Could you pass a US citizenship test? [Give it a try.]
CS Monitor ^ | Saturday, November 24, 2012

In order to become a US citizen, immigrants must pass the Naturalization Test. American citizenship bestows the right to vote, improves the likelihood of family members living in other countries to come and live in the US, gives eligibility for federal jobs, and can be a way to demonstrate loyalty to the US. Applicants must get 6 answers out of 10 in an oral exam to pass the test. According to US Citizenship and Immigration services, 92 percent of applicants pass this test.

You must get 58 or more of these test questions correct in order to pass.

I scored 98%. I would like to point out that many of the questions could be answered differently than the choices given. I can smell the political correctness in it.

All 96 correct here.

A few years ago at just about this time of year, a gaggle of teen girls were at the shopping mall, asking people to answer ten questions that had been pulled from this test (part of some school project, no doubt). Apparently I was the first person they'd encountered that answered all ten correctly.

How very depressing.

that page loads way too slow to do all 96

8 out of 8 before I quit, and that took 10 minutes to load

94 of 96, and I was just flat-out careless on one of the two I missed...calculated me at 98%.

I had to pass this test in my eighth grade government class to earn an A. I don’t think I missed a single question.

“You answered 93 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 97%.”

This test should be mandatory for any government official. Only, require 85% or better. Come on obummer, release the score of your citizenship test results.

96 correct, 0 wrong. 96 out of 96 questions for a total score of 100%

This was a very easy test.

If only 58 questions answered correctly makes a person a US citizen, there is no wonder it means nothing to become a citizen now. It would be easy to guess your way to US citizenship.

I can smell the political correctness in it.

Got a whiff of that, as well. You should have to answer 80 of these relatively simple questions correctly to pass...

The choices for 91 and 92 are misleading. For example, an amendment does not necessarily add to the Constitution, as in striking down, i.e., removing prohibition. Of course, I knew what they wanted. I forget question 92.
I waded through to the end waiting for the questions to get tougher, but they didn’t. Every FReeper would get at least 90 correct. I missed one because (out of pure boredom) I did not read the choice of answers carefully; the correct answer was “all of these.”
Boy, I hate those sites that make you click forever.
Save yourself some time, have a few early morning beers, and forget this exercise, unless you want to see how utterly ignorant one can be and still pass the test.

Definitely. I was surprised to see the phrase "American Indians" used.

My grandmother emigrated from Nova Scotia, like my grandfather, and BOTH of them had to prove THEY knew English

You answered 96 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 100%.

Nailed it.

That was what tripped me up on one of the two that I missed...

Both of us took the test and scored over 90 correct. My wife originally took her citizenship test in the 1980s and, had to take it in English as well as interview in English. She believes this test is easier but says that may be because she follows the news and politics.

If you’re testing for citizenship, the test must be in the language of the land. However, I can’t criticize anyone who seeks citizenship with sincere intent.
