FOX News: A writer at Forbes Magazine has identified a phenomenon called the death spiral states. The category includes 11 states where private sector workers are outnumbered by people who are dependent on the government. That number would include state workers, and people who are receiving welfare or pension. For example, in California the ratio of takers versus makers is bigger than one. If you own a software company that employs 100 people, youre supporting 139 other people in the state who are on the takers list.

Did all 11 states strongly support Obama on Nov 6, or just most of them?
I have a Conservative friend who left California a couple of years ago and moved to New Mexico to get away from the state. Well it appears from a death spiral stand point New Mexico is at 153/100 which is worse than California which is 139/100.
It looks like ll but KY, SC, MS and AL (quick check) are obozo states.
Only 6 of the 11...4 of them being among the nation's most heavily populated states.
If I had to guess, I think military personnel stationed in the states are getting counted as takers.
Hmm — double check me?

They’re not all Democrat states, the Southern states aren’t. Forbes’ focus was on states for which it would be dangerous to buy or hold municipal or state bonds, so it’s purely a set of fiscal criteria (as I read it).
Amazing that Michigan is not number 1.
What I’ve seen and heard it looks like a war zone.

Alabama is solidly Republican/conservative...the last Democrat in elected state office was defeated in the 11-6-2012 election. The entire state government and the Supreme Court are held by Republicans.
Redstone Arsenal, Rocket City (Huntsville), is probably receiving serious federal money.
We have a Black population of 25% that 'draws in' a lot of federal money too.
Who knows who voted for what?.....
Missed Hawaii
I’m surprised that Pennsylvania is not on this list.
Seems like I’m the only one at the supermarket paying cash for my items, while all others use the EBT card.
Forbes really likes Colorado, doesn’t he. ;-)
SC certainly isn't an obama state. We never even saw a presidential ad here because it was already given to the R column.
New Mexico is full of watermelons (green on the outside and red on the inside) and they have wrecked the State. Sad.
Also, Fort Rucker and the AF base in Montgomery supports a huge retired population, and don't forget the very large retired population living in the vicinity of now-defunct Fort McClellan at Anniston.
In fact, I'd say that the so-called "entitled" population of Alabama is hugely comprised of retired military personnel, all of which usually vote a conservative ticket.
So...I'm not convinced that labeling Alabama as a death spiral state, when compared to, say Ohio, is valid.
Just because a state did not vote for Obama does not mean it is being run well. Look at the criteria to make the list - unfunded liabilities are the top concern. There are about as many Republicans as Democrats who are willing to give away taxpayer money to government employees, I’m afraid. Politicians spend. It’s what people elect them to do.
No way in Hell NJ doesn’t belong on that list; we have a lot of takers, and are bleeding jobs and taxpayers like crazy. It was bad enough for people to elect Christie as governor (and I’m glad they did), but that was only because many of our takers can’t vote (illegals and/or felons). Our government workforce is bloated (even after layoffs of thousands due to our property tax cap), and the costs of our retirees are strangling us.
I think people will be investing in those southern states on the list long before they invest in NJ...
"So...I'm not convinced that labeling Alabama as a death spiral state, when compared to, say Ohio, is valid. "
I remember during the Iraqi war hearing on the radio that the State of Alabama had more people in the war than any other state except Texas.
The population of Alabama is less than metropolitan Houston. So...that seems reasonable.
I don’t see Mississippi on there — only Maine.
Just the demoncrap pustules known as Detroit and Flint, which are run by low-life suckup Obama wannabes.
The rest of Michigan is pretty nice.
*
Look at the election county map for Michigan. Detroit is war zone rat handout central. Rest of that state is all red.
Really except for the major cities (New York, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, Cleveland, etc.) with black populations the rest of the UNITED STATES is red. We have 10 cities controlling the entire country now via paid for voters and scamming.
