GOP lawmakers float immigration reform plan
The Washington Times ^ | Nov. 27, 2012 | Stephen Dinan

Saying they want to get the conversation on immigration reform started, top Senate Republicans on Tuesday introduced a version of the so-called “Dream Act” to grant young illegal immigrants legal status in the US, though not giving them a special path to citizenship.

GOP Sens. Jon Kyl and Kay Bailey Hutchison said they have introduced a bill that would reward those who take college classes or join the military.

“We have got to get this ball rolling,” said Mr. Kyl, an Arizona Republican who is retiring this year. “We have to have a discussion that is sensible, that is calm.”

Their bill would be more limited than the proposals Democrats have sought, which would have been more generous with a path to citizenship and broader in the number of immigrants it would apply to. But Ms. Hutchison, Texas Republican, said she and Mr. Kyl have tried to accommodate some Democratic lawmakers’ concerns.

The legislation would reward students with higher status the further along they are in pursuing their education. Those who earn a four-year college degree or complete military service could apply for a permanent visa that wouldn’t put them on a new path to citizenship, but would allow them to join existing lines by getting married to a U.S. citizen or finding another opportunity to adjust their status.

Great.
Like we need more suckers for student loans or “free” tuition.

Amnesty ping!

How did they get in the military to begin with if they are illegal? Lie ???
And this just validates lib states like Maryland using our taxpayer money to send illegals to college.

Maybe they should have to agree to never apply for US citizenship.

Kay, Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!

How about closing the gate before feeding the cattle!

You don’t have to be a citizen to serve in the US military. In fact, it’s a way to earn citizenship.

KBH remember the Alamo...you liberal mindless bleeding heart..if I rob a bank and go to college am I home free? How about if I forge my birth certificate and become usurper President am I home free? This will only encourage more illegal immigration like the 1986 amnesty did and by the way it was about 60% fraud...

Get the ball rolling and get 23 million Americans back to full time work and 48 million off of food stamps and close the border before you even think about rewarding illegal aliens anymore than they already are. Insanity or idiots or just power hungry self serving politicians? How can they sleep at night? No conscience ?

Any “immigration reform” plan that does not begin with sealing off the borders is a non-starter for me.

You see the word ‘citizenship’ anywhere in that comment of mine above regarding illegals in the military?

Translation:

We have got to get this amnesty rolling, said Mr. Kyl, an Arizona Leftist who is retiring this year. We have to have a sellout of our nation that sounds sensible, that is still a nation-killer population-bomb.

Republicans are in a ball of irrelevance, having already rolled over a cliff.

Why am I not surprised at this? Kay Bailey Hutchison personally wrote the language which gutted the border fence bill. That woman is an enemy of the people, and is determined to serve her masters until her last day in office.

Legal immigrants with green cards can join the military. Illegal aliens cannot join the military unless they use phony documents and don’t get caught.

Yep. All we can do now is hunker down in our bunkers and prepare to start picking-up the pieces after the bomb goes off in the Democrats' face. The Pubbies are useless.

I guess the GOP’s answer to losing the election is turn itself into the democratic party.
