Detroit’s city council is a minstrel show.
“...there ought to be a quid pro quo.”
I have no problem with that as long as 0bama uses his own money, not ours.
I live in the Detroit metropolitan area. Personally, I don’t think Dennis Archer fell into the same camp with Young and Kilpatrick. If anything, he may not have been considered ‘black enough’ by Detroiters. I never observed the same degree antagonism that suburbanites often got from Kilpatrick and, especially, King Coleman.
I’d liken Archer more to Bing than these other two.
Just one guy’s opinion...
I remember a black friend in my high school days almost fifty years ago. Other blacks jumping on him and beating him, because he hung out with white kids and wanted to better himself. The problem is that peer pressure is great on these kids, keeping them down wth the ghetto mentality. If they want to change, they’ve got to get out of Detroit. (Unfortunately for my friend, he drowned in an accident - a good guy who lived in a ghetto.)
Must be a b!tch finally owning the plantation without knowing how to plant cotton.
>>Kilpatrick (2002-2008) went to jail and is on trial today on charges of corruption. <<
Truth be told, in many/most Black communities that guarantees re-election in a run after the sentence finishes.
Walter can say it all he wants, the liberals will still not figure out how it went wrong.
Zimbabwe Syndrome. Or, the Liberia Malaise. Or, the South Africa Effect. Or...
Whatever it is, it’s the fault of a capitalist white man keeping the brother down. They’re just not quite sure where the last capitalist white man in Detroit is, just now.
In another generation or two all of the major cities will be majority black and brown with the populations subsisting on government handouts.
There are many cities already following closely down the path Detroit has blazed.
In the cattle industry places like Detroit are called ‘Holding Pens’.
I thought "death a week Dayton" was bad, but Detroit is a death a day place.
As Thomas Sowell has pointed out, immigrant Irish took the political route to success; immigrant Italians took the economic route to success (that doesn't include the Mafia). Of the two groups of immigrants, Italians did much better. There aren't all that many in public office, but they own businesses and hold good jobs.
Left out of the Coleman Young equation/history is the fact that he was a hardcore member/supporter of the Communist Party USA most of his life. That explains why his marxist policies failed and brought Detroit to its knees.
Other CP connected Detroit politicians included City Council members/presidents Maryann Mahaffery and Erma Henderson, plus a few others who were only Council members.
Leftist liberals who also contributed to the destruction of Detriot include Sen. Carl Levin (who once gave the key to the city to a Soviet KGB operative, Romesh Chandra) and his brother, Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich).
The people of Detroit got, as one poster said, just what they voted for. And the bodies keep piling up.
