Heres the latest from Conor Sweeney, Ryans spokesman: Chairman Ryan will continue to work to protect as many Americans as possible from tax hikes. Chairman Ryan believes that Speaker Boehners Plan B meets that criteria.
We didn’t send you to Washington to compromise, Paul.
Drinking the water in DC makes one stupid.
If the House leadership had any cojones at all, they would say to Obama and the Senate:
We will not vote for any increases un the debt limit whatsoever unles the GWB tax rates are made permanent. We don’t care if the federal government shuts down. In fact we would welcome it. The polls be damned.
Taxes will go up because the President keeps moving the goal post. He needs them to go up so his Obamacare taxes are somewhat hidden from the average citizen.
Silly. Raise the damn taxes on the rich. They voted for Obama ..give it to them good and hard.
If a bunch of east and west coast rich elites don’t want their money why fight a battle for them. It’s like fighting for freedom in a Muslim country. Pearls before swine.
I am no Ryan or Bohner defender but this is by far the BEST move they can make, extend them for $99.8% and dare Dems to oppose it
Republicans cannot make themselves the middle class tax raisers(which O gets to spend yet) , that is suicide. They tried that exactly a year ago with FICA and it was a disaster.
Let Pelosi Dems vote against this bill which will be to raise our taxes, that is what they want anyway.
“WHERE ARE THE CUTS?”
The Republican strategy might be to give Obama a choice of Plan B or the Cliff. The Democrats will be in a bad position either way. They would be responsible for going off the Cliff, or the if they accept Plan B the ball will be in their court to do something on the spending side.
I’m confortable with standing pat with Plan B.
I think the proposal is interesting as well.
It saves a whole slew of middle class business people from taxes (restaurant and fast food franchise owners will breathe a huge sigh of relief for example) and Obama will be forced to compromise.
Bonehead can propose anything but it is not going anywhere and he knows it.
Palin was right on her 2012 CPAC speech....”After a few years, politicians no longer view DC as a swamp...more like a hot tub!!!”
FYI: Paul Ryan was at the DC premier of HBO’s “Game Change”.
My question is, are unemployment extensions included with this? I hope not. If this is to be the plan, then pass it and adjourn, sine die.
“Can we stop talking about what a great conservative Paul Ryan is?”
Agreed. I did so long ago.
“Just because National Review and other intellectually challenged conservative outlets think he is the nation’s greatest conservative, his voting record has never supported such an idea.”
Actually, NR’s support should presumptively cause us some alarm.
Yep. He’s done this before. Boner acts as point man, and then after waiting a bit, Ryan jumps on board.
He’s Romney’s kind of conservative.
I didn’t say anything during the run up to the election, but I’m afraid that’s what I was thinking.
It doesn’t really matter. BigEars wants us to go “Over the cliff” and we WILL be going “Over the cliff” or something WORSE.
It’s because Obama expects them to do nothing. It’s what he wants. It may not be what we exactly wanted but it’s more than Obama had planned for. Over the cliff-Obama decrees,
veto tax plan for all those under $1MM year-Obama decrees.
