Boehner offers to take debt limit off the table
Washington Post ^ | 16 Dec 2012 | Lori Montgomery and Paul Kane

House Speaker John A. Boehner has offered to push any fight over the federal debt limit off for a year, a major concession that would deprive Republicans of leverage in the budget battle but is breathing new life into stalled talks over the year-end “fiscal cliff.”

The offer came Friday, according to people in both parties familiar with the talks, as part of the latest effort by Boehner (R-Ohio) to strike a deal with President Obama to replace more than $500 billion in painful deficit-reduction measures set to take effect in January.

With the national debt already bumping up against the $16.4 trillion cap set last year, Congress risks a government default unless it acts to raise the debt ceiling in the next few months.

Many Republicans had argued that party leaders should use the threat of default to demand additional spending cuts from Obama. But Boehner’s offer would head off that potentially nasty fight — at least until the end of next year.

I don’t know. According to the media Boehner has folded on everything yet Obama hasn’t accepted.

That sounds to me like Boehner is winning the Kabuki dance this time.

Hard to believe I know.

Boner can’t talk so we will always lose with him as the speaker.

He really did not have the debt increase on the table. Obama’s media slaughtered Republicans with that last time and we ended up with the fiscal cliff.

Boner does not want bammy blaming the jump off the cliff on him. But since he can’t talk, no one will know what compromises he’s made to appease Dear Reader. The bamster does not care if America goes off a cliff or not. He gets his cuts to the miliatry and Republicans get blamed by the media. Boner knows that.

It’s taking Conservative, Christian Americans too long to realize this has gone way beyond politics. Actually this is a process that is gaining momentum built up for several years. It is identified as loss by the Republican party only because more Republicans identify with morality and Christian principles. The Republicans are becoming irrelevant simply because their values and principles are being rejected by the majority of Americans. Politics no longer has anything to do with it.

Boehner will try to make the Republican party more acceptable by abandoning the values that they have always stood to preserve; which are actually common sense, faith based principles of good stewardship.
The fact is that most American citizens have fallen into the opposite category and will not stand for anyone or anything that interferes with their right to practice and partake of anything they desire even if it goes against nature or basic principles of right and wrong. Liberal Democrats have gained power by appealing to every base, carnal and sluggardly faction of this society and won. There will be no more Conservative political parties like Republicans once were. This leaves the few Americans who have any morals or Christian values left at the mercy of a totally corrupt and godless society much like Lot in the Bible. That’s nothing new in the history of the Earth.

The choice between Liberal and Conservative is no longer the choice before us. No one can consent to uphold the doctrine of devils and save their country, their political party or their soul.

The GOP is dead to me. Third party from here in.

I don't like the libertarian social policies, but as long as none of my taxes go to clean up the mess that results from them, I can live with it. Just free me from any responsibility of other peoples actions.

Yeah. The RINOs leave us no one to vote FOR. At least the libertarians would get the government off our backs and out of our pockets.

If this fiscal crap doesn't help the tax slaves this time, we're out. Enough BS already.

Not to defend Boehner here but if Obunghole figures he has him on the ropes and goes for the kill only to get sucker punched in the bread basket.

So, Boehner offers some relief on the debt limit trying to get some traction and Obunghole goes for it all and blows the whole thing sky high. Beohner can step back and say we gave and gave and it still wasn’t enough for him. So we are out...all the way out. Let it burn.

Just a thought. I may be whistling past the graveyard but....

“Boehner just folded.”

And this surprises anyone?

In the long run, though, it’s good news. Another couple of years with “leadership” like this and the gop will go the way of the whigs. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

“We are witnessing the death of the Republican party.”

We should be so lucky! Whatever follows it will be better. A political party run by three-year olds would be an improvement over the gop.

Is this borderline libel against Boehner by the Washington Post (Unnamed sources) or is the Speaker seriously folding?

Based upon his past track record, I would say the chances of him folding are at 100%. We already did this 16 months ago. At that time, Boehner gave up $2.5 trillion in new debt over a 19 month period in exchange for a promise that $100 billion in spending would be cut over the next fiscal year.

Here we stand 16 months later. The $2.5 trillion will last only 17 months - two months short of the duration promised. The $100 billion in cuts never materialized. And the President stands at the door asking for a spending INCREASE. And not once have I heard Boehner utter a word of this reality.

The ONLY tool Boehner has at this point is to deny a debt ceiling increase. It is the same tool he freely gave away sixteen months ago, and it is the same tool he will give away now.

As I have said before, the purpose of the RINOcrats is to make sure that the Democrats get everything they want, while putting up an appearance of tough negotiation, and posturing. They help to keep the authentic conservatives outside the room, so as not to have any real negotiation. Hence the recent purges.

Oh, they also make some tough sounding speeches now and then to keep the sheeple pacified back home... not too many tough speeches, we do not want the sheeple to get too excited.

Boehner has sided with the unconstitutional fascists? Buahahahahahahahah! But Boney swore to defend and uphold the constitution as his solemn oath of orifice!!!!

Boehner is a dead man walking in the Senate. No conservative will even speak to him from here on out.

Let the government go over the fiscal cliff. The rest of us will make do but government will have to reduce itself and
have no new toys. I like that. I like anything that hurts the federal government. Sequestration HO!

“Boehner just folded. This was his ace in the hole, and he just surrendered it.”

Will he do the same when the dems push next for new gun control legislation?

“We are witnessing the death of the Republican party.”

Quite likely.

What will this surrender do for the Republicans in the 2014 mid-terms?

With each successive misstep, the Pubbies are marginalizing themselves into a “non-party”, same as the Whigs.

They have lost the status of being a national party, and are slipping into that of a regional party.

If they keep it up, they will soon find themselves as “the third party” — after something else has arisen to replace them...

Many millions of eligible voters did not vote for President this election cycle.

If the GOP want's to win elections in the future, it will have to field candidates that are actually conservative....

I wish what you say were true, I really do. Unfortunately, your theory doesn't really add up. Those people that don't vote tend to be what pollsters just refer to as "adults". And that population of non voting folks tend to support Obama and the Democrats even more than the people who turned out. Infact "adults" who don't actually vote are Obama's most supportive demographic.

Just being more conservative is not going to win elections for us. I know a lot of people want to hang on to that bit of wishful thinking, but there is no actual evidence that is true. It's going to take more than just being more pure. We are going to need excellent candidates that stand for big things. My guess is the party will emphasize fiscal/economic issues and move away from discussing social issues.

There just isn't a silent majority of decent, traditional Americans to rise up and fight the left anymore. There are some of us, sure, but we are no longer a majority.

“So no, Boehner isn’t the main problem. He’s not charismatic and not persuasive, but it is unlikely anyone else could take over and do much better at this particular point in time. The problem is, the public agrees with Obama and the Democrats more than us. There is not a silent majority of traditional Americans out there ready to rise up and save the republic. That time has passed. We are a European social welfare state now, and will likely follow Greece’s path down the crapper.”

Can’t really argue with anything you wrote. America is turning away from freedom, from its traditions, heritage and its past, and there’s not much traditional Americans can really do about it.

In view of recent events (which occurred only a few miles away from me), looks like the fight to preserve the Second Amendment is in serious trouble, as well.

When I see your posts, I pay close attention. In view of what you wrote above, what do believe is left for conservatives in America? What would you do, for yourself and those close?
