The Hill has an interesting story reporting on Republican governors refusing to set up state exchanges under Obamacare — which could save the states money since they are on the hook for costs in excess of federal grants. That means the feds will have to do it on a state-by-state basis, a daunting task even for this highly bureaucratic administration. Plus, it is perfectly legal under the law to engage in such passive resistance.
Some liberals say that approach isn’t conservative because, in effect, it allows the feds to run state health care. (As if they care!) I’m not buying. In case anyone hasn’t noticed, HHS already does run health care nationally about issues important to the Obama political coalition — as in free-birth-control rule, with more of the same no doubt coming soon. Indeed, Obamacare was designed to allow the technocracy to create entitlements nationally on the dimes of the private sector, while guaranteeing the employment of ever more technocrats.
After an appalling and incoherent Supreme Court ruling and the recent election, it does seem now that utter legal non cooperation is the only way remaining to impede the Leviathan. Here’s another suggestion: Senate Republicans should filibuster confirmation of the soon-to-be-nominated members of the Independent Payment Advisory Board. No board, no IPAB autocracy. Of course, the president might then make a non-recess recess appointment, but that opens any action taken by IPAB to legal attack.
So, stalwart Obamacare opponents, time for some good old fashioned passive resistance. Go limp. For those on the political left who object to such blatant obstructionism, I have two words for you: sanctuary cities.

AFAIK, AARP is not part of any insurance company.
I have always said that the grand design of Obamacare was to drive private insurance companies from the marketplace. I agree on the design of PPACA as being a step towards single-payor, but for different reasons.
The first step in PPACA was to increase the loss ratios for private insurance companies by 20%. To make up for a drop in revenue combined with a requirement for an increase in required coverage meant that insurers had to substantially increase their rates. This will spiral even further upward as the remaining provisions of the law go into effect over the next 13 months.
Pelosi and Reid are both on record as saying that insurers who increase their rates beyond a certain percentage will not be allowed on the exchanges. As insurers must be on an exchange to offer coverage to new enrollees, this means that insurers will begin leaving the marketplace as their costs outstrip their ability to generate revenue to cover those increased costs. At some point, probably long before the first decade is up, the government will be “forced” to step in, as the impending national “healthcare crisis” requires them to implement “an immediate solution”: socialized medicine. Yaaaay, we’re saved.

Why would we have to cooperate with Obamacare? The law itself says it isn’t required.
“No individual, company, business, nonprofit entity, or health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage shall be required to participate in any Federal health insurance program created under this Act (or any amendments made by this Act), or in any Federal health insurance program expanded by this Act (or any such amendment), and there shall be no penalty or fine imposed upon any such issuer for choosing not to participate in such programs.” (1)

I think it was designed to fail and I think Obama's admitted as much in the past. Single-payer was always the goal and he's always seen ACA as a means to that end. ACA will be so miserable people will beg for single-payer and with how things are, Republicans will be blamed for ACA since the electorate has been propagandized for years not that it was a "conservative" plan.
Funding for the Feds to set up exchanges for the states was not in the bill - somehow, the idiots thought the States would set up their own exchanges at considerable state expense. By opting out, the Feds have a tremendous burden, not only financially, but logistically. In addition, whoever wrote the bill also left a loophole ... only state exchanges provide a subsidy and if the exchange is not a state exchange, the $2,000 fine/employee doesn’t seem to apply. The bill states clearly & in more than one place that it is the ‘state exchange’. Having realized this horrendous mistake, the IRS is trying to ‘regulate’ to fill the gap and correct this, but they have already been told that they cannot impose new taxes, only congress. This is going to result in lawsuits as businesses go to court on the fine issue when the IRS does try to impose the fine. Also, states who have Fed exchanges and no employer fines will be in a stronger position than states who set up their own exchange and DO have the fine - where would you want your business located? Congress will have to approve the money for the Feds to set up these exchanges .... the Repubs need to grow a spine and starve the beast. Congress will have to revisit the ACA to make it workable. When the exchanges aren’t up in time and people are being taxed for services they are not receiving ... more lawsuits. Obamacare IS a mess and it’s going to be a DISASTER in the not-so-distant future on many levels including doctor availability, “free” in Obamacare not matching Obamaphone owner expectations ..... and on and on and on it goes.

Drowning BamaClausCare in the practical details may probably be a whole lot easier that fighting it through Congress. By the time 2014 rolls around the bloom will long be off the new 2012 hopey/changey and BamaClaus will have become the Grinch to many more of the sheeple. If Pubbies don’t get commanding majorities in both Houses in 2014, then America will truly be lost and nobama will have free rein, but I think Karma Police will have their say to the residents of the WhiteyHut and they will be the ones hoping the most 2016 can get them out of there.

Romney was their first choice followed by NOOT. Closing the primaries to the party you picked when you registered to vote would stop that. A lot of states have that rule. We do here in FL.
Herman Cain was the RATS biggest fear. They ended that real fast. . . . .
It’s time to hunker down, buy ammo and prep. Sure, we can support conservative efforts at the state level, but let’s not fool ourselves, they are still only politicians and odds are they will fail as usual. As far as 0-care is concerned, the laws of economics will defeat it before any pol. And, as far as full blown socialized health care is concerned, the economy will collapse way before something like that could be implemented in any meaningful way.
Thanks for the comments re AARP and UHC. I suspect that they are very intertwined. I do know that all the AARP payments are now direct deposit to my doctor clients and they all come through with our payments from UHC. Have been working in this field since 1985 and have never seen such strange bedfellows until this year.
I'm just another person with an opinion. And that is, we have to stop being afraid of these people. Stop flinching every time they point and shout lies and accusations like racist, greedy, anti-science. Instead, push back with the truth and watch how many people will grow a backbone and join us. Hold up our heads! We will never earn respect for conservatism if we look like we won't fight for it. And vet and support conservatives - walk away (dry up funding) from spineless elected officials who like their political career and do not work for us.
Another interesting aspect is that HHS has missed just about every deadline for turning the “law” into a program. As Joe Biden would say, “That’s a big F’n deal, man.”
