Attacker stabs and injures security guard; warning shots fired; shooter is in police custody.
An Israeli man stabbed a security guard outside the US embassy in Tel Aviv late Tuesday morning, lightly injuring him.
Security guards fired warning shots at the shooter, who was subsequently arrested. Paramedics were on the scene.
Police were interrogating the shooter, a 41-year-old Jewish man from Bat Yam, police told Israel Radio.
"A Mazda car stopped next to the U.S. embassy and a man got out carrying a red bag and a pitchfork," said David Cohen, 48, who told Reuters he witnessed the incident while jogging along Tel Aviv's Mediterranean promenade.
"He began to run toward the security guards. They saw him, took their guns out and told him to get down on the ground," Cohen said.
"He continued running and then they fired in the air and ordered him agains to lie down. He continued to advance. They jumped on him and took his bag away."
The US embassy said in a statement that there was an incident but that "the situation is under control."
Israel Radio had initially reported, incorrectly, that the attacker opened fire.

Proper response should have been:
He continued running and then they fired so many rounds into the man that he was pronounced dead at the scene".
It was my experience that the local police were responsible for securing the outer perimeter, and that the Marine Security Guards were responsiblle for the embassy buildings inside the wire.

Like so many on FR, I find this confusing, especially after the debacle in Benghazi. "Warning shots" should have left him looking like Bonnie and Clyde. A few dozen bullets between the eyes would convey the clearest warning imaginable.

Do not take photos of the US Consulate in Jerusalem, you will be forced to erase any photos of it by Israeli security personnel.

Say what? The “shooter” “stabbed” the guard and when security ordered him down, they only took away a “bag”???

I am confused on several points:
Was it a semi-automatic pitchfork, or a single-stab model he was shooting?
Was the “red bag” red, as in color; or “red”, as in Communist?
When “they took his bag away.” does that mean they neutralized him, or that they neutered him?
What happened to the Glock-47 Pitchfork?
