Boehner Considers Nixing SOTU in Chambers
Self | 12/24/12 | Vanity

Posted on 12/24/2012 3:01:37 AM PST by chiller

We've only heard talk and do not know if this is true but it certainly must be, given Obama's shabby and insulting treatment of the Speaker in fiscal cliff negotiations. The latest reports from the Wall Street Journal and other sources indicate Obama has threatened Boehner and republicans with a throw-down public humiliation during Inaugural and SOTU addresses, unless Obama gets his way.

Why would the Speaker invite the President (which is only done by recent tradition since the age of TV, iirc) into his house to allow him to soil his hosts ?

To do so is tantamount to surrender. The Speaker should publicly refuse use of House Chambers and let Obama work out the details. I'm sure the networks will happily accommodate him.

Petty behavior from Boehner ? Back at ya'. Not in my House

Obie uses the SOTU as a bash-his-opponents forum, anyway, whether conservatives, republicans or SC justices. I say; no more, not in our house

I like it. Boehner should put the question to a vote of the GOP caucus.

Asked and answered for most I inquiring minds. When the collapse occurs, followed by riots, followed by some daming evidence of more illegality coming from the white hut (Benghazi will do).....then perhaps his place of birth may be of interest to the rest.

I no longer care where the communist was born, just when we can send him back there and start repairing the massive damage to what used to be a free country. Once he can no longer harm us, our children, and our grandchildren, I don't care if he hides in Kenya, Indonesia, Hawaii, or Chicago. I just want a real American in our White House to repeal everything Obama has done to our country.

All of this assumes Boehner is still speaker in late January
Here’s a scenario: knowing he’s about to be deposed as speaker, Boehner should make this his last official act.

A coup has to be set in motion as the very first order of business and involves changing house rules to use secret ballots for speaker selection. (Supposedly members behind the coup don’t have the brass / won’t try it if they keep the voice vote / eventual roll call for fear of recriminations

There is no requirement for a once-a-year, media-driven SOTU with a congressional forum.

The SOTU can be satisfied with a written report delivered from time to time.

Ears will just use the Senate floor instead.

Correct, which is why this should be done this year. SOTU as an address is mostly a tv concoction. A report will suffice but no prez wants to waste so much free tv time.

Let him have the SOTU but turn the cameras off. It would drive him crazy.

And then what? Obama moves it to Yankee stadium or some such, and p it with adoring throngs of union member.

He still gets his made for tv moment, and destroys yet another tradition.

Senate chambers aren’t large enough to handle a joint session ,fwiw.

Of course Obie would find some accommodation from the networks, but this congress would forever be known as the one that wouldn’t roll over for Obama

This is a wet dream, of course.
