Flashback: Aspies, You Are Not Alone (NY Times tribute to Asperger Syndrome)
NY Times ^ | 2/24/2011 | ALBERT LIM KOK HOOI

-snip-

You are different and you are special. Beethoven, Mozart, Michelangelo, Thomas Edison and Mark Twain possibly had Asperger Syndrome. So had my intellectual ancestor, Charles Darwin. Woody Allen and Bill Gates probably have it. So did Michael Jackson, a source of great inspiration to me and others. Call it genetic, call it developmental, it does not matter. Many proud Aspies and I stand with you.

Apparently it would be quicker to list the great people who did not have it.

If you want an interesting read, try A First Class Madness by Nassir Ghaemi.

The link between genius and madness has long been known and this book shows how it influenced our recent history.

People who have challenges have to struggle enough just learning to accept themselves, let along be a danger to others.

I think blaming Asperger’s here is very, very wrong.

Children with Asperger’s cannot help it. They are not demons.

This would have helped to those of us with ... never mind;

"Asperger's syndrome, also called Asperger's disorder, is a type of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).

PDDs are a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many basic skills, most notably the ability to socialize with others, to communicate, and to use imagination.

Although Asperger's syndrome is similar in some ways to autism -- another, more severe type of PDD -- there are some important differences. Children with Asperger's syndrome typically function better than do those with autism.

In addition, children with Asperger's syndrome generally have normal intelligence and near-normal language development, although they may develop problems communicating as they get older.

I have a worse version in the same cluster, Schizoid(ism), yet do not go around murdering Kindergartners (anything but). Pray for the victims.

Actually Aspergers Syndrome has now been removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Apparently these people are just rude.

It wasn’t removed, it was just placed under the umbrella of autism spectrum disorders.

Liberals are in overdrive in seeking to blame others for the CT shooting.

Was it the guns’ fault or Aspergers Syndrome’s fault?

Of course they won’t blame Adam Lanza for what he did to those children and teachers because liberals never hold criminals responsible for their own decisions and actions.

Who can forget the "ladies" on 'The View' trying to make excuses for that poor, stressed-out young mother who drowned her four kids in the bathtub.

Gads...

” I advocate the tolerance of neurodiversity as much as the promotion of cultural diversity. I will talk to you about autistic rights and autistic pride movements. “

‘Neurodiversity’?

All fine and good..but if the person is violent crazy..they need to be put away in a mental hospital!! Liberals don’t want to talk about that though...they don’t believe in putting crazies in homes.

I've seen Asperber's close up...*very* close up.Two cases,in fact. The two I've seen have been very tragic cases...so bad that they approach Rain Main is terms of cluelessnes. No murders or anything,but...

Nothing to be "proud" of for either of them.
