Could you pass a US citizenship test? [Give it a try.]
CS Monitor ^ | Saturday, November 24, 2012

In order to become a US citizen, immigrants must pass the Naturalization Test. American citizenship bestows the right to vote, improves the likelihood of family members living in other countries to come and live in the US, gives eligibility for federal jobs, and can be a way to demonstrate loyalty to the US. Applicants must get 6 answers out of 10 in an oral exam to pass the test. According to US Citizenship and Immigration services, 92 percent of applicants pass this test.

You must get 58 or more of these test questions correct in order to pass.

Right on!
My mother took this test in 1954 after surviving Nazi-occupied France...
She aced it, too!

There are folks who were born here and are citizens but could not pass this test. Sad but true I'm sure.

Oh...BTW...

95
Correct
1
Wrong
You answered 95 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 99%.

Missed the Constitution date by 1 year.

And what is with #79 saying that the constitution "grants" some powers to the states??

Um, no. #79 states:
Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?

Sliiiightly different.

As it stands, is it legal or not for Communists to hold public office in the United States?

I believe it's "legal", as the Communist party is legal, but who would vote for a Communist?

Oh nevermind.........

58 right? Not true. How about 5. I helped a fellow pass his test last Spring. He was asked 5 question — 2 on geography (i.e. both Oceans) — who is the present Pres and VP and one other. Also, demonstrate a sentence in written Eglish and converse in English. He was Polish and his tester was also Polish. 15 minutes at the most.

But, I will say he was prepared as we studied for a month and he was bright — I never had to bring out a chalk board.

“. . .You expect to be able to speak in a language that is NOT the standard (and official) language of the US and you are pissed???? Go over to DU thanks you fit better there”

Maybe I didn’t explain myself

I am expected to speak a language th is othe than English (which NEEDS, by the way, to be declared official, but has ont been)

My comment was sarcastic. I get pissed when the “Americans” around me don’t stand up for their language, but apologize (white guilt/ American guilt).

I assure you, I do not have any business at DU, but thanks for being vigilant.

IMHO, requiring only 58 correct answers sets a very low bar.

Most elementary students should be able to pass it.

The correct answer to question #19 is “1) None of these answers”.

The US does not have a capitalist economic system.

Of course NO ONE should be allowed to be a citizen without knowing who Susan B. Anthony was. I think she wrote the Constitution didn’t she?

You are probably confusing her with Mark Anthony, who actually wrote our constitution, Susan was just one of his HOs.

Two, repeat two pages to open per question, one per question and one per answer?

I'm glad I read your reply before clicking on the link to take the test. I won't bother now.

Could the CSM have made this more time consuming and frustrating?

92 of 96, some of the questions were silly but none the less it does open the mind to some core attributes. To me there are some questions that if you fail them you should fail the whole test as they are fundamental to the nature and function of this country
