Obama Brings In Grassroots Team To Cut Deal On Fiscal Cliff President calls on campaign team to spread the word about looming deadline when tax rises and spending cuts will kick in

22 November Obama's call came after no progress was made between Republicans and Democrats in Congress over Thanksgiving.
Barack Obama has enlisted the help of his formidable grassroots army of volunteers in the battle with Republican members of Congress over the fiscal cliff, the January 1 deadline for a deal on tax and spending.
The Obama for America campaign team, which has remained intact post-election, sent out a message to supporters saying that though there is a lot of stake, with their help a deal is possible.
It comes after reports of no progress by the Republican and Democratic teams left behind in Congress over the Thanksgiving holiday period to start work on a compromise package.
The White House move suggests it has learned the lesson about the impact of grassroots opinion from the battle over healthcare reform. At that time, Democrats failed to match Republican and Tea Party groups who piled the pressure on Congress through the mail, in town hall meetings and in protests on Capitol Hill.
The Obama campaign team, in an email to its extensive network of supporters, said: "Right now, president Obama is working with leaders of both parties in Washington to reduce the deficit in a balanced way so we can lay the foundation for long-term middle-class job growth and prevent your taxes from going up."
It calls on them to spread the word about Obama's position to friends, families and neighbours. It said he wanted a balanced budget that will extend tax cuts for 98% of the population, eliminate tax cuts for the wealthiest and cut spending by $3tn.

No progress is possible. Trying to make a deal with the ideologues in the White Hut and on the Senate floor is like trying to get a permnent truce or even a cease-fire lasting more than a few days with Hamas. That only lasts long enough to obtain more ammunition, then they are in there firing away again.
OK, over the cliff it is. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid don’t have much room to negotiate, and the other side seems adamant.
Even if you can’t swim, there is one brief, shining moment of glory.
Hopefully I’m wrong but, looking at the unique circumstances the United States is facing right now, coupled with the new forces that have come into play, I don’t see how this ends in any way that isn’t the Second American Civil War.
I wanna see how they intend on feeding the entitlement monster once it’s food supply dries up....

I agree. And I am a well-educated person, not some conspiracy theorist or catastrophe hunter. We are so thoroughly divided as a nation, thanks in part to Obama, that we can hardly end up otherwise. Of course, economic calamity might change the equation, but even then, there would be riots in the streets.
He’s destroyed the USA economy and millions of our jobs. Now, he wants to make sure we can NEVER recover.

He can make any deal he wants and report it tomorrow, and almost no one will know because it is the holiday weekend.
So. I wonder how much it will cost the taxpayers in bribes to Congresscritters (a la ZeroCare) to get us a "deal" (AKA Srew Job)?
there will be a deal ,but it will be like the other deals Obama made with the GOP , he takes what he wants and trashes the rest . The old saying comes to mind , fool me once , the GOP are on fool me 22 times and D’oh
