The Post-Election Public Mood: It’s About to Hit the Fan
Freedom Outpost ^ | December 3, 2012 | Gordon Runyan

Posted on 12/04/2012 4:27:33 AM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

Freedom Outpost has previously reported on the fact that gun sales represent at least one booming sector of the American economy since the re-election of Barak Obama. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to interpret that piece of data in terms of sociology: What must people be thinking? That’s a legitimate question, and it’s easy to think of an answer.

Horror icon, Stephen King, has a theory that the same sort of “weather vane” indication of the public mood can be discerned from the popularity, or lack thereof, of current scary movies. In his nonfiction book about creating horror fiction, Danse Macabre, King theorizes that if horror flicks are enjoying a great deal of success, that’s an indication that the public at large is nervous or fearful. If the horror industry tanks, that means the public is generally optimistic about the future. (And, by the way, horror flicks have been doing really well since about 2008. I’m just sayin’.)

I believe I’ve stumbled onto another bit of information that says a great deal about the public mood. And that is, as a writer whose wares are on sale at Amazon.com, it behooves me to keep an eye on what’s selling and what isn’t. What are the hot topics?

Well, before the November election, books about President Obama and about political theory in general were flying off the shelves. But now, checking the same bestseller lists that used to show those books doing well, it is plain that the mood has shifted. Those sorts of books have been supplanted and upstaged to a large degree. And the genre or theme that has replaced them is [insert drumroll here] Disaster Preparedness.

Books about how to assemble a “survival preparedness kit,” or more popularly, a “bug-out bag,” are all the rage. Freedom Outpost, as always, is here to help. Save your money: the information is widely available for free. In fact, here is a link to the aptly named Bug Out Bag List website which has done a good job of consolidating it for you.

Caution: As I perused the provided links, I noted that my computer started acting “wonky” when I tried to access the list provided at the Ready.Gov site (the third link on the “other lists” list.) You might stay away from that.

So, here you go: A short list that represents what experts seem to agree are the absolute essentials of disaster preparedness. Of course, the number of other items that might well be extremely useful is endless. But this seems to be the general consensus on critical items:

As you’re considering this, recall that the folks affected by Sandy were without basic services like water and electricity for a lot longer than 72 hours…

Is this the perfect list for you? That’s doubtful. The perfect list is the one that fits your needs to take care of your family.

But back to our sociological experiment. Let me ask, what’s going on in the public mood that prepping is suddenly all the rage? I’m guessing the answer is probably the same as with all the gun sales. Is there some alarmism involved? Probably. But I think it’s more about people simply coming to the realization that they can’t really depend on anyone, especially the government, to make sure they survive a crisis. It’s still good American advice: Trust in God and keep your powder dry.

For more discussion about how Bible-believing patriots specifically ought to respond to darkening skies, caused by their own government, get the book, Resistance to Tyrants: Romans 13 and the Christian Duty to Oppose Wicked Rulers, for less than a decent cup of hipster latte’.

They will let chaos reign in the hotspots for about a week, cordone off escape and then load people onto busses or trains for the camps.

They will let things settle down--either the bad guys will be eliminated or they will prevail--or some sort of truce will happen.

Simple enough--get out of those hotspots if you can't really hide well (like from thermal imaging).

If anyone thinks you are nuts have them check out what happened with hurricane Rita in 2005.

People were like locust moving across the land.

Convenience stores shelves were emptied in just a couple of hours.

Fuel tanks ran dry and there was no way to get more fuel delivered.

Tens of thousands of cars ran out of fuel and were pushed to the side of the road.

What will you do when all the middle class obuma liberals are chased out of the big cities by savagery, and they show up at your doorstep begging for food and protection? Some will have babies and little kids in tow.

Very easy decision to make: RUN THEM OFF.

The kids are just props. Like good New Socialist Parents, the kids will be used as window dressing, to garner sympathy from those of us who had the maturity to prepare. "It's for the children!" they cried while they indoctrinated them in their government schools.

If you give them even so much as an Obama Happy Meal, you just told them that you've got stash. They will think, "what ELSE have you got"? And they will come back in the night, with their boyfriends in tow, and they will kill you, your family, even your cat, and take all you have. It's their "fair share", they are "entitled" to what you have.

Tell them to go to the nearest FEMA shelter and show their voter ID card (if they have them). Their liberal creds can get them helpings from Obama's stash. After all, the gibmedats wanted it that way.

Seriously, ever hit a grocery store after midnight? The aisles are loaded with pallets of stuff coming in. If that stopped even for two days, the shelves would be empty.

People cannot now conceive how insane and how quickly it would all happen. If it were to happen right now, by this weekend there would be dead bodies by the side of the road.

I just watched "The War of the Worlds" (Tom Cruise version) this weekend. The scene near the bridge when he came through the crowd with his car was very instructive. Civilization's veneer is very thin - you see proof of that just going for a parking spot or trying to merge into traffic every day. We see it yearly on Black Friday, as people turn on each other just to save $5 or $10 on the latest piece of garbage for their kids. People are just smart animals, and we are generally ruled by fear and greed.

I don't want to be near any crowds at all when the SHTF - the best way to walk away from a fight is not to avoid it in the first place.

Oh, and there were very few guns in The War of the Worlds - which is not reflective of reality at all, even in the Northeast (where I grew up). In the South and West there are generally more guns than people. The carnage during food shortages will be shocking to most. Stock up on your bullets, beans and band aids and practice your skills NOW, while there's time to do so.

"...and they show up at your doorstep begging for food and protection? Some will have babies and little kids in tow."

They get a bag of rice, 2 liters of potable water, a disposable lighter and a warning. Tell no one where you got it and don't come back. Next time a bag of rice won't be what you get. Harsh but true.

Now, depending on circumstances that basic protocol could change. If they were injured, if they had screaming babies, if there were hostiles roaming the area, etc.

Different considerations would also be given for folks who have something valuable to bring to the party.

We didn't need Hollywood to show us how the low-lifes would react to a crisis. All we needed to do was remember the videos of Katrina. Even cops were looting. And they knew order would be restored within days, if not hours.

Imagine how those animals will act when they think order and the rule of law will never be restored.

Those “parents” would snatch the food right out of the kids hands. If they voted for obama, they certainly couldn’t give a crap about their kids.

The welfare types already do that. Seen it myself.

If nothing else, a stash of food is a hedge against inflation, especially if it is long-term storage food, and groceries if you suffer a sudden downturn. Unlike gold or silver, it is an investment you can eat...

I can’t see that type having the wherewithal to walk out of the city to where the food is.

Recently, we’ve had Paranorman released, The Walking Dead is a huge hit, Warm Bodies is coming soon as well as World War Z.... all zombie movies/shows.

The real zombie apocalypse is coming.

No. They'll just split someone’s head and take their car. Then they'll head out of the city to rape, pillage, and plunder.

I do nothing as my front door will be shut/locked and I'm not going to the door. If the situation is that bad, a new line has been drawn in the sand and I drew it.

Whatever the cost - DON’T BE A REFUGEE.

Better to die a free man, standing up than live on your knees as a slave to tyrants.

These are the bastards who won.

Further proof that Obama and his minions stole this election. A lot of the Loonies who voted for Obama last time didn't do so this time. They were force fed the Kenyan again and they are as p!$$ed as we are.

With a "minor" event like Sandy, your protocol might be acceptable. In a real SHTF scenario where society has collapsed, your protocol would not be good.

If I were hungry, I would come to your house and either use Plan A or Plan B:

Plan A: I hold my gun under my coat and collapse on the ground outside your door. My wife pounds frantically on your door and says I am injured -- can you help? Your family is about 2 minutes from dying because your protocol fails.

Plan B: My wife and I come to your door looking quite respectable and calm. Again, my gun is under my coat. My wife is sticking a pin in our baby's leg. We politely ask you for food for our hungry child. Your family is about 2 minutes from dying because your protocol fails.

After Sandy the Mayor of NYC banned food for the homeless... there are towns and cities still demanding property taxes be paid on time... etc can you imagine people like that in charge when the crap really hits the fan?

When I worked at grocery stores we had dry goods delivered about 3 times a week, we had dairy delivered a couple times a week.

Those shelves will be bare within a couple of hours when the excrement starts flying.
