Former presidential nominee John McCain is urging Republicans to confine their support for the unborn to rhetoric but abandon thoughts of enacting new legislation.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday over the weekend, the Arizona senator said the GOP needs a bigger tent to be successful in presidential elections, and part of that means dropping social issues important to conservatives.
Echoing the talking point that men should not weigh in on a female issue McCain said, I dont think anybody like me then pointed to himself before changing gears abruptly. I can state my position on abortion, but other than that, leave the issue alone, when we are in the kind of economic situation and, frankly, national security situation were in.

John, you’re assuming two things: First, that the folks who believe that will be satisfied to leave it at that. Second, even if they are, that the people who are against them will let them leave it at that.
You know what happens when you assume, don’t you?
We dodged a bullet when he lost the election.
You see what McCain really is - wait until you find out what Romney really is.
Next time we'll get even a more liberal candidate which is probably Jeb Bush and most on this forum will vote for him and trash those who don't. There will never be another conservative president.
Prepping is the only answer to life in the near and distant future. I am concentrating on that since liberals own this country from now on. My personal world will be okay due to preps - I don't know what the rest of the world will be.
Hmmm, seems that Mitt made the economy the central issue of his campaign, and we all know how that turned out. The leftists voted on social issues and ignorance of how our government works. The stupids think that zero has the power to do anything he wants or campaigns on. If he had his way - he would - and he still might before the end of his second term.
Oh Lord, how it pains me to write those words - second term. Ugh! It sounds like an eternity.
And what better expert at being "successful in presidential elections" could we have than John McCain?
Heil Hitler, Mr.Senile McInsane! No one is going to click their heels and salute you, IDIOT!!
Heil Hitler, Mr.Senile McInsane! No one is going to click their heels and salute you, IDIOT!!
I think he’s saying; Be pro-life, vote pro-life, just don’t campaign on the issue and make yourself a target.
That’s probably not bad advice. There are a lot of ways to run as a conservative, and your base will know where you stand.
I've been here about as long as you, and get hammered every election cycle because I won't vote for the GOP liberal.
Rule #1. Don't kill babies. Don't support it, don't look the other way.
How hard is that?
We might get another conservative president, but I'm the eternal optimist. I'm certainly not putting any cash on that bet.

Imagine the demographics without it. All I can say.
Reread the article and hold your emotions in check for just a minute. McCain didn’t call it ‘rhetoric,’ the author of the article did.
From a political perspective, McCain is right. Candidates should state their positions clearly then shut up, and not get roped into making totally stupid comments like Akin and Mourdoch. You can see how far that got them.
So... I say "Killing babies is wrong" and then I have to shut up?
What is your goal? Keeping babies alive or winning elections?

Any room in there for us Tea Partiers or the Constitution? Didn't think so.
I don't see where that's been a winning position in a long, long time.
Not for babies or conservatives.
Don't expect I'll shut up until I get shut up.
/johnny
BS. Sheep need leaders. Leaders are what got us here.
B) McCain is an idiot.
So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Wow.
I don’t care if candidates refuse to TALK about the issue beyond stating the issue. I do care if candidates refuse to take ACTION on the issue.
