Romney internal polls mystery deepens after New Republic report

It may take election experts years to unravel the mystery of why Mitt Romney was convinced he had won the 2012 presidential election, as a new report shows some skewed internal poll numbers, and explains Romney’s two trips to Pennsylvania.

But at the same time, the article from The New Republic’s Noam Scheiber shows inconsistencies with reports from November 5 and November 6 about the numbers that might have convinced Romney and his team that he had a good chance of beating President Obama in Ohio.

Obama’s resounding win is starting to take on more of a resemblance to Harry Truman’s “upset” in 1948, with Romney playing the role of Thomas Dewey.

Obama wound up with 332 electoral votes, taking every swing state except North Carolina. Somehow, the Romney campaign was seemingly convinced that he would win one of the final three swing states, or make a strong showing in Pennsylvania.

[snip]

The conclusion is that Romney, based on his internal polls, thought he had at least 267 out of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the election, and the election would be decided in four states: Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Nevada

The base that you see being motivated consisted of mostly suburban conservatives. Out here in rural Virginia the townie liberal and black precincts had high turnout and the precincts in the middle of nowhere had light turnout, The numbers in Virginia coal counties like Tazewell were especially depressing, only 50% of adults turned out even though it was well publicized that their livelihoods were being destroyed by Obama's war on coal. Meanwhile there was 60% of voting age turnout in predominantly black cities like Petersburg.

We failed miserably in the ad wars as well. The RNC and RSC played the lamest possible ads to suburban and urban voters (a lost cause). Meanwhile Planned Parenthood saturated country music stations with their taxpayer funded ads ripping Romney going for the stupid women vote (the demographic, not women in general) and succeeding.

I called a hunting buddy to make sure he was going to vote the next day.

“I wasn't even going to vote” he said. “ who am I going to vote for, Donald Duck?”

My friend is not a political animal. He has voted in the past. I do not know if he voted this year or not. But he, like many did not vote at all because he saw the same old lack of choice that gave us candidate McCain.

Can't say I blame him. I blame the defective Republican Party.

“It doesn’t take massive voter fraud, when combined with “our” 3 million fools who didn’t vote or voted for some fantasy 3rd party protest.”

Would those “fools” who didn’t vote or voted for some fantasy 3rd party protest be kinda like those “fools” signing secession petitions?

It would seem that all of these “fools” have decided that the status quo is unsatisfactory.

Romney always was a crappy candidate, and he got his butt handed to him. The dems did NOT own the party machinery in Ohio, the republicans do. I live here. I know. Nor is it unusual that Barack would get 99% of the vote in an all-black precinct of which there are many in downtown Cincinnati. Again, I live here; I know. Is anyone really surprised that Obama took about 95% of the black vote???

Romney should go home and shut up. He was a loser from the beginning. He was willing to unload on conservatives with every form of borderline, vile accusation, but he turned into Mr Milquetoast from everything to Benghazi to Budget when it came to Obama. My fear is that the jerk will try again in 2016.

He’s a terrible candidate in the line of Dole and McCain.

“What lost the election for Romney was the fact that conservatives just did not show up to vote for the liberal former-governor of Massachusetts. ....Voter turnouts were amazingly low among conservatives....”

THAT’S NOT TRUE!!....We were not voting Romney, but against Obama....The numbers were there....Obvious voter fraud throughout the country!!....Illegals voting in FL, pollsters thrown out and then Obama gets 100% of the vote, 900 votes counted in a small district where only 7 people were registered....It was on a massive scale.....

The crowd in this video was not even at a planned rally!!...Just before the electon....The numbers were there!.....Republicans/Conservatives are like the blind leading the blind on this issue.....My last post on this crap....As someone said earlier, the fix is in, just prepare yourselves for the inevitable......

Go read a few articles on the level of industrialized vote fraud.

It seems those votes are difficult to reflect in polling data.

It’s a mystery for those unwilling to discuss reality, for fear of being labeled.
You see, without convictions, you have no “proof”.
And there’s a stupid legal ruling that prevents investigation or prevention of vote fraud.
Let’s start by getting THAT set aside.

Polls don’t pick up fraud unless you factor it in. That’s why some polls use a higher number of democrats than actually exist.

Yes early voter fraud in Ohio and Fl and bier is fraud in Pa and Wi sealed the deal .
Romney people were to naive to not set up
Poll watchers and lawyers in all the Dem run counties in those states .
In Fl,
The Dem run counties illegally kept early voting open past the state deadline which was illegal and nothing was said or done !
Where was the GOP and Romney ??

You must have missed the fact that the owner of this website actively encouraged NOT voting for Romney, AND had tons of support here.

It is exactly why they freaked out and slammed anyone, especially reproducible people who questioned the ridiculous unemployment drop before the election. Their overwhelming response was to prevent anyone from dare questioning the results of the election.

It worked. The left cowarded the honest.

The Obama left went to court in Pa and Wi to stop voter Id for one reason!
To stuff the ballot boxes !
Then the poll watchers were tossed out in Philly for half a day !

The Obama left went to court in Ohio to keep early voters going to steal the election in Cleveland and Toledo !
The Dem run counties in Fl illegally kept early voting going on Sunday and Monday !
Please spare me this Chicago machine thug did not steal this election !

"The real problem in Virginia (as elsewhere) ...'

Yes there was voter fraud. Yes conservatives did not turn out in waves as expected. The bottom line is that Team Obama earned the election over the last four years:

1. Team Obama, aided and abetted by the MSM, was able to frame the election away from the economy to the perception of how the GOP and Big Business created the mess in the first place.

2. Team Obama spent four years using Alinsky tactics in identifying, registering, and delivering the votes of persons and groups sympahetic to their cause in the so called swing stats.

3. Team Obama, blending Alinsky and Chicago thug tactics played the game to win.

Team Romney had no counter, offered no vision, gave the voters no reason to vote for him except that he was not Obama.

Both of your posts made very good points. But I would add another factor: the eleventh hour, highly suspect improvements in some economic indicators in general, and in particular the miraculous downturn in unemployment below the magic level of 8%. The timing of these obvious maniplations benefitted Obama tremendously by allowing him to make the case for more time.

The largely ignorant and greedy electorate is easily manipulated and misled. So there will only be a return to some semblance of sanity when severe economic pain forces them to reconsider the consequences of their votes. All the logic in the world won’t change peoples’ minds; only the experience of pain will, as it so often does in our personal lives.

It’s simple - no matter how accurate your polling is, it can’t correct for massive vote fraud.

He did not steal the election. Romney got his butt handed to him. He ran a terrible campaign, he was a terrible candidate, he had no ground campaign in Ohio, and he refused to engage Obama on anything.

They don’t NEED to go fraudulent in the black neighborhoods of Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Getting 99% there when you got 95% of the black vote nationwide is not a remarkable thing at all.

In fact, I would be more surprised if he did NOT get 99% in a black, inner-city precinct. There’s no need for fraud there.

I agree with you. Massive fraud that's NOT being investigated or talked aboutby ANY Pubbie.

Our base was motivated, as referenced in your PA video/pic.

Our turn out was way up...all over the country. Reports with pics came in through out the day of long lines of Chic Fil A voters. The long lines of 0Phone voters were not reported and paled in comparison. Where are the pics of the long lines of 0Phone voters, across the country or even in more than two or three districts?
