NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut/AP) — CBS News is reporting that 27 people are dead, including 18 students, after a mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. The gunman is among the dead.

CBS News’ John Miller reports there is preliminary information that the gunman was the father of one of the students. Miller additionally reports the gunman is 20 years old and is from New Jersey.

The shooter was killed and apparently had two guns, a person with knowledge of the shooting said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. It is not known whether the shooter took his own life or was killed.

CBS News reports that a second person is in custody and that SWAT is now investigating the home of the suspect.

A witness tells WFSB-TV that a second man was taken out of the woods in handcuffs wearing a black jacket and camouflage pants and telling parents on the scene, “I did not do it.”

Fox Connecticut reports that the shooting began in the kindergarten classroom.

“It’s just a bad situation,” Newtown Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Stoyak told CBS 2.

Two students and a teacher were also injured in the shooting and they were taken to Dansbury Hospital, spokeswoman Diane Burke told CBS News York.

You dont think that the libtard media is going to take about 30 seconds to start screaming about gun control over this?

Sure, remember the Arizona shooter who was programmed to kill? Gabby Griffords and her husband Mark refuse to accept the randomness of the event, which nearly ended her life.

Not enough. I still insist the scum that harm or kill others should be kept alive as long as possible and tortured with the maximum pain possible.

Then future scum might focus more on killing themselves rather than other innocents. We can then focus on the means to capture them alive for their much deserved torture.

And I suspect this POS killer showed signs of being capable of this evil and the authorities or other mollycoddler did not act on it.

Such a terrible, and avoidable tragedy.

I shake my head in disgust at the folks that walk around in disbelief wondering how such a thing could happen. There are those among us who shake our heads at this travesty and know full well why it happened.

Society has turned its ugly blind eye away from the senseless murdering of countless unborn children for years, justifying it under the premise of “choice” and a “woman’s right”. Now that we have reached a point where the killing of an innocent unborn child is a matter-of-fact, everyday occurrence, and no big deal, to me it is almost laughable that there are those out there still wondering how this could have happened.

We reap what we have sown.

Anyone capable of targeting innocent children has most likely been utilized by someone seeking political gain. It would surprise me if this was not a political job and about the only other cause would be an islamist killer.

I would not be surprised if this turned out to be a result of bullying in the classroom.

I cannot imagine what other circumstance would make a parent do this.

Do you also think it not proper for the left media to jump on the gun control subject immediately? (this is not sarcasm)

On Wikipedia it says this about Beslan
On September 1, 2004, Beslan’s Secondary School No. 1 was seized by a group of at least thirty-two Islamist terrorists related to the Second Chechen War. The siege ended on September 3 with a bloody shootout between the terrorists and the Russian security forces. According to official data, 334 civilians were killed, 186 of them children, and hundreds more wounded. All but one of the hostage-takers were killed. The survivor was arrested. He was tried and convicted and sentenced to imprisonment.

I’m not giving up my right to defend myself because some person decided to become a mass murderer.

I’m just not.

A person can assault a person with any weapon, including his fist, a brick, a dinner fork.

The problem is that people are batsh!t crazy, and there isn’t any remedy to that.

re: “. . . but the correct lesson is there for anyone with a brain—homeschool.”

And I thought the gun-grabbers were quick to use this as an opportunity to demonize gun owners. Some of you so-called homeschool advocates are just as bad on demonizing every single negative story about public or even private schools.

The REAL lesson here is concealed weapons carry should be allowed everywhere - churches, schools, stores, - EVERYWHERE!

Do you really think that there have never been homeschooled kids murdered in their own homes?

Remember that there are over 100,000 public schools with over 3,000,000 teachers/staff. Out of that many, don’t you think the odds are good in a number that size that there are bound to be at least some crazy teachers, parents, or principals??

Give the homeschool thing a rest on this story - it’s concealed carry that’s needed.

STD, how appropriate a name, let’s not start this trollish behavior worthy of a DU thread starring Alex whats-his-name from infowars and Charlie Sheen.

The lib politicians and pundants will get their mileage from the exploitation of him having a gun, no matter how easy the targets were, thanks to libs everywhere.

But if you are insinuating a conspiracy including the Gov’t in this murderous rampage then you are an idiot.
