Cuomo: We Must ‘Crack Down on the Guns’ in Wake of Connecticut Shooting
politicker.com ^ | December 14, 2012 | Colin Campbell

In one of the worst school shootings in American history, over two dozen were left dead at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school earlier today. And, although many facts have yet to emerge, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called for the public to learn from “yet another senseless and horrific act of violence involving guns,” and for the government to act in response.

“We as a society must unify and once and for all crack down on the guns that have cost the lives of far too many innocent Americans,” Mr. Cuomo said in a statement. “Let this terrible tragedy finally be the wake-up call for aggressive action and I pledge my full support in that effort.”

Mr. Cuomo, of course, is not the only prominent New Yorker to call for new gun control measures, and elected officials’ press releases have been pouring in, both expressing their sympathy and pushing for new policies to slow the flow of illegal guns. Manhattan Congressman Jerry Nadler announced he was “challenging President Obama, the Congress, and the American public to act on our outrage and, finally, do something about this,” for example. Similarly, Speaker Shelly Silver tacked more broadly, declaring, “If ever there is a time to finally have a serious discussion about our country’s culture of violence that time is now.”

View Mr. Cuomo’s full reaction below:

“I was shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School this morning in Newtown, Connecticut. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the innocent victims – many of whom were young children – whose lives were claimed by this senseless and horrific act of violence. During times of such unthinkable tragedy, all New Yorkers stand together with the people of our neighboring state to grieve the loss of life and help bear the pain and anguish that will be felt by so many in the weeks, months, and years to come.

“While we don’t have all the facts and our focus must be on the victims, this is yet another senseless and horrific act of violence involving guns. We as a society must unify and once and for all crack down on the guns that have cost the lives of far too many innocent Americans. Let this terrible tragedy finally be the wake-up call for aggressive action and I pledge my full support in that effort.”

This makes a great deal of sense. Making guns just as illegal as marijuana, heroin, and cocaine (possession of ANY amount including residue in a pipe is a jailtime felony) pretty much ended the issue of those drugs in America.

What could go wrong? What- a big time black market feeding guns and ammo to criminals while decent citizens are jailed? Grow up, that could never happen!

lol

Think of the future as a boot, endlessly trampling a human face.

Thousands of one room school houses across the nation were kept safe by a shotgun standing in the corner, over these last 100 years.

Perhaps visit a school district in Israel?

The duty of teachers is to keep children safe at school, they stand in loco parentis. That danger now includes shooters who would enter the school and kill students. The answer, and the only answer of any American who has an ounce of sense is to arm teachers and make sure they are trained to discharge their duty to keep students safe.

Its just that simple.Meanwhile Cuomo thinks that disarming law abiding citizens is the answer, so that they too will be victims to the next crazy a$$hole who comes along armed?..... Making Americans all into sheep who must depend on others for self defence, one of the most basic human rights of any civilized nation?

Alex Jones has it right:

Mr. Cuomo is surrounded by armed guards, armed drivers, armed security etc...He's surrounded by guns, but wants innocent law abiding people to be disarmed and unprotected.

I really dislike people like this AH.

Posted this re-post from another site earlier:

Why have most of these tragedies only occurred recently?

Repeating firearms have existed for over 150 years – the Colt revolver for example.

Why didn’t those kinds of massacres occur 150… 120.. 100 years ago?

Why didn’t these tragedies occur back when select fire – fully automatic weaponry were easily available?

Why do these tragedies almost always occur in “Gun-Free” zones – where the law-abiding are denied the right of self-defense?

And why do they happen a lot of the time in heavily Democratic states with that already have tight gun-control laws?

May the unrepentant 2nd Amendment traitors, especially the leftstream media anti-gun advocates and political leaders who took away the right of school administrators and teachers to defend their students, burn in hell twice as long as the piece of excrement that committed these murders.

Oh Yeh all the Libs are frothing at the bit. Maybe this is their big chance to grab the guns and then finally put the jackboot on all of us low level terrorists and bitter clingers.

That dog is not going to hunt. The mood of the country is definitely not for gun control and both houses of Congress are well aware of it. Dems and Pubbies.

If BHO tries some BS executive order to ban black rifles he is likely to set off CWII. Maybe thats what he wants who knows? I would put nothing past the man and his puppet masters.

Guns are NOT the problem. Crazy people are the problem. The MSM is the other problem—sensationalizing the crimes and criminals.

Nadler’s got a lot of gall to open his fat trap...he was a supporter of pardons for Weather Underground terrorists Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg who were involved in the 1981 Brinks armored car robbery that resulted in the murder of the Brinks guard and two Nyack NY police officers and left 9 children fatherless. Rosenberg was also an arms smuggler, caught finally in 1984 after being on the run from the robbery and she was known for shouting “long live the armed struggle!” when she was captured. Nadler in payment for using his spot on the judiciary committee to hobble the impeachment proceeedings against Clinton, was rewarded by Clinton with the pardons of these two Castro-loving terrorists. Evans still had 24 years left to serve of her sentence when pardoned and Rosenberg still had 42 years to serve of hers. See:

The politicans need to give up armed police and body guards if they are going to treat the public as all potential criminals. They are criminals, too. They don’t need to be protected by gun.

But the libs are perfectly OK with murdering innocent Americans, the most defenseless of babes- in "clinics."

A far left loon preaching about life ... what a hypocrite.

And now we enter the phase of a tragic shooting when gun control fanatics shoot their mouths off and talk us to death.
