Gunman had "altercation" with school staff day before masssacre
NBC News ^ | December 15, 2012 | Tracy Connor

The gunman in the Newtown massacre had an "altercation" with four staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School the day before he killed 20 children, six adults and himself there, Connecticut and federal officials told NBC News Saturday.

Three of the four staff members were killed Friday in one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. The fourth staff member was not at school that day and is being interviewed by federal and state investigators, NBC News’ Pete Williams said.

Two days before that, Adam Lanza, 20, went to a sporting goods store in Danbury, Conn., and tried to purchase a rifle, but was rebuffed because the state has a waiting period for gun sales, the officials said.

“I’ve looked at many of these ‘crying’ Obama pictures today and have not seen one...not one..where there are real tears! “
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have tried to avoid commenting on his speech thus far-—other than to say the obvious-—how it will be used to confiscate our guns.
“That campaign left the launchpad today with Obama’s presser, and reason will not stop it.
His speech will be played ad nauseum and mythologized for the next decade.”
(which, BTW, is what I believe it was designed to do-—open the campaign)
It’s a good thing you didn’t hear the CNN talking heads’ after-comments on the presser. You would have booked you Sanity Island vacation while they were speaking.
I want to see a close shot frame by frame to look for a tear-—or even watery eyes. He didn’t even seem emotional to me.
In less than 4 minutes:
6 wipings of outer corner of eye with finger
1) 1:01 - 5-10 yr olds
2) 1:20 - weddings
3) 1:30 - teachers
4) 2:00 - innocence
5) 3:00 - need all of us right now
6) 3:05 - Americans
4 pregnant pauses
2 furrowed chins
When I watched it the first time live, it reminded me of that clip of Bill Clinton walking and laughing with a companion after Ron Brown’s funeral...until he saw that a camera was on him. Then he feigned grief.
I’m sure the tragedy saddened him and that he thought of his own children, but the speech was for political effect.
Carney had made an earlier statement and paved the way, but then said something to the effect, “Of course this isn’t the day to discuss those matters” (which is exactly what he had just done!).
The reprobate just can’t help himself.
These claims have been unsubstantiated and debunked. Latest update is:
1) shooter did not have any kind of prior altercation with anyone at the school;
2) shooter did not try to buy a gun earlier in the week;
3) shooter used "the long gun" in rampage as per the CT medical examiner.
Wow. Do you have links for those points? IIRC, the first two were just published today with multiple sources. How can press still be getting it SO wrong?
Look, I saw a bit of the speech live and in those few minutes (I can only stand so much), O had tears by his left eye, outer. That I know.
You can speculate he somehow cooked them up, but they were there. I’m tired of us nay-saying every single insignificant nugget from liberals; we just look ridiculous doing so.
Watched entire speech on video 6-7 times. Will watch it a few more times. Not disputing what you saw, but I saw no tear.
If it were an insignificant nugget, I wouldn’t bother. It may become his most important speech ever (of his administration), second only to the Cairo speech (and most people didn’t pay enough attention to that one either).
To #20. Lanza’s killing his mother and then the teachers/administrators and school children makes a lot of sense to a damaged mind.
His mother was the prime target, but then he “projected” his hatred for her onto anyone who worked with her or were in her classes (or any classes at the school). Thus he kept “killing” his mother eventhough they were totally innocent and not socially connected to her.
Only after he did his killing did Lanza realize that he was the last living link to his mother so he had to kill himself in order to sever that emotional/mental link.
The psychological term is “projection” meaning projecting one’s own fears, hates, likes onto others who may have been close, rejected them, were in the proximity of those people, or who had a direct connection to them.
Paranoid schizophrenics do this all the time, even if the people, events, and perceived threats, insults, turn-downs never happened in reality.
Holding a grudge is like taking poison, and expecting the other person to die.
May I respectfully suggest you remind your wife that each teacher should be trained and equipped to protect their students.
Any teacher who is unable or unwilling to protect their students should find another line of work.
Any parent who has a school where teachers can not or will not protect their students should consider alternatives.
Yeah I saw it too and mentioned so in another thread. Didn’t go back to read any replies because they were probably nasty. People, the fact is, it’s OKAY to admit Obama can shed a tear. I know you don’t want to humanize our hated wanna be dictator-but it’s OKAY to state that we saw a tear in his eye... and does not mean that we are now on “his side.” I’m growing weary of the right. I’ve always been a right leaning conservative because I’m attracted to the level-headedness and common sense of the viewpoints and the people. Sorry to say some of us are becoming just as irrational, pig headed and mean as the left has been.
Too fast!
Usually takes a lot longer.
Also, how long did it take for the authorities to get there?
Now my spider sense meter is pegging....
I blame the Mom in some of this; she had guns at home, taught him how to shoot, etc. Knowing he had mental disorder, was a Goth, etc. She was selfish. She should have not had guns in the house. She knew her son was unstable. Yes, she had a right to own and use guns, but if I knew my kid had some issues, I WOULD not have any guns in the housen or at least none that he would know about.
I surmise, looking at this Kid that he was probably bullied a lot, mad fun of, etc. I surmise that he was spoiled.
Why didn’t the school call the police and get xtra protection or go to the student’s house and pay a visit to the mother?
Smells like a motive.
I did read the investigators had a definite line on a motive but declined to discuss it as yet.
He didn't so much murder his mother to take her guns, but murdered her with her own gun. I wonder if she kept them locked up away from him but he found them, or if she actually did trust him with the guns around? People often are not realistic about what others are capable of. She had to have known he wasn't right in the head but just could not conceive of him harming her?
