Last week, fighters from a group that the Obama administration has branded a terrorist organization were among rebels who seized the Sheik Suleiman military base near Aleppo, where research on chemical weapons had been conducted. Rebels are also closing in on another base near Aleppo, known as Safirah, which has served as a major production center for such munitions, according to U.S. officials and analysts.
The opposition Free Syrian Army said it did not find any chemical weapons at the first installation.

“...a group that the Obama administration has branded a terrorist organization were among rebels who seized the Sheik Suleiman military base near Aleppo”...but that same Al Qaeda-in-Iraq affiliate “said it did not find any chemical weapons”...and WaPo’s journalists report this without a hint of irony...or horror!

Assad vs. Islamists is like Hitler vs. Stalin. Let them fight it out.
As for chemical weapons - are they really such good terrorist weapons? I would imagine they are bulky and not easily transported. The forms that Assad has probably need to be fired from guns or dropped from airplanes.
The best defense would again be simply banning travel to the USA for anyone from 15 or so M.E. or North African countries.

"Chemical weapons??? Where did they get chemical weapons???" ...a question you will never hear from the state controlled media.
To: BenLurkin
That’s why Ghadaffi’s weapons were being shipped via Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia to specifically-Islamist (not secular) “resistance” groups in Syria.
In four years’ time America has gone from being the good guys to being the bad guys who help arm other bad guys.
Sick.

So now, the syrian “rebels” that we armed in Bengazi, also known as Al Queda have nerve gas.
Wonderful. Too bad we can’t question the person in charge of that fiasco of a gun running deal, she fell down and went boom...
This New World Order bunch is like arsonists in charge of security in Straw villages. We are from the Goobermint and we are here to keep you safe and warm.

"Meanwhile, the U.S. government and some European allies have hired private contractors to train Syrian rebels how to monitor and secure chemical weapons sites should Assad abandon or lose control of any of his stocks, according to CNN. A State Department spokeswoman declined to comment on the report."
Private contractors. Where have I recently heard that?
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

From my inbox:
Beneath all the lies surrounding the horrific terrorist attack that killed a U.S. Ambassador and heroic SEALs in Libya the truth is hiding and OPSEC needs your help to get to the bottom of it. On Thursday, December 20th, at 1:00PM EST, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a hearing on the Benghazi attack with testimony from key Obama Administration officials involved in the attack. They will answer direct questions from Members of Congress who are on the committee and the public. The House Committee on Foreign Affairs will read all questions suggested through through their website, and attempt to seek answers to as possible during the proceedings. OPSEC has some very specific questions that still need to be answered and we are asking all of our supporters to suggest one of OPSEC's questions or submit a similar questions of there own. Here are five sample questions OPSEC would like to see Obama Administration officials answer, on the record, about the Benghazi attack: Why did four Americans have to die in Benghazi? Why did the Obama Administration refuse repeated requests for additional security from US personnel on the ground in Libya prior to the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack? Who made the decision to refuse timely aid to the Americans in harm's way at both the embassy and annex while the attack was occurring? Has the administration told the whole truth to the American people both during the attack and in statements after? Do you believe the decision to do nothing was a bad decision knowing that assets were available that could have changed the outcome of the situation? Don't wait. Demand your answers today! http://foreignaffairs.house.gov/about/ask/

...a question you will never hear from the state controlled media.
The question is routinely asked and answered in the media, it's just that you don't like (or ignore) the answer.
This article itself mentions a research facility and a production facility.
So the current Syrian stockpile consists largely of chemical weapons they manufactured themselves. They got a bit of a kick-start from weapons tranferred from Egypt, Libya, and the Soviet Union in the 70s and 80s, however.
