A freshman GOP lawmaker wants to allow teachers to carry guns in Washington schools.
KATU-TV reports Rep. Liz Pike from Camas says she will file a bill to change state law and allow teachers to carry concealed weapons in the classroom.

I still have a kid in school and I fully support a trained armed person in my son’s school.
Teachers as a group are probably 95% far left liberal in Washington State. They would never go near a gun even to protect themselves, or their students.
Here in the Seattle metro area that is the case, but I grew up near Camas. Kids started hunting rabbits and pheasant when they were young. I’m sure there are teachers down there who would be prepared to defend their students if they were allowed.

I hope it happens.
I do too but not at the expense of another bloated Government program.
I just saw a news report on teachers in Utah (I think) getting free training to carry in their classrooms, totally voluntary of course.
One of the teachers interviewed was bragging about a new holster she just bought that would allow her to conceal without any ones knowledge and have immediate access if need be.
I'm sure the idea won't catch on though as it makes total sense.
Five percent would be plenty.
I agree, no new government program. Train teachers or have parents volunteer. I would be up for that on an occasional basis.
There are so many ways it could be done. I have a feeling that except for a few isolated cases, there will be no armed people in schools. They would rather have dead kids to use as a political weapon against the 2A.
That really is the sad, sad reality.
I have no words to describe the utter contempt I hold for these people.
I think she is just trolling. The question is, who?
“...would *require* teachers to *voluntarily* go through mental health evaluations and gun training at their own expense before being *allowed*...”
Riiiiight.
I am more in favor of hiring disabled veterans as armed school guards. They will not only do the job well, but be a “war hero” role model to the kids. And of course, it will also help out disabled vets who are likely having a very hard time finding work in the current job market.
Every school should require at least two teachers and two administrators to carry, and take the necessary courses. Child protection should be a mandatory college course for education majors. Each school should also have a full time police officer assigned to it. The argument is that protecting our schools would require one out of every seven cops to be taken off of other duties, like giving tickets and speeding around. It might require a SWAT officer to miss kicking in the wrong door and invading the wrong house. It seems like a small sacrifice that communities can handle. More gun laws won’t protect our children at schools, but armed guards will. The argument is that simple.
