NBC's Williams Fantasizes Over Change in Constitution Allowing Obama to Control Business by Fiat
NewsBusters ^

Posted on 12/07/2012 5:47:36 PM PST by chessplayer

In an interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook for Thursday's NBC Rock Center, host Brian Williams wondered why the tech giant couldn't be a "made-in-America company" and outlined a political scenario in which President Obama was all-powerful: "Let's say our Constitution was a little different and Barack Obama called you in tomorrow and said, 'Get everybody out of China and do whatever you have to do, make these, make everything you make in the United States.'"

Cook responded by suggesting American workers simply didn't have the capacity to manufacture Apple products: "Over time, there are skills that are associated with manufacturing that have left the U.S., not necessarily people, but the education system stopped producing them."

We can wonder at the ultimate outcome. Just look at Mussolini.

I design printed circuit boards. I get the bare boards made in America (I use a company either in CA or WI), and I have them populated by one of three companies here in the Twin Cities.

Most electronic assembly is very mechanized. Solder paste is stenciled on. The pick and place machines are very fast and cool to see operate. The boards then go through a reflow oven and voila!. Done. It’s cheaper overall (since we have more control over the process) to have them made here.

Perhaps this is why Apple IS starting to move assembly back here to the States.

“Apple is planning to build a $100 million facility in the U.S. next year to build Ipads.”

I’ll bet that they DON’T build it in California. I wouldn’t be surprised if they choose to build in a right-to-work state.

Apple’s data centers are being built in Maiden NC and Prineville OR. I think there are plans for a third one somewhere in Nevada.

Although they’ve just started the new corporate headquarters building (known as the “spaceship”), I’m wondering if they won’t eventually move the company itself from California to a more corporate-friendly state...

If we brought the jobs back the iPhone would be 5x8x1, weigh 1.2 pounds, look like crap and cost 3 grand.

They will park it where ever the state-local governments give them tens of millions in tax abatements. There is probably a bidding war with special tax breaks behind the scenes.

Okay, okay. My frame of reference was the mid to late 70s when I was Mfg. Engineer on dental instruments. I attended a seminar or two on improving soldering, etc. I encountered people from the electronic field who were having fits over automating circuit board wave soldering, etc., and trying to get REPETETIVE DEPENDABLE results. In 1980 I changed career fields and never looked back.

Michigan Poised to Become Right to Work State; Protesters Shout 'Heil Hitler' in Response

The House and Senate each passed bills on the same day they were introduced that give private and public sector workers the right to avoid paying union dues in an organized workplace. Only police officers and firefighters would be exempt.

Lt. Gov. Brian Calley repeatedly gaveled for order during the Senate debate as Democrats attacked the legislation to applause from protesters in the galley. At one point, a man shouted, "Heil Hitler! Heil Hitler! That's what you people are." He was quickly escorted out. Another later yelled, "We will remember in November."

Amazing.

The level of disconnect between what the communist agenda "liberal and progressive" supporters of socialism on a state and national level is beyone measure.

Just yesterday, one of their very same communist agenda "liberal and progressive" national socialists...

Vapid. Stupid.

They are beyond any hope of educating themselves out of the hole they are digging.

Best thing is to let it fail, crash around them in utter destruction and let them starve.

Maybe we can dream that a conservative President tells NBC they must tell the truth at all times or be forced out of business and prosecuted for treason with the penalty of death. Nah. Never happen.

Simple way around that — shut the business down, transfer all the assets, and re-open as a new business.

It was good enough for the ENTERPRISE!

I'm shocked at how much they got right on that 60s show, purely by accident. Economics drove much of the design, as they had a slim budget. I read that the "medical" devices that Bones used, were salt and pepper shakers picked up at a thrift price. They used what was cheaply available, and created function around that. That's what Americans used to excel at, creativity. That spark of creativity is still out there, but our government and educational system stifles it.

Those asians will work 12 hours or more a day on jobs akin to picking fly shit out of pepper for a spoonful of rice, 3 noodles and a fish head. All our people are on gubmint dole.

My gen. 1 iPad, used constantly over several years has a frayed power cable. I checked eBay, and bought not one, but a pack of twenty cables for $10 with free shipping - from China, cheaper than what it costs for one here. I don't know how the heck they can sell them for 50 cents each when cables here sell for $20 or more each. And ship it free across the ocean to me. I received the pack, and the new cables are identical to Apple cables, probably made on the same assembly line. How the heck can we compete with them when they operate on such slim profit margins? I'm making custom docks from the spare cables and selling them for profit. No way I can sell stuff back to them and get profit.

“Form of Fascism.”

I haven’t figured out what the liberals want. Do they want communism or facism? Its a simple question really. They teeter on both. Maybe they will take features of both.

I get those boards built and got cut by stencil the other day.
There ‘s still small manufacturing done here in the States.
