Behind the scenes of a GOP meltdown
Politico ^ | 12/21/2012 | Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan

Things were so bad for Speaker John Boehner Thursday night, support for his Plan B tax bill so diminished, the limits of his power with his own party laid bare, that he stood in front of the House Republican Conference and recited the Serenity Prayer.

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Boehner nearly cried.

The Ohio Republican accepted that he couldn’t change the minds of his House Republican Conference. He tried to convince them that, facing tough negotiations with President Barack Obama over the fiscal cliff, he needed them on his side — and he fell short. With that, Boehner — a man who has clawed back from the political ledge to arrive at the top rung of power — saw perhaps the lowest moment in his speakership.

It was supposed to be a moment of strength, a way to drag Obama and the Democrats toward them in the high-stakes fiscal cliff negotiations that have Washington teetering on the brink. Instead, it showed the world that either Boehner couldn’t bring 217 of his own members to his side, or they were unwilling to be led by him in this fight.

Rep. Mike Kelly, a burly freshman from Pennsylvania, stood in front of a closed meeting in the basement of the Capitol and said his fellow Republicans were selfish. Boehner, he said, has done a good job.

It was too late. The meeting had adjourned. No heartfelt rhetoric from Boehner. He and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) simply read statements later delivered to the press, and went their respective ways.

Don’t say that too loud. Some of his fan club might get ideas. See the light. Admit the truth of it...

Nah. They are just as screwed up as he is.

"Boehner just demonstrated that the republican party is not going to roll over for the marxists this time."

With all due respect, BULLSHIT. All he had to do was work with the conservatives in the House and pass a bill to extend ALL the Bush tax cuts, and then adjourn the House after they passed it, and then leave it on Reid's desk.

With just a little PR, the Pubbies could have said "look what we did, but Reid's Senate wouldn't even consider it", much less submit a budget in the last 4 years. Boehner & Co. have not one testicle among the bunch. They are still afraid of how Clinton claimed the Pubbies were responsible for shutting down the Fedgov, when it was actually Clinton.

Keep your Boener. I'm done with the Republican party. Even many of the TEA Party newbies are falling in line after your bud fired a couple of them. And no, I don't care if that gives more to Dimosocialists. The takers have taken over. I'm okay with a complete melt-down.

I would prefer President Dwayne Elizondo Herbert Mountain Dew Camacho. He’s a five time Smackdown champion and porn superstar.

Our ray of hope is that most of us are better prepared than they are. We own most of the farmlands, the means of production and the guns to defend them. We also own most of the skills and the work ethic to preserve what we can and rebuild what we cannot.

When TSHTF and the EBT cards cease to be accepted, more and more people will see Fedzilla as the worthless, toothless non-productive tool of the gimmes which it has become. More and more of us might even demand a massive and long overdue downsizing.

We can start by leasing the large populated by fairly concentrated areas inhabited by gimmes to the ChiComs to govern as special administrative regions, much like they do Hong Kong to help retire our debt. We should start with those areas with the largest concentrations of Obama voters.

Read until the end of the Book of Revelation. We may go through hell, but we win in the end.

Mr. Speaker,

Step 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.

Don’t feel bad. A relative has one of those sorta but not really MIB type jobs and I keep asking to ask the bosses to let me go to Area 51 to hitch a ride home.

I miss my home. It’s in another dimension just like this one. With far less idiots drinking Brawndo (the Idiocracy irrigation stuff).

I hate to say this, but Nancy Pelosi showed more b@lls when she was speaker than this weeping wimp.

And what does this say about obamas ability to lead? Of course it’s once again the other party’s fault when there’s no deal?

The house passed that bill already, last August, and it has been sitting on Reid's desk ever since. That is the bill that Reid said was DOA.

I’m still here at this point. Be sure to let me know if you get taken out. I’ll do the same. ;^)

We’ve got close to six months now. Water is a check, but I need to do better with food.

We put in propane for our grill, but I need to bump that up as well.

It’s not that hard to do. It’s just taking the time to do it.

You cannot cut off 20 or 30 of your people at the knees and then expect them to vote your way.

The fact this democratic rag is coddling Bonehead should tell anyone
with an open mind how the DC Party feels about Bonehead.
Bonehead tried to who- do his own party. Thank God he failed.

No, he just showed there is no credible opposition to the marxists. The kenyan will get everything he wants after we go over the cliff. Everything.

This weeping, spray-tanned, alcoholic girly man needs to go away. We only need 16 representatives to withold their votes for his reelection as speaker next month. Please, can just 16 of them find one testicle between them?

These guys care only for their own jobs and the power that comes with those jobs. They care little to nothing of their constituents and their country.

They’re a bunch of hack lawyers who are too lazy and tired of working in law firms and want to hang onto the power (and sex) of being in congress. Oh yes, and their pensions and gold plated health insurance.

Term limits!!

I really hope he isn't surprised that he didn't have support of the conservative Republicans after back stabbing them with committee assignments.

Oh, he was surprised, all right. Just like the cowardly loser wife-beater who is surprised by the spouse who finally stands up for herself. "Wha-?? You leavin' me??? Now, where did THAT come from?"

The Republicans should have said at the beginning of this farce,”We sent you our bill already. The matter is closed,” and go home for the holidays then not come back until the original bill is dealt with properly.
