-

On Sunday, they failed to finish by the noon Sunday deadline, and under Florida law the results as they stood before the recount are now forwarded to the state for a final certification on Tuesday.

The law does allow Mr. West to contest the results once they are certified.

And there is an emergency exception to the noon deadline that Mr. West could argue gives the St. Lucie board more time to complete its count.

They can count them all in one evening, but not 3 days in a recount.

Finest representation Saudi oil money can buy.

His accusations gained steam Friday when officials said they’d found a box with hundreds of early voting ballots that had never been counted in the first place.

Wonder how many other boxes of 'early votes' disappeared around this country? All those stories of 'massive turnout', and yet vote totals don't seem to account for it...

really wish we had solid info....I can’t find anywhere IF they counted that bad “card” and if West will now be requesting a total recount at his expense...I hope he does...we’ll support him, won’t we?

If this happened to a black community they would be rioting and burning the city down. There is a lesson here.

Can’t see why the recount would take so long? The most disruptive road block to a timely count is in the Hospital. (Gertrude)

I voted around 1 pm and there were only about 5 people voting. No one had to wait in line.

Why can’t they buy those inexpensive metal closets that lock? That way the boxes of votes can be kept safely away from being lost and mixed up with other things? Is it too much to have some place where ballots will be kept away from everything else. They seem to be very sloppy with out votes. What good is it to go out and vote when your ballot may be thrown out in the trash?

You too can help put pressure on Tea Party reps in congress to nominate Allen West as Speaker of the House.

*The speaker does not have to be an elected member of the house.
*The majority “can” control the vote for speaker, but that doesn’t mean the speaker is guaranteed to be a republican. If the TP caucus would stick together on this they could force the RINOs to support West or chance giving the seat back to Pelosi.
* It’s time to stand up!

There are numerous ways to contact Tea Party Caucus members. Are you creative enough to find one? Here's help

Put pressure on Tea Party representatives?

It appears they have already have been co-opted (as Trent Lott said), since not one of them had the guts to "second" Louie Gohmert's nominatioin of Newt Gingrich for Speaker.
