School boards make decisions all the time that affect the safety of the kids.

True, but we weren't talking about general rules, but the specific one of having the inalienable Right to defend ourselves and those around us, and the acknowledged, 'enumerated' right to do so with a firearm.

Do you think the government has the legitimate authority to draw 'lines in the sand' around our Rights?

It is unacceptable to permit the faculty of mega-schools to be defenceless and unable to protect themselves and our children entrusted to their care.

But this thought seems to be ignored.

On the other hand, I don't think this problem would arise in either home-schooling or one room school systems.

A very fine teacher once gave me a very cogent argument for one room school systems versus the mega-school campus. (One room to 8th grade. Then trade school or college prep for those who go on. "Graduates" of the current system, on the average, probably don't have the equivalent attainments of the 8th grader of 100 years ago. Those that don't go on provide the unskilled labour force, but they could always gain further education later on if motivated to.)

Not only that, the mega-school is an artifact of an outmoded 18th century mechanistic socio-political viewpoint (aka socialism). The giant school system is based on the model of mass-production and interchangeable parts ala Eli Whitney.

I suppose that is an OK system for cookies. But it is no good for people. A cookie cutter education is not an education.

There are many other considerations of what is wrong such that these monstrosities occur, but this is, imho, one element.

Texas State Senator Dan Patrick may be the goto guy on CHLs for teachers. All of his staff have their CHLs and carry every day.

I would get hold of his office and see what he is prepared to do this session.

Fact is, there are more than a few teachers in Texas already packing, whether the local school board. city, state or federal government likes it or not. Given the fact that the public school system caters to illegals and associated gang activity, I would be packing too if I were teaching in one of those hellholes.

IMHO they need to lift the restrictions on CHL holders on school properties period.

For my job, I have to go do inspections of schools, mostly in less than stellar neighborhoods, and I hate having to disarm to do it.

According to Students for Conceal Carry on Campus, in 2011 the following legislators put forward bills for college campuses, they would likely also be the ones to push for conceal on schools in 2013: ■Representative David Simpson (R-Longview) ■Senator Jeff Wentworth (R-San Antonio) ■Representative Joe Driver (R-Garland) ■Representative Van Taylor (R-Plano) ■Representative Lance Gooden (R-Athens) ■Representative Joe Driver (R-Garland)

Attacking Perry is silly.

Answer me this: How come the Harrold ISD in Texas has let its teachers conceal carry on campus ever since 2008. I have even heard its Superintendent interviewed on a radio talk show about the local district policy.

IF, IF this was against the law of the state of Texas, wouldn’t the state have stopped the Harrold ISD from doing this?

I haven’t followed the current state law, but I had always had the impression that it was a federal law creating “gun-free school zones”. I could have misconstrued that, but that aside, I have not heard a single soul claim that Harrold ISD is violating the law and should be stopped.

I suggest the real crime at Sandy Hook was no guns in the school to keep the shooter from killing those children. The answer for state legislatures in to require 3 licenced teachers or administrators to maintain their weapons in that school in a special safe with the combination known only to them and the superintendent of school. We must see that those teachers are licensed and trained. Ex military should be favored in selection. To have a gunless response was a criminally negligent act in the schools. There is nothing more precious than our beloved children and we must be ready to defend them.

So, were you intending to claim that Perry had to do something to change state law or else THESE FOLKS need to be stopped and/or jailed??

Hmmmmm?????

Texas school (and others) have armed teachers, administrators, reject “gun free” attitudes

Do you have a concealed carry license? Can you carry on a campus?

Let me answer this for you....NO you can not.

So evidently you do not have a CCW and do not follow the law. I do not know have Harrold ISD gets around it or if they are just blowing smoke.

So if Senor Perry want Joe Citizen that has a CCW (which he eluded to in his jaw flapping) to be able to carry on a school campus, HE and our elected officials MUST amend the laws on the books.

There are laws on the books that would have to be modified,

Here in West Virginia, modifying laws on the books is a job for the Legislature, not the Governor. Perhaps you do things differently in Texas ...

The Governor initiates what happens in the legislature. If you think he just sits around and waits for bills to pass and be signed, I believe you may be mistaken.

Of course, in West Virginia they may do things differently, perhaps. We expect our Governor to do something.

The Governor initiates what happens in the legislature.

Which has led to no end of mischief.

We expect our Governor to do something.

I'm all in favor of federalism ... each state should be different.

I wouldn't mind, actually, if our Governor spent all his time sittin' on his front porch pickin' his banjo ...

Dang, I may move to West Virgina and run for Governor if that was the case.

Cannot play the banjo but I can learn....

Met one of your Governors in a hotel one time. He was having a party. A bud and I invited ourselves on over. Free booze and loose women. Back in the mid 90’s. Heck of a good time was had by all. My bud had to use the in flight bag on the trip home the next morning several times.

My idea is to have gun in a locked compartment right next to every fire alarm. Have one sound for a fire alarm, one for storms and one for cooks with guns. When the trained teachers, trained janitors and maybe even trained students here gun shots they run to the nearest station, unlock the gun and go kill the bastard.

You could even tie the safes together electronically, so if one was opened, the special “prep with a gun” alarm would sound.
