Sheldon Adelson: ‘I’m Basically a Social Liberal’
Wall Street Journal ^ | Dec 5 2012 | Alicia Mundy

Posted on 12/09/2012 12:46:52 PM PST by WilliamIII

In a three-hour interview with The Wall Street Journal, casino mogul Sheldon Adelson excoriated President Barack Obama, Democrats and unions, as one would expect of a top donor to conservatives and Republican causes in the 2012 election.

But the billionaire, sitting with his wife Miriam, an Israel-born physician, shared political beliefs that may leave some surprised.

“Number one, I’m supporting stem-cell research,” he said, pointing to a chart of the new Adelson medical research foundation that is funding some stem-cell based science.

“I’m pro choice,” he said. Republicans are pro-life, but he and his wife are not pro-life in politics, he said.

“You can take your own religious beliefs …and live your life with your own beliefs. But to make it a portion of the government’s policies?” He shook his head.

“Abortion shouldn’t be brought up as a political issue,” he said.

Mr. Adelson continued on his list of liberal leanings.

On immigration: “I’m pro-Dream Act, I’m pro the Dream Act. My parents were immigrants to this country,” he said.

Scratch a social liberal, find a fiscal liberal.

I’ve noticed that a lot of Romney supporters have been sucking up to the Kenyan and his ‘RATS since the “election”. I don’t blame them. Chicago style politics can get pretty rough.

No surprise to those who said so all along.

Months back he said he was funding Gingrich but expected Romney and wanted to make sure it wasn’t Santorum. He didn’t like Santorum’s stance on abortion.

He was Newt’s sugar daddy long before he was Romney’s sugar daddy. Adelson was adamant about getting Santorum out of the picture and Newt let himself be used just long enough to prevent Rick from going head to head with Romney.

Exactly. Someone has to pay for the consequences of social liberalism and it always ends up being the taxpayers via socialistic programs.

He may be a sugardaddy, but he’s our sugardaddy.

We can barely keep FR alive, let alone raise serious cash.

This man is a TRAITOR. I am not using hyperbole- he wants to supplant US Citizen with illegal aliens and then pay low wages and socialize the costs

WE get to pay for HIS billions by providing everything in Espanol and FREE education and FREE medical care etc...

Adelson is WHY Romney backed off his “SELF DEPORTATION” rhetoric after beating Newt in FLA

Socially liberal policy invariably encourages BEHAVIOR that requires EXPENSIVE government help

“gay” liberation gave us AIDS and HIV

Free “love” gave us unwed mothers and taxpayer funded abortion and Sex “education” in public school

DREAM Act treason costs big $$$

...casino mogul Sheldon Adelson excoriated President Barack Obama, Democrats and unions...
..."I don't think it's right that President Obama and the Democrats vote for every two-bit Indian casino proposal that comes down the pike. Other than that, I agree with them on everything, including a giant tax increase on the rich, because, you know, my actual income is pretty low, so is my wife's, and our tax rate won't change much if at all. We can afford the best tax advisers, investment advisers, and accountants."

So the WSJ finally gets around to telling us this? But the VDARE.COM website was on top of this Sheldon Adelson thing months ago. Just a plug for VDARE.COM!

“Sheldon Adelson: ‘I’m Basically a Social Liberal’”

And Koch’s are idiot libertarians like Gary Johnson and Ron Paul.

Some side that we have. It is made up of a lot of Frauds. That is why it is so hard for me to trust anyone.

He also funded Newt. I hope you are not trying to forget that he was backing Newt and was his sugar daddy when Newt should have got out of the primary. I don’t trust Newt anymore than I trust Marco Rubio. Sorry. Both love Amnesty.

Adelson started out backing more conservative candidates and then switched to Gov. Romney only after Gingrich fell out of the race. Romney was not Adelson’s favorite candidate but Adelson did back him, including significant tangible ($) help, when Romney won the nomination.
I’m never going to get 100 percent of what I want in candidates. All in all, I am very tankful to Mr. Adelson for his hard work and generous support in supporting Republican candidates trying to dislodge HusseinO.
Many of us are still smarting from the election loss. Maybe if we can avoid being too harsh in our criticisms of the Republican candidates or the people who stepped up to the plate and backed them (like Adelson), we can regroup and form a more successful campaign next time. Which is something we need to start doing right NOW, in my humble opinion. First priority: making sure Reagan’s 11th Commandment is honored so people seeking the R nomination don’t form a “circular firing squad” as they did in 2012. That’s what caused the R party to lose, not Adelson. Let’s lighten up on Adelson and others who helped us, ok? He did a whole lot more to try to help us than most of the folks you and I meet or speak with (or even many of us who are posting here today?) Thanks

i do not think so

i think Adelson backed Gingrich because he liked Gingrich for a long time

i do understand that Adelson did not want Santorum as the candidate (but then again, he did not want Romney as the candidate, either). SO, would Adelson have backed Santorum had Santorum won the nomination? My guess (and it is ONLY a guess) is yes he would have. Adelson despises HusseinO’s politics...

again, that’s just my guess of what might have happened IF...

I have no sure knowledge one way or the other
