President Barack Obama has implied that he will look at the issue of gun control after 20 children and seven women were killed by lone gunman Adam Lanza on Friday in Newtown, Connecticut.
The Second Amendment to the US Constitution protects the right of citizens "to keep and bear arms". However, restrictions on gun ownership vary by state.
Figures from the United Nations show the US sitting fifth in the world in terms of people murdered by a firearm, with 9,960 such homicides in 2010.
But in part this is because of its large population: the US falls to 26th, behind many Latin American and Caribbean countries, when the figure is expressed as a rate per 100,000 people.

It does not matter to the victim if they are murdered with a gun or a car bomb. They are still dead. Comparisons of the entire murder rate would make a little sense. Comparisons of gun murder rates do not. If you compare car murders in places without cars, of course they do not have as many.
Then, notice the irrational and incorrect grammar. People are not murdered by a firearm. They are murdered *with* a firearm.
A significant difference which the left deliberately obfuscates.
What difference does it make if they use a gun?
A murder is a murder so the overall murder rate is what is important. Sometimes they use homicide rate but that is also misleading as it includes such justifiable homicides as self defense and police shootings.
I would bet the U.S. is way down the list in murder rates.
I guess when the North Koreans, Red Chinese, Rwandans, Syrians, Iranians, Libyans, Afghani Taliban and Al Qaeda do it it’s not considered murder.
Would love to see the numbers without the inner cities averaged in.
THEY are the reason it appears we are such a violent nation.

Something seems fishy about these charts.... for the Gun murder: Top 10 countries (by rate per 100,000), are there no countries that aren’t in South or Central America?
No, that is an execution.
That's the only set of numbers that matters.
Our real problem is we have a bunch of whiners who are not happy to be alive ~ they want to create more Gun Free Zones where the killers know where to find victims.
The only way this could have happened is if the victims were deliberately put into a situation where they were defenseless.
Government schools, besides being prison preparatory institutions, are death traps.
A lot of them performed by UN blue helmets themselves. LOL!

Their hope is to precipitate a civil war while THEY control the gummint. They seem to think that Law Penforcement will play along with their scheme to turn us into criminals. LEOs will lose their enthusiasm quickly. We will not be disarmed.
Luckily after Ft Hood, many base commanders made the restrictions even tighter......akin to saying there can't even be a picture of a gun in a school and if a 5 year old draws one s/he willl be suspended.
