Obama: We Are Not Going To Negotiate With The Debt Ceiling

David Taintor 11:19 AM EST, Wednesday December 5, 2012

President Obama on Wednesday described Republicans who are considering holding the debt ceiling vote hostage in additional negotiations after the so-called fiscal cliff in January as partaking in a "bad strategy for America."

"I will not play that game," Obama told business leaders at a quarterly meeting of the Business Roundtable in Washington. "We are not going to play that game next year. We've got to break that habit before it starts."

I really starting to think the whole thing was a set-up. going back to the “Super committee” that was supposed to negotiate a “deal”. The ‘Rats knew back then that the whole thing was set up to fail. The Committee failed, so they set the “fiscal cliff” trap for the ‘Pubs. They knew that the media would browbeat the sheeple into blaming the ‘Pubs, that would result in their regaining the House in ‘14 after Obama won in ‘12. Obama will get no blame, only credit if something is worked out, and the ‘Rats will use that as fodder to re-take the House. The ‘Rats knew the fiscal cliff was a no-win for the ‘Pubs, and win-win for them. So they don't care. Go over the cliff, the ‘Pubs get the blame and the ‘Rats win and re-take the House. Work out a “deal”, which will be just the ‘Pubs caving to every ‘Rat demand, then they win because they get the credit for “leadership” and they re-take the House. It was a set-up from the get-go.

Then don’t call it vacation.

In the first place, the dims can’t take vacation until they vote for obumber’s spending/tax program.

They could do that in one day, but I doubt it because it first has to be written up as a bill.

But suppose they do.

Don’t call it vacation. Just have all conservatives who have worries about re-election get the flu. Call in sick.

Then the ones who remain can be out in the hall drinking coffee or going to the bathroom when the vote is called.

Or they can all stay there and vote present. That would keep the dims from sneaking through other legislation that they might otherwise attempt to do.

The point is that the conservatives must let obumbler have his way on the tax thing, like it or not, and the constituents have to understand that it is not reneging on a campaign promise...it is a tactical retreat.

Sucker punch, bunt....whatever, there is a time when hitting a home run is not in the cards and you have to resort to other tactics.

They take the House in 2014.

There have been a lot of "final nails" in the coffin of America. This would truly be the last nail. With Pelosi back at the helm as SOTH, she & Reid will find a way to repeal the 22nd Amendment. Perhaps they'll just "deem" it repealed without a vote!

Duhhh!
This is why Bohner’s negotiating makes no sense(he is probably just playing to voters sympathy for when the cliff hits but it wont work)

Obama promised those tax increases as a major campaign promises and he won and the polls overwhelmingly show that voters will blame Republicans for the off the cliff(I am sick of that nick-name) , and polls are showing little disapproval of the tax increases O promises, so O hase absolutely no reason to give on anything, and all the reason to hold out till Rs cave. So this negotiation is all a waste of time and attention

Once again

stop negotiating, and no passing tax increase bills in house

Pass the partial extension <$250K and send to Senate

Get on TV and let voters know you (House Rs) saved voters from a tax increases

Declare on TV Obama crisis over

Beg Obama (show for voters) ON TV to NOT raise taxes on job creators, tell voters you did everything you could do to stop it and why its bad. Voters give Obama credit for raising them even though they are automatic, he cant get out of that.

Let everything else go over the cliff. no restored spending, no stimulus, no nothing

You made your bed Dems. Blame every problem for the next 4 years on those Obama tax increases

The 2014 elections are a long way off and with the last round of redistricting I think it will be tough for the Dems to take back the house regardless of the fiscal cliff situation. By November of 2014 things could be bad enough where the President and the Dems get a lot of blame and we take even a few more seats for the House.

Yep, that’s what the little confab with the MSNBC talking heads was about. Lining up the media to blast the GOP for this and turn the House.

Another crisis that won’t go to waste.

If the media had most of the electorate blaming Bush after four years of this fustercluck, I have no confidence that they'll start blaming the Dems in two more years. Or eight more years. Or perhaps 88.

We have to fight and then we will win the House and Senate in 2014. The huge fallout from continued Obamunism and Obamacare will lead to Tea Party II!

Fight, fight, fight! With all our strength and might!

If you raise the “debt ceiling” every time you hit the debt ceiling, it isn’t really a “debt ceiling”.

And the “debt ceiling” isn’t a physical thing. It is a LAW duly passed by congress, and signed into law by a lawful president, which is based on the constitutional principle that the congress is the body which can borrow money against the credit of the country.

So we aren’t playing a “debt limit” game, we are following the law, which sets the debt ceiling, which is supposed to control how much money we can borrow, and is used by our creditors to decide whether we are a good credit risk.

When we last raised the limit, we lost our AAA rating, because we are a riskier investment. If we raise it again, we’ll lose more rating, unless we put into law a plan to pay back the debt, by controlling our spending.

In only one sense is the debt limit a game — the fact that congress, both republican and democrat, seem to ignore the debt limit when they are putting budgets together, because they don’t propose budgets that keep the nation under the debt ceiling.

I think what they SHOULD do is pass a debt limit that changes based on whatever criteria defines a reasonable debt, like a percentage of GDP, or whatever that measure is. But beyond that, a real change in the debt should require a vote to authorize that debt.

And the House should not play a game either. They should pass a debt ceiling increase now, with the appropriate changes in spending to show they are serious.

The game is all this stupid negotiation stuff. Stop negotiating, and start passing bills. There is a process. House passes bill, senate passes bill, house and senate get together to reconcile bills, then house and senate approve reconciliation, and the president signs or vetoes.

It is stupid to try to circumvent that process by advance negotiations.

“No matter how much he wants to control the debt ceiling he’s sh*t out of luck on that deal,it’s congress that hold the keys to that bus.”

Perhaps you don't know this - part of the bill Hussein wants passed, does away with a spending cap so there would be no more voting to raise it - Hussein can spend whatever he wants if the bill passes with that part still in it. He'll likely use executive orders to spend the money and bypass the House and Senate and with no spending caps, he's on his way.
