President Barack Obama wants to raise the debt limit "without drama or delay," a White House official tells Reuters.
"The President will highlight why it would hurt our economy and our nation's businesses if we do not find a solution to avoid another debt ceiling crisis, and will ask the business leaders for their help in supporting an approach that resolves the debt limit without drama or delay," the anonymous aide tells Reuters.
Republicans fighting the debt limit last go around, according to Reuters, is the reason America's credit was downgraded:
It was the reluctance of congressional Republicans to agree to such an increase in 2011 without deep spending cuts that brought the nation to the brink of default. The result was a historic lowering of the U.S. credit rating and a setback to the recovery from a recession that ended in 2009.
The statutory ceiling on U.S. Treasury borrowing is $16.4 trillion. The nation is expected to hit the legal limit near the year's end, although it can tap emergency measures to stave off a default and keep the government running into early 2013.
..resign ya muslim sh**head
Oh! OK. We’ll instruct McConnell and Boehner to have their troops lay especially flat so they do not pose problematic speedbumps....
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising Americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a Sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Governments reckless fiscal policies. ...Increasing Americas debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here’. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and Grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
- SENATOR BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA (MARCH 2006)
No problem. They can raise it to $16.5T immediately. Anything more than that requires deep spending cuts and entitlement reductions.
Problem solved.
This guy has some nerve. It is sickening to watch him intentionally try to ruin this Country. Newt has a great article out earlier.
Bottom line, shut it down for a while. What the hell, we’ll be blamed anyways.
On taxes, I propose the House immediately passes a bill reducing taxes for everyone under $250,000 by 2% per year and leave top earners alone (Bush rates). The rich will continue to pay more than the masses. We’ll find the offsetting cuts next year.
Send that to Harry and see what happens. They are such big fans of the middle class. How do they turn down a tax reduction, while higher earners pay more?
Hey Barack—If we give up all of our guns, promise to become Muslims, abort all of our babies, fork over our IRA’s & 401K’s, pay half our income in taxes, drive only Chevy Volts, foresake oil, gas, and nuclear energy in favor of solar and wind power, and agree to have bureaucrats solely responsible for every aspect of our own medical care, then will you go away?
Ya. He won’t be around when the fit hits shan.
No. Don’t raise the debt limit. Don’t raise taxes either. Obama does not dictate budget matters. He is not a dictator. That’s why we have checks and balances. Now Boehner. If our nation ever needed a leader it is now. Grow a pair of balls and be the House Speaker.
Sitting in our recliners and punching the remote is not what made this country great. Accepting, wanting, and expecting free stuff from the government isn't either.
Very hard work, a willingness to take risks, and being fiercely independent is what made this country great. The American culture. The American culture that Obama and his ilk are trying to destroy.
We need a really good shake up to remind folks how tough it can get. We have become too complacent and too soft and are too eager to give up our freedoms.
