On CBS This Morning on Wednesday, Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward highlighted the internal struggles of the Democratic Party in the ongoing effort to avert the fiscal cliff.
Woodward, the author of The Price of Politics, reminded viewers that President Barack Obama in particular is at odds with Nancy Pelosi and some Democrats in the House.
[Obama] is muscling his way through this, Woodward said. He has to. He has to lead his group. Hes got the problem of the civil war in the Republican Party. Theres a civil war in the Democratic Party. You had Nancy Pelosi on, saying, Oh, were not going to change the eligibility age for Medicare. And down at the White House, they very much want to do that.
CBS This Morning co-host Norah ODonnell said its difficult to imagine Speaker of the House John Boehner finding common ground with the president.
Well, its a necessity, Woodward said. And they realize this is going to dump on everyone. You know, people are sick out in the public saying, You know, why cant they work together? The numbers in a sense dont matter that much. Just fix this and put the country on the trajectory thats sanity.

Bob Woodward is a legend in his own imagination.
If things keep going the way they are there may be a bigger civil war.
never mention no budget for three years
We heard over and over, before the election, such statements as, "They can't possibly win this election ... not with obama's record"
and many like worded statements.
I will admit that, because of those statements, I felt a certain complacency (don't misunderstand, I stayed vocal), and went into the booth REALLY thinking it was a done deal for Romney ... close ... but done.
I suspect EVERY repaort/article that speaks of the rats being fractured, or whatever ... as pure propaganda.
They've been at war with us for 70 years and it's about time we realized it.
A lot of the MSM frenzy in doing so is to postpone the coming larger civil war on the left which the latest in Michigan foreshadows. The honeymoon Obama is currently experiencing will mark his peak IMO.
Party (gubment $$$) now work longer (more years) ping!
Personally I just assume that Pelosi wins and kills the deal, and we got some real spending cuts now.
Hell if Bohner is going to make a deal on taxes in exchange for moving out the Medicare retirement age, I guess we get O-care at 65 instea of medicare, then how about gutting some programs now?
I guess the GOP has decided a Dem must be POTUS to sign a medicare deal.
“If things keep going the way they are there may be a bigger civil war.”
Long overdue, in my opinion. There’s no other way out of this. It will start at the state level, Texas maybe.
Oh puh-leeehze! The White House wants to raise the age for Medicare? Even as they continue to socialize the entire healthcare system? Even as opposing this did as much as anything else to win the election for them?
Believe that one and I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’ll sell ya.
Jefferson, in his "Autobiography," records the following account of what debate was like among America's leading statesmen of that day. The following excerpt might be instructive for today:
"Day after day was wasted on the most unimportant questions. My colleague Mercer was one of those afflicted with the morbid rage of debate, of an ardent mind, prompt imagination, and copious flow of words, he heard with impatience any logic which was not his own.
Sitting near me on some occasion of a trifling but wordy debate, he asked how I could sit in silence hearing so much false reasoning which a word should refute?
I observed to him that to refute indeed was easy, but to silence impossible. That in measures brought forward by myself, I took the laboring oar, as was incumbent on me; but that in general I was willing to listen. If every sound argument or objection was used by some one or other of the numerous debaters, it was enough: if not, I thought it sufficient to suggest the omission, without going into a repetition of what had been already said by others. That this was a waste and abuse of the time and patience of the house which could not be justified.
And I believe that if the members of deliberative bodies were to observe this course generally, they would do in a day what takes them a week, and it is really more questionable, than may at first be thought, whether Bonaparte's dumb legislature which said nothing and did much, may not be preferable to one which talks much and does nothing.
I served with General Washington in the legislature of Virginia before the revolution, and, during it, with Dr. Franklin in Congress. I never heard either of them speak ten minutes at a time, nor to any but the main point which was to decide the question. They laid their shoulders to the great points, knowing that the little ones would follow of themselves. If the present Congress errs in too much talking, how can it be otherwise in a body to which the people send 150. lawyers, whose trade it is to question everything, yield nothing, & talk by the hour? That 150. lawyers should do business together ought not to be expected." - Thomas Jefferson - "Autobiography"

>> Media is doing all they can to create a civil war in the GOP
The pervasive Leftwing component of Media is this Country’s greatest threat.
If the people are willing to put up[ with this cr@p, then they will have no trouble at all loading us onto rail cars.
Fact is if they want to arrest you they will, if they want to try and convict you they will, if they want your guns they will come and get them, it is not 1950 anymore.
"Hey, down there! it's worse than that. I haven't seen anything like it since I was there. It's like the 1850s!"
If you could first know where you are and whither you are tending, you could better judge what to do and how to do it. You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.
The question today is either the opponents of statism will arrest the further spread of it and place it on course of ultimate extinction, or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become permanent.
Have you no tendency to the latter condition?
Let anyone who doubts carefully contemplate the now almost complete legal combination piece of machinery, so to speak compounded of the Republican Party hands-across-the-aisle doctrine and the dreadful actions among statism's chief architects.
The other America.. our elite ruling class New Normal
About to become permanent as the only America?
IMO, it’s a cesspool of rattlesnakes eating their own. At this point, who cares who takes who down. LOL
Yup. Propaganda.
The next civil war will be between private sector workers and gubmint workers (AFSCME). Private sector workers are working their butts off just to stay even-forget about retirement- while the gubmint workers (oxymoron) are retiring at age 55 with fluffy pensions and health care bennies-then double dipping.
The battle began in WI (to a lesser extent in all the right to work states) and is expanding. It will encompass all states eventually, then once we win the battle at the state level, it will go federal. That will be much harder because the feds can print money, but when we can’t borrow any more money because interest swallows up most of the budget, then a reckoning will come, even at the federal level.
The can will be kicked down the road ad infinitum, but the wall will come. All of D.C. knows this. They’re all like Gollum, clinging to the ring.
Protect your family and what assets you have.
What is this? Stand-up comedy?
All they have to do is wait about a month and Boehner will effectively consign the Republican Party to the ash heap of history.
Is there any Democrat...ANYWHERE...SO S-T-U-P-I-D that he or she doesn't know this?
