Gov. Christie: Americans need to have a 'national discussion' about gun control

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie said tonight that gun control is one of several issues that must be examined to prevent tragedies like Friday’s school shooting in Connecticut.

On New Jersey 101.5 FM’s "Ask the Governor," Christie said Americans should engage in a "national discussion" about gun control, as well as the stigma associated with mental health treatment and violence in the media.

"What role does the media play in terms of the violence we see on television and the movies? And the violent video games that I think desensitize our children to the real effects of violence. So I think we have to have a national discussion," the governor said.

When asked whether gun control was an issue as well, Christie said, "Gun control absolutely has to be part of that discussion too."

Christie said New Jersey has the second-toughest gun laws in the nation, behind New York. "I’ve been a supporter of that as governor and will continue to be," he said.

I’ll offer up the same contribution to the national discussion on gun control that I did yesterday.

If the GOP rolls over on this issue, I’m out. Done. Finished. If they’re not going to support me, I see no reason why I should support them.

To the fat RINOs of the world, I just say this: I suspect that if you want to render the GOP completely irrelevant in national politics, and guarantee one-party control by Democrats for a generation, this would be a good way to do it.

National discussion?

Where have I heard the rhetoric before?

Oh yeah, Eric Holder and our national discussion on race.

What you really mean is you assholes pontificate and we little people are supposed to listen to your unbridled wisdom.

the nation has talked about gun control, publically and privately, for as long as I can remember. And, I am told from time to time, that I’m older than dirt. So what’s new???

Chris Christie put the shaft to Romney just before the election by hugging Obama for hurricane money. Now he is dissing the whole gun owning population of the US.

The Second Amendment is what keeps the government from trashing all the Amendments and most of the Constitution. It is our threat to government that we won’t stand for tyranny. It is a deterrence, just like the US nuke arsenal kept the Soviets in line during the Cold War. We never wanted a nuke war, but we said do one and die. It’s the same with tyranny, we don’t want to fight government armed forces as they have tanks and artillery, but we could make it a bit tough for them and slow them down.

During the assault gun ban, data showed magazine limits and style of firearms limits did not lessen gun violence. Data on CCW states clearly shows an armed honest populace lessens crime and firearm attacks.

Tell your congress critter and your state representatives to keep their mitts off your gun rights.

Dear America,

Our nationwide search for the new face of the RINO-party has been completed. Thank you for your interest. We are no longer hiring.

Sincerely,

The GOPe

I’m ready for a discussion on gun control...

I prefer the two handed grip, although I was
taught single hand in the Marine corps.
In Rifles a sling is a great help.

Well, governor, the process for your “national conversation” is already in place. It’s called a Constitutional Amendment.

Until then, get out of my life.

No, Chris Christie needs to go on a diet.

I am amazed that so many so called intelligent "Freepers" resort to ridiculing Christie , not for his stance on a subject, but for his weight...That my friends is PATHETIC

if you have nothing intelligent to say....silence is golden

Christie Kreme weighs in.
(snort)

Seriously, if that stinking tub gets anywhere near the GOP nomination in ‘16 I will - - finally - - conclude that reforming the GOP is an impossible task, and for the first time in my life I will support a third party option.

Christie should be imprisoned until he tells authorities where he has hidden all his spoons.
