Assault weapon owners cite diverse reasons for owning the guns
Rapid City Journal ^ | 22 dec 2012 | Aaron Orlowski

In the wake of the deadly Connecticut school shooting last week, one question has repeatedly surfaced in the Black Hills and across much of the country: Why would anyone want to own an assault weapon?

One thing is clear — the high-powered rifles capable of shooting multiple rounds in a hurry are in high demand. After President Barack Obama said this week he would push to renew a ban on purchasing the rifles, local gun-shop owners said the weapons have been flying off their shelves.

Meanwhile, gun owners in Rapid City cite diverse reasons for purchasing the weapons. Some say they are durable and accurate; a few see them as a financial investment or a way to exercise their constitutional rights; while others point to their value in self-protection or in the fun of target shooting.

Whatever the reason, assault-rifle owners are committed to the weapon.

"There is something kind of zen-like in setting up a bench and trying to put

To tell you the truth I don’t know. It looks sorta like Sesame Street and I wouldn’t be surprised. I wonder how he feels about being the butt of a million race-baiting jokes?

I use my assault rifle for cleaning grease off wheel bearings.

You will not throw the Constitution in the trash

They already have. They love the commerce clause, as expanded by liberal justices; and they love the 14th Amendment, as misconstrued by the courts.

Aside from that, they have ignored the other 99% of the Constitution for decades. It's getting much worse.

I will personally call out the militia and go to war with your ass

I believe that is coming. He has done more to segregate and marginalize us than Jim Crow ever did. The war is imminent; and I am sorry to see it. Unfortunately, it's got to be done.

Careful with that. If you get the bearing spinning too fast it breaks the cage and the rollers all go flying :(

The is NO SUCH THING as an assault weapon, no more than there is an assault rock or car. Guns are objects.

Philosophically, I decided long ago to never purchase/own a Warsaw pact caliber. I've probably missed out on owning some pretty fine weapons, and as unlikely as it seemed at the time I made that decision, some pretty cheap bulk ammo, too.

It's all in one's perspective, I guess. After the Eastern Bloc crumbled, I figured it was my patriotic duty to help empty their warehouses of the ammo intended to shoot at us and our NATO brethren. My dad never flinched when picking up his K98 Mauser (which came home in his duffel bag), so it all seemed like the spoils of victory to me.

As a postscript, the full-auto M-1 carbine was arguably the world’s first “assault rifle.” USA! USA! USA!
Cold. Dead. Fingers.

Well, I’m gonna check out, stuff my face with cheese and crackers, pickled herring and guacamole and watch Atlanta lose to Detroit.

Merry Christmas and best wishes to you and yours.

I quibbled and said the usual civilian hunting rifle. The Mini -14 is the main exception because it is effectively identical in capability to the AR-15 variants and the other civilianized “ASSAULT RIFLES”.
There arent a lot of civilian semi-auto rifles in a useful caliber (.22’s arent included) with detachable box magazines. Other than the Mini-14 these are mainly collectibles.

The Germans still win. I think the auto version was only issued post-WWII. And .30 carbine is not in the same league.

Look at it as rate of fire. With 30 round mags its about 50 aimed rpm. With 10 round mags its more like 30rpm. He can kill people only 3/5 as fast. Ceteris paribus therefore he will have the opportunity to kill 3/5 as many.

**** even tho the mag only holds 4 rounds....****

You can buy extended magazines for that rifle if you know where to look. I had one years ago and it had an extended magazine. When I sold it I kept the magazine.

***Pretty much anything that makes libs pee themselves is liable to be classed as an assault weapon.***

I love the sight of urine dripping down a liberal’s pants in the morning. It looks like ....VICTORY!
