We are more a part of each other -— the whole chain of our ancestors flowing in from the past, and the whole chain of descendants flowing from us into the future -— more part of each other than we think we are.

And that very odd, mysterious line from Genesis 3:15, where God is talking to the serpent Satan: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and hers: that one will crush your head, and you shall lie in wait for his heel."
The idea of a woman's "seed" was hardly to be thought of in a Bronze Age culture, when a female was seen as a "field" in which a seed was planted, but not as contributing "seed" of her own. In point of fact, I believe the first undisputed observation of the human ovum was made in the 1820's. But way back in Genesis, you had this reference to the "seed" of a woman. The person is to come by the woman, and by her alone, without the concurrence of man. So this is not addressed to Adam and Eve, but to Eve alone; and then, so many generations later, Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. The genetic beginning of the savior who would "crush the serpent's head."
Mysterious. Interesting.

This may explain why Mothers are so close to, and protective of their children.

"We are more a part of each other - the whole chain of our ancestors flowing in from the past, and the whole chain of descendants flowing from us into the future - more part of each other than we think we are." I agree...
And, I feel that way about all living things.

OMG. for 20+ years, my dear sister-in-law has said, "the placenta is made up of the mother's brain cells....which is why the more kids she has, the more kids she has...hahaha"
little did she know...she was smarter than us all.

If I’m reading it correctly it was Joseph who was descended from the line of David. As this was patrilineal, why would any of that matter to a virgin birth?

As I suspected, the “color commentary” on this thread is the Stuff of Legend.
Fasten your seatbelts.

The tie between mother/parent and child is complex and profound and is not to be tampered with.

Since the mechanism of childrens cells being incorporated into matriarchal cells is now established, I am considering that there may be more to this than we even yet know. We may have just scratched the surface of how profound this whole experience is and how fully and carefully God has chosen his words and deeds.

It expands my curiosity. There is much more to be learned about God from all the clues he has left us.

You know what? Life is mysterious.
I don’t think anyone will master those mysteries until they are dead and gone, hopefully to heaven.
It’s so good to hear from you. ;-)
