Yes, Romney Was the Problem
realclearpolitics.com ^ | November 27, 2012 | Steve Baldwin

The GOP establishment and some conservative pundits, such as Ann Coulter, are in full defense mode, claiming that Romney is not responsible for losing to an incumbent responsible for perhaps the most damaging fiscal crises in our nation’s history. Don’t believe it. Romney IS responsible for wasting a billion dollars to carry out an issue-free campaign full of simple-minded platitudes. Indeed, Coulter is leading the charge with her recent column titled, Don’t Blame Romney. It’s sweet to watch Coulter defend her darling Romney, but let’s get real.

The reality is that Romney was one of the worst GOP presidential candidates in modern times. He was not the first choice of most conservative voters but he managed to rise through the ranks in the primary due to conservatives being split 4-5 ways, but also due to a slew of endorsements from conservative leaders and groups that had no business endorsing him – such as Ann Coulter. Repeatedly, Coulter assured conservatives that Romney was one of us and that he would be the “best possible candidate” to face Obama. But as any conservative from Massachusetts knew, Romney was a liberal at heart who, as Governor, led the nation in passing three of the left’s most sacred issues: Same sex marriage, Cap and Trade, and government control of health care.

But the Romney forces were clever. Beginning in 2004, they created a half dozen PACs to give money to conservative and GOP entities all over the country. I’ve reviewed these disclosures and hundreds of GOP and conservative entities benefitted from Romney’s largess. In other words, he bought the support of many “conservative leaders” and used that support to give himself “cred” among conservative voters. It was a phony image though and it’s shameful that so many conservative leaders went along with this ruse.

As noted at the bottom of the article, the original version of the article, dated 9 November, appeared on Right Wing News, which does not appear on the excerpt-only list. I suspect RWN stands to gain more by being posted here than does RCP.

Actually, the RCP version article is an abridged version of the RWN article. E.g.,
RWN RCP
Coulter goes even so far as to claim Romney lost because “he was too conservative” on immigration issues. What?  Romney never even hit Obama on his unconstitutional action to grant amnesty to two million illegal aliens because, as governor, he endorsed McCain’s amnesty legislation.  Indeed, despite his phony attacks on Gov. Rick Perry’s immigration record during the GOP primary, Romney’s actual record on immigration was quite liberal. Coulter seems oblivious to this and concluded that his phony primary rhetoric reflected his actual record.  It didn’t and Obama knew it.  See my piece on Romney’s real immigration record in here:  http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/291860/romney-conservative-immigration-steve-baldwin Coulter goes even so far as to claim Romney lost because “he was too conservative” on immigration issues. That’s pretty standard stuff especially near a POTUS election: “We got to get this guy I said I hate elected or we all die”

I must admit it (including the weak attacks) didnt faze me this time.

faze me ??? hell i had more fun this cycle than ive had in my voting life...the pathetic attempts at insults and intimidation by someof the biggest blowhards on this forum were most entertaining...

our national politics has become no more than a made for tv event, and the soap opera or WWE wannabe scripted drama is hilarious in and of itself when viewed in that light today...

the brakes were cut on the runaway bus a long time ago, well before this latest *election*...thats about the only thing the ruling class is willing to actually cut...

Can't you just imagine this was the scene with Obama and his Commie staff after stealing the election through voter fraud- while Conservatives blame Romney, argue, point fingers and try to figue out how to suck up to minorities the 'next time'?

What most refuse to acknowledge is that it was unlikely that ANYBODY could have beaten the voter fraud planned and perpetrated by the Obama machine. They seem to prefer pointing fingers, blaming Romney and blathering on about who to run in 2016 and how to suck up to the minorities.

We can not wait for 2014 and 2016 to regroup and figure out new strategies. By then it will be too late. The Marxist/Muslim usurper will have completed his planned distruction of America. That's what people fail to understand.

We must act NOW.

Start with the election. If we let the Rats get away with this massive voter fraud, we're no better than a bananna republic.

We must keep digging and pounding him every day, in every way we can- phony birth certificate, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, his hidden life, records....

Col Allen West; "I don't want to see America become like Zimbabwe where people don’t trust their electoral process. If we cannot trust the integrity of the voting system then we are no longer a free republic".

Col West has opened the door.

We must fight election fraud.

It falls on ‘We the People’.

Silence is consent

There’s overwhelming evidence of fraud.- Here

These elections are NOT certified yet. The only way to get this investigated, much less recounted or overturned, is through the Secretary of State of each of the five key states: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. EVEN IF YOU ARE IN ANOTHER STATE you can help. But it won’t do any good to dilute our effort to challenge California or Michigan or other states. Until a major group gets involved to do more, here is the plan: Contact the Secretary of State of the state in question. See contact information below...

OK, me too.
I didnt take any of them serious and instead I usually had fun ‘playing with my food(them)’ as you once described it.
I wouldnt even bother to act offended.

I was trying to set a good example with that comment for the other two but now you have smoked me out. reaganaut is shocked by this I am sure LOL

They ALL had baggage - we only heard of his for a reason and kept being repeated for a reason!

Newt would have made sure obama's trunk full of baggage was exposed. Newt didn't have the romney funds to counteract what is considered baggage. What really is his baggage COMPARED to the others that anyone knows/thinks about?

I just realized who wrote this, Steve Baldwin (of San Diego) is a good guy, I worked on one or two of his campaigns and knew him a little, was in his home.

Baldwin is the guy that 60 minutes did a hit piece on (for his Christian views) the Sunday before the election, when Baldwin first ran for state assembly, which put in a deviant leftist who then went to jail for underage hookers, if I remember correctly.

A similar thing happened to Carol Bentley in the San Diego area against Lucy Killea? during that era, there was no hit piece against Carol, but the national media turned Killia? into a minor celebrity, she may have even been on Oprah, Carol didn’t stand a chance against that publicity.

The national media plays an important role in even minor elections, these two media victories helped the democrats greatly in California.

You'll get no argument from me on this point. But had the ticket been one that Conservatives really liked and could approve whole-heartedly, more of us would have been at the polling places standing against the evident fraud. I just didn't have a pony in this race. Too bad I'm a Conservative and not a Republican Party devotee.

Romney was indeed the problem. Obama successful painted him as rich slick guy who didn’t care about people (which isn’t true). The stupid voters bought it. Image is important in politics particularly with independents and undecideds in states like ohio, florida etc.

.

Romney was not my first choice, but he was what we had.

We could have put up Jesus Christ himself up as the Republican candidate and he would not have won the most votes against the Obama Machine’s massive voter fraud.

Anyone who claims that the fraud was not enough to change any outcomes is engaging in wishful thinking.
There is recorded voter fraud on a massive scale all across the country.

The Democratic party today is composed of Marxist criminals.
They break any rules they want with impunity, and the republicans are too cowardly to act.

We’re in a coup. Pretending that we are not and we can ‘try again’ next election is pathetic and only postpones any real fight back against this criminal administration.

Where would we be today if our forefathers had refused to fight against tyranny?
Silence in the face of evil is itself evil.
Not to speak is to speak.
Not to act is to act.

This is the second time on this same thread that you have expressed this idea. You must be proud of it. Did you come up with it on your own or did you read it somewhere else? I can only guess why it was addressed in response to my post but you gained neither FRiend nor ally by expressing it here twice. Somehow, it muddies the points you are trying so hard to establish today on FR.

Blaming Romney for what has been happening forthe last 4 elections doesn’t make any sense. Romney had the votes, he just wouldn’t protect them.
