NYC Wants to Mandate a No-Smoking Ban in Peoples’ Homes
The Independent Sentinel ^ | December 30, 2012 | Sara Noble

NYC Mayor Bloomberg is behind a secret cabal of neighborhood spies who run around convincing tenants and landlords to disallow all smoking by tenants, even within their own apartments.

The community spy groups get a $10,000 bounty for their efforts. The bounty is coming out of a grant, in other words, our tax money.

This is ripe for corruption to say nothing about the whole stealth factor being unethical, sneaky, and communistic. It pits neighbor against neighbor and it demonizes people.

But don’t worry, it is for the common good.

I’ve never smoked in my life and I don’t like being around cigarettes, but what right does anyone have to tell someone what they can do in their own home? Did our Bill of Rights disappear? Can’t Mayor Bloomberg look up our inherent rights on the Internet?

Did anyone doubt the government would enter our homes? Seriously, did you doubt it?

In mid-November, the New York Times reported that more landlords are demanding that new renters promise not to smoke in their homes. Most are grandfathering in present tenants.

Kenbar Management’s new project at 1510 Lexington Avenue which opened this month bans smoking in all 298 units, in addition to private and shared terraces. You can’t even smoke outside, not even on the sidewalk around the building. You would think smokers were spreading sarin gas. Actually the leftist PR is great and they make smoking sound as dangerous.

The NYC Health Department produced a study that indicates 57% of new tenants might possibly have been exposed to secondhand smoke. That’s a study you can hang your hat on.

Kenbar is a private company and can do what they want but the government doing it is something altogether different. They want to intrude on our personal lives, especially now that they have put themselves in charge of our healthcare.

Public housing throughout the country is being encouraged to ban smoking and they are doing it.

Laws are being passed against smoking. For example, all apartments and condos in Richmond, California must ban smoking by law.

San Francisco has banned smoking but won’t extend the ban to pot.

Marijuana has been legalized in two states and is ignored in others while smoking is verboten. The fact that marijuana is a gateway drug is meaningless to the leftists.

Disney banned smoking in film which is rich since no one is talking about banning vulgar and violent movies and video games.

The Pentagon has been considering a ban on smoking by soldiers.

The left bans what they don’t like and the rest of us have no say in the matter. Is this really what people want? What will they ban next? The fact that many on the far left hate Conservatives, Republicans, Christians, religion, morality, salt, sugar, McDonald’s, baby formula, fuel oil and gas, et al should send shivers down your spine.

I don’t like being in the position of supporting smoking and I certainly don’t want to promote it but telling people what they can do in their own home is just wrong.

When pot smoking is legalized, will it be exempted from this ban just as 40 ouncers of malt liquor are exempted from Nanny Bloomberg’s “32+ ounce drink ban”?

I thought the large drink ban only applied to non-diet sodas and certain other non-alcoholic beverages.

Just as Barack Obama banned flavored tobacco (except Menthol).

Can’t have the public getting uppity over such power grabs by the Nanny State. Some people are exempted from the legislation.

Are 40 ounce malt liquor bottles somehow healthier than a 44 ounce coca cola?

My brother was drafted in the late 50's and picked up a nasty habit of dipping snuff 'cuz he couldn't smoke on guard duty. He was an MP at Ft Lewis.

After he got out his wife ragged him about his "filthy habit" for years. When he died I slipped a can of Copenhagen into his coat pocket. It may have been a filthy habit but it was his filthy habit. We all should have at least that much...

Regards,
GtG

Yes I assume it is for health, but for the government (or the Despot I should say) to invade a business so obnoxiously like that serves only one purpose as far as I can see: The Despot has a small penis and has this insane drive to compensate for it.

I was watching New Years eve from NYC on TV and as usual, the Despot had to be front and center for the countdown. Did you see that? He had himself surrounded by the Rockettes who then proceeded to kiss him all over his face when midnight came. Maybe you can see it on Youtube if you missed it.

He does this when a sports team wins as well. He has to be front and center in the first car when the Yankees win or the Giants win. Why? Because has a small Johnson. This past year a cop was murdered investigating a robbery. Peter Fegosi I believe his name was. He was a single dad who left behind 4 daughters. Has it ever occurred to the Despot that maybe for once, it would be pretty cool for kids like that to do the New Years countdown or ride in a parade? No, he never does that because he’s a smalled dicked little a-hole.

I smoke in MY house that belongs to me and not a mortgage company

I smoked for 50 years and then quit about 5 years ago, yeah, that's right, I'm old.

Over the years I watched relatives and friends quit and the first thing they did after quitting was to ban smoking in their houses. Their right to be sure but it always seemed sanctimonious to me.

As a result Marcella, if you ever visit my home, you may be sure, I'll have an ash tray out for you.

P.S. My wife and I don't drink either but we have a modest supply of liquor, for those who do.

It's a filthy habit - I hope to quit some day...

Stopped smoking in house/car years ago and try to be polite around others, but that stops when they get pi$$y.

I would say that Bloomberg is very much a certain type of New Yorker - although he originates from the state of Massachusetts. It's the Upper West Side neurotic who is afraid of sickness and death and enjoys endless trips to the doctor for tests and “procedures”. Actually, these kind of people are all over NYC. They then project their fears outward onto other people. Fear of smoking, fear of alcohol, fear of salty snacks, fear of potholes, fear of food in restaurants. It goes on and on and on.

The only thing they tolerate as an inevitable fear is the homeless terrorizing their neighborhoods!!

I have a friend who works closely with the Bloomberg cabal, and here is a nice tidbit for you: He told me last night that the Despot is thinking of ways to “serve” ANOTHER term! In other words 4 more years as Mayor. Can you believe this? Actually I can very much. NYC is no longer a democracy. It’s a autocracy. Dictator for life HRH Bloomberg. Actually, we don’t have much of a choice anyway. It’s either him, Christine Quinn or Anthony Weiner lol

Oh, I’d believe it if he declared himself “Mayor for Life.” That big talker John Kazametitis (pardon my spelling) was on John Gambling this morning claiming he was going to throw his hat in the ring. He does this every time an election comes up.

Yes, they do that - act like smoking is now a great big sin no matter how long they smoked. I use an E cigarette when I'm in a public place, such as a restaurant, that doesn't allow smoking.

I have a low tolerance for alcohol and get tipsy with a glass of wine. One time I was with husband and a friend and went to a Mexican restaurant. I ordered a Margarita. I didn't know they put two shots of alcohol in there. I got so drunk my eyes wouldn't focus and that was before the food got there. I stayed that bad through that meal and had to be helped to car by husband afterward. He and the friend laughed their heads off, but I was miserable. From then on, I ask the waiter how much they put in those drinks. I never want to be that way again.

Sometimes at the end of a day, I drink a bit of Amaretto or Michael's Irish Cream but only a small amount.

Private property be damned! Many a FReeper will celebrate the advancement to tyranny....

That said, I do support the private property OWNERs’ rights to disallow smoking. Sadly, many do not support their right to ALLOW smoking.

“What people don’t understand is this is AGENDA 21!! And it will continue little piece by little piece until we have NO freedoms……..and people will wonder………how did that happen?”

Yet, when you (or I) point it out to people then they just say, “he’s just one of those crazy, paranoid right wing nut jobs!”

I wouldn’t say many FReepers. I only count 2 who hate smokers. Witless wonders.

The others are just normal people who just don’t like the smell. All politics are local and they can’t see beyond their nose.

Doesn’t make them bad people.
