The House voted Friday to cancel the annual diversity visa lottery and give those immigration visas to high-tech foreign-born who earn advanced degrees from American universities, as Republicans powered through their chamber the first major immigration bill since the election.
The 245-139 vote was a test of the GOP’s plan to tackle immigration piecemeal, and while the bill passed, the strong opposition from Democrats suggests that Republicans’ strategy will face difficult hurdles.
And while the chief selling point of the bill was to boost green cards given to science, technology, engineering and technology students, the bigger fight came over Republicans’ plans to cancel the diversity visa lottery, which the GOP argues is rife with fraud.
“We want to put to the head of the line the people who, every single one of them that comes, net creates jobs,” said Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican, who managed the bill on the House floor.
Democrats, though, objected to making immigration a zero-sum equation, where any new visas would have to come at the expense of existing lines of immigration.
“I can’t support a bill that pits immigrant communities against each other,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren, the ranking Democrat on the House immigration subcommittee......

Not only a good idea....but puts the Dems on the defense
Do the Dems deny Legal Immigrants a right to continue to stay and work in the USA? Are the Dems racist if they do not
Most important is that this bill provides further benefits to LEGAL IMMIGRANTS....notably those who came to America LEGALLY for educational reasons under a STUDENT VISA.
Instead of DREAM ACT Illegal Alien Amnesty (which is an insult to real Student Visa International Students)...this type of bill is better....because it covers those already legally here (or previously on a Student Visa)

A goos number of these immigrants will vote Democrat anyway; the only difference is the quality of the jobs they take from Americans. Better-educated immigrants just take jobs from better-educated Americans.

I would really like to see the enrollment stats of my alma mater to learn the percentage of white vs Asian engineering students.
I would guess there are many more Asians than when I was there 40 years ago.
I now have 25 leads, the hottest one is with my State's Obamacare implementation of the Health Information Exchange.
The stupid party doesn't know that American universities have become leftist indoctrination centers. The more time spent in them, the more leftist young pliable minds become. The GOP should instead insist on an IQ test of some kind and only give green cards to the top quintile. That certification test might lead to an implosion of the brick and mortar indoctrination centers for all students.
We truly are doomed.

That's more the fault of the public educational system than anything else. It's also due to the fact that the best and brightest nowadays see their best hope for a prosperous future as lawyers politicians or working for some government agency.

Don't forget the new preferred vendor kickback the MBA bean counter dept. will be getting. The great thing about this though is you might be able to go offshore yourself, make a great living somewhere better and stop feeding the envy driven white man hating 51%. America has just experienced an inflection point. It's all downhill from here.

It pits the ignorant, uneducated, worthless, welfare consuming and malleable to become Democrat voters immigrant community; against the intelligent, educated, hard working and far more likely to become Republican immigrant community.
