(Reuters) - Researchers have named a newly discovered, prehistoric lizard "Obamadon gracilis" in honor of the 44th president's toothy grin. The small, insect-eating lizard was first discovered in eastern Montana in 1974, but a recent re-examination showed the fossil had been wrongly classified as a Leptochamops denticulatus and was in fact a new species, researchers told Reuters on Tuesday. Obamadon gracilis was one of nine newly discovered species reported on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In naming the new species, scientists from Yale and Harvard universities combined the Latin "Obamadon" for "Obama's teeth" and "gracilis," which means slender. "The lizard has these very tall, straight teeth and Obama has these tall, straight incisors and a great smile," said Nick Longrich, a paleontologist at the school in New Haven, Connecticut. It was believed to have lived during the Cretaceous period, which began 145.5 million years ago. Along with many dinosaurs from that era, the lizard died out about 65 million years ago when a giant asteroid struck earth, scientists say...

nobama as lizard. Perfect personification!
Yes, my thought too.
Although a grinning, gay lizard is pretty appropriate, Obama relates better to coprolite spreader.
Obamadon sells insurance for GEICO?
The smartest lizard in the room.
“tall, straight incisors and a great smile”
I don’t think so. Everything about him gives me the creeps, including his squinty-eyed toothy grin - the kind you would expect from some kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
How do they know this lizard was blue-pigmented?
"Hey, you forgot to give one to Bill Clinton!"
I was wondering this too. That’s why I pinged SunkenCiv, hoping for an answer. I’ll ping him again.
I seriously expect the left, which is ascendent in all ways right now, to name one of them a SorosSaurus.
Good one. Also see #7.
Seriously. They will claim that many of these prehistoric animals must have been vividly colored, as are many of the animals of today. That's a logical assumption. It makes sense. But it is still a pure, unadulterated guess to claim that Obamadon was blue-pigmented.
But we'll fall for it -- without questioning it -- because we're taught from grade-school that science is entirely factual, and that we're never to question it.
Oh, and you can bank this: these same *scientists* who color the lizard blue no doubt believe in man-made global warming too. I read the entire article. These *scientists* are political hacks. Notice how they named slime-mold beetles after Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld?
Enough said.
Got it. I didn’t read it that far.
The nice gecko from GEICO asks you to buy. The Obamadon orders you to buy or else his T-Rex friend in the IRS eats you.
