Cribs for needy families stolen in Woodstock (unintentional irony alert)

When Monti Price arrived for work at the Hope Center in Woodstock Wednesday morning, she was struck by what she did not see.

“I noticed a big empty space in our parking lot where our trailer used to be,” she said.

Inside that trailer, five brand new cribs intended for needy mothers like Angela, who earned them by attending parenting classes. Angela arrived at the ministry for pregnant women and new mothers on Thursday afternoon, hoping to pick up the crib for her three-month old son, David.

“Just to find out this,” she said, shaking her head in sad surprise, “I’m really disappointed.”

Without the crib, she said, her young son will do what he has done since birth.

“David will sleep with me for now, in the same bed. And it’s not even safe for the baby,” she added, saying there is just no way she can afford a crib on her own.

Hope Center executives say, since word of the theft started spreading, the community has rushed in with offers of support. There have been enough donations to cover the purchase of new cribs, but not enough yet to buy a new trailer. The trailer, which was also donated, had been used to deliver the cribs and baby seats, also given to those who earn them by taking parenting classes and who might not otherwise be able to afford them.

Woodstock Police continue their investigation into the theft. And Angela had a message for the thief:

“You ought to be ashamed of yourself,” she admonished, “and ask for forgiveness from God.”

Not at all. You're seeing this through the filter of what you want to see not what is.

Riiiight. When you called her a "parasite," a "burden on society," said she should be "ashamed of [herself]" and compared her (unfavorably) to a thief, you were not conveying moral superiority. Gotcha.

away in a manger no crib for his bed...how ironic that we engage in debate over stolen cribs during the christmas season

I think what others are trying to say is that your posts seem to lack compassion for our fellow man

if you are christian you are required to show compassion for your fellow man
all of them..those who make mistakes and even those whom you may think are robbing you blind with the help of the government

But the article was about a voluntary charity. Not government.

You asked a general question. I answered it. Actually making private charity more descriminating would probably help too. I remember reading an article abou charity in the early 20th century, and according to the article those doleing out the goodies then were much more likely to turn someone down because they had a drinking problem, wouldn't try to work etc. than do charities today. I think the article was published somewhere in the fee.org site.

She is (a parasite), probably always will be (a burden on society), and yes, she should (be ashamed of herself).

And yes, she is (the same as a thief).

Truth is not always pretty.

It is, however, still truth.

There are two classes of people today those who work for a living and those who steal for a living. The latter can be subdivided into those who steal directly and those who rely on the government to do their dirty work for them. Pick a side.

I will say that I have no DIRECT evidence that she is in the last mentioned class, I simply INFERRED it from the fact that she was counting on charity to provide her with some supplies. However, most people who are getting private charity go first to the government and second to the private charity. Just betting the odds here.

“Sometimes conservatives can be so judgmental and it just comes off as mean.”

I agree. Disapproving isn’t the same thing as judging.
Sadly a few of the posts here come off not only as judgmental but also mean, uninformed, and more than a little hypocritical.
This is a totally private charity and I thought the purpose of a charity was to help the less fortunate.
Would aborting the baby have been preferred?

Mary was NOT homeless, and, she was engaged to be married when she conceived. It’s not like she was a child bride. She was age appropriate for the time.

And, she accepted her assignment with grace. She could have refused.

Are you comparing Mary to these low life single girls that sleep around with whoever, get knocked up and keep the kid for the 1st of the month check?

Really?

I'm somewht selective in my compassion. I try to reserve it for those who are in bad straits through no fault fo their own. Like those who are stricken by an expensive disease. Those who are injured in accidents that were caused by someone else, and of course I have compassion for the hardworking americans who are being robbed to buy votes for the Democratic party.

those who make mistakes

A mistake as an accidently oversight like thinking you have a $50 bill in your wallet and it turns out you have a $20. A mistake is adding up a column of numbers wrong. A mistake is getting the wrong size (or maybe the right size) dress for your wife's birthday. Having a child that you cannot afford is a life style choice. You have to choose a baby daddy. You have to choose to have sex with said baby daddy. You have to choose to NOT practice birth control during the aforementioned sex. These are conscious deliberate choices, not accidental oversights

how you describe this young girl is exactly what mary’s village thought of her..
remember they even encouraged Joseph break off the engagement so they could stone her

and yes as she entered bethlehem she was indeed homeless as she prepared to give birth to Christ

Thank you, Mom4Me. I thought that ‘Mary was a homeless single teenager’ meme had been laughed off the island, but apparently, it’s still lurking around.

your religious tendencies are not my business of course but christians believe we are not to be “ selective in compassion”

we are taught to be compassionate towards all...a very difficult teaching but it is what we are asked to do and what we should strive for

if you look at christ’s life this was a very consistent message in his teachings
prostitutes, tax collectors and adulterers of His time were the “low life’s” and he befriended them all

Do not forget the these “low life’s” as you call them are exactly the people that Christ himself befriended during his ministry... the prostitutes..aduluterers.. tax collectors and thieves are the same people you look down upon today

That may be what they thought, but it wasn’t reality.

She wasn’t homeless. She came back to a home, with her husband. She had family support from her cousin.

She gave birth in a barn. Big deal. People give birth in taxi’s too.

The point is, it is beyond gross to compare Mary to these promiscuous teenagers, and to compare their bastard spawn to the Son of God.

To call people names and to spew hate towards our fellow man is not to walk with Christ

and yes the birth of Christ in a stable is kind of a big deal... Merry Christmas to you

Yes he did...

And what did he tell them?

Go, and sin no more.

He also instructed us to care for the widow and orphan, not the slutty and lazy.

I worked as an RN in an inner city Pregnancy Clinic for too many years not to know how this works.

We need to put birth control in the city water and stop the freebies.

You have no idea about my personal walk with Christ.

The reason we have this societal mess is too many do-gooders are handing out the freebies (rewards) and not enough rightous thinkers are handing out the condemnation.

If my grandparents had gotten up off the pew and chased the homo’s back in the closet and shut down the abortion clinics, and kept up the shame of unwed pregnancies, we would not have the national misery we do now.

And when a woman/girl does get pregnant, the baby daddy, and the grandparents (both sets) need to do the supporting, not society.

We certainly need to stop government mandated freebies. I include SS and Medicare/Medicaid in that.

Poisoning the water to cause abortions... that I'm not good with.

I'll give my charity, as I see fit, to those that I believe should get it. I hesitate to take money at gunpoint from others to do that.

There use to be shame in her actions. Women have removed the shame and the illegitimate babies have exploded. Have a heart Albion. We are all broke because of it. These women are voting to suck more and more of our money. Where is the heart for the girls that don't do that and the family can't afford to send them to college?

Poisoning the water to cause abortions...

Huh? Who said anything about that?

I agree with you. Government mandated charity is not the message of Christ as the socialists often tout

charity must be given freely out of love or it is without meaning

I am not here to argue for socialism or communism because I believe they are true societal evil

what does bother me is name calling and hate.. it is possible to hold conservative view points and show compassion to all our fellow man

the two are not mutually exclusive
