Senator: 'Increasingly Clear [Obama's] Comfortable Going Off the Cliff'
Weekly Standard ^ | Monday, December 3, 2012 | Daniel Halper

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming believes President Barack Obama is "comfortable going off the [fiscal] cliff."

"I think the president is increasingly showing his hand that he is comfortable going off the cliff," Barrasso tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD, in response to a question about President Obama's negotiation strategy. "He’s not involving Republicans in the process. He was playing golf this weekend with Bill Clinton, Ron Kirk, and ex-DNC chair Terry McAuliffe. He’s not seeming to be one to work together. He seems to be lecturing more than listening. And I just think that it’s increasingly clear he's comfortable going off the cliff."

The Republican senator believes Obama's posture is being reinforced by bad advice he's getting from some of his fellow Democrats. "[T]hat’s what he’s being advised to do by a number of his Democratic colleagues—Howard Dean, former chairman of the DNC said they should go off the cliff, Patty Murray, who ran the senatorial committee, said they should go off the cliff," says Barrasso in a phone interview, referring multiple times to Obama’s weekend golf outing with Democratic stalwarts.

Barrasso thinks Obama should be working on getting a deal with the Republicans in Congress instead of spending his weekend on the golf course with such partisans.

Additionally, Barrasso believes Obama's willingness to go off the cliff relates to his view of achieving fairness through the tax code.

"The president is so fixated on higher taxes that he’s giving up on [the prospect of] a healthy economy. We’re going to see unemployment over 9 percent in this second recession, I believe, if the president doesn’t work together to find a bipartisan solution," says Barrasso.

He’ll still blame Bush.

Boy, it would be great to defund AF1. These people are living like billionaires - like African potentates. It’s unbelievable! Obviously a huge segment of our society have a need to worship a snake oil salesman and be taken to the cleaners.

If it goes over the cliff nearly everyone will blame the Republicans. This seems a win/win for Odumbo.

Sometimes I’m not sure the GOPe entirely disagrees with the role the media has them playing. No one can be that stupid.

I agree 100%.

The Republicans are on the wrong side.

The GOP needs to be for America. For American jobs, for American made goods. For everything American.

How it has happened the GOP is on the side of imports and foreign factories is ridiculous.

Buy American!

GOP go on the offense.

Go to Hawaii hold a press conference everyday at 1am local time or 6am eastern time “ we are desperately trying to meet the POS but he is avoiding dealing with the peoples issues he promised. Parks will close, condom supplies will be short(no pun ), obama phones will stop working if he doesn't address the financial cliff.....”

The house republicans should pass the bill they want - and send it to the democrats in the senate.

Simple as that...

If the cliff is what we get after that, then it is on the democrats.

The HOUSE has to originate the bill. It is the HOUSE that has the power in this scenario.

That the republicans don’t get this, is why they will and should be replaced by the tea party.

” genuine conservatives such as..... “
And don’t forget Herman Cain. A real conservative, a genuine African American, a businessman. I will never forgive the RINOs for leaving him in the lurch. At the VERY least we would have put to the test the presupposition that blacks voted for Obama just because he’s black (they might have still voted for free stuff, but now we will never know).

“The GOP needs to start assaulting the media with trash talk.”
I couldn’t agree more. Attack the media and bozo. Talk trash and combine it with a good argument. The trash talk makes the media cover it and forces the message through. If the media takes the trash talker out of context, trash talk the media. Let them have it.

“...GOP will be blamed”

No, that's small potatoes. He'll go for the juggler, CAPITALISM. He'll blame Capitalism, the media will follow and all those who voted for him will follow. I can't foresee any situation where people are going to wake up. They're done.

“Comfortable Going Off the Cliff”

“Comfortable? He WANTS this country to go off of the cliff.”

That will be his opportunity to really change things, to blame CAPITALISM for all that is bad. Guess what comes after that?
