OUTGOING GOP REP: WE HAVE ENOUGH VOTES TO UNSEAT BOEHNER
Breitbart ^ | January 2, 2013 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 01/02/2013 6:50:58 PM PST by Buddy Sorrell

Outgoing Louisiana Republican Rep. Jeff Landry told Breitbart News there are at least 17 GOP members who plan to unseat House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday, and Boehner may resign on Wednesday evening during or after a GOP caucus meeting.

** UPDATE -- Boehner is now making concessions in what AMA’s Meyer says is an attempt “to try to save face.” The Hill reports he told Republicans he won’t negotiate one-on-one with President Barack Obama anymore.

At this point I’d take Lucifer just to watch him torch America and give it the enema we need.

The article has a mis-leading headline.
If one takes the time to read the article.
Bonehead is not trying to save face

He is trying to negotiate the terms of retaining his speakership.
By saying he will no longer go one on one with Obama,
he is saying his Rino Monkey deal making skills ain’t working.
So then he promises to abide by normal house rules.
3 days to read bills, etc.

Sounds like a desperate man trying to save his job. Not face.

Great...we have enough votes to unseat the spineless wimp, but not enough votes to oust the commie-in-chief working to destroy America. Talk about small victories.

I’ve never been a fan of Boener either but I found this on the web and it could get really bad really fast it this were to happen.

“The process for the vote is a bit complicated. For the time being, the only candidates for nomination would be Boehner and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The only way for someone to win the speakership is to win a majority (more than 50 percent) of all votes cast. If everybody votes, that means the winner must ultimately attract 218 votes. There are 234 Republicans in the new Congress, but if Boehner loses 17 of them, it’s enough to kick the vote to a second ballot — something that hasn’t happened since 1923.

Pelosi could conceivably win the speakership, but only if Republicans cross over to vote for her or if enough Republicans actually abstain from voting.”

With as many spineless Republicans in the House I could this nightmare happening.

The speaker of the house is not required to be a representative of that body. It can be anyone the membership chooses.

What you have explained is EXACTLY why the Tea Party Caucus needs to stand together and put serious pressure on the republicans in the house. If they are afraid to stand up to the democrats, they should be able to find the courage to let the Tea Party caucus stand up for them.

The congress convenes on January 20. We have 17 days to make them listen!

"The congress convenes on January 20. We have 17 days to make them listen! "

I think that you might be wrong- This current Congress is gone in about 1/2 hour Eastern time. I really don't know what "convenes" means technically, but the next Congress starts 01/03/2013, and their first order of business is to "chuse" a speaker. ( Buckwheat will be Immaculated 01/20/2013)

We could use a victory, cheap, small or whatever about now. Does anyone know if they made the tax cuts permanent?

I think you are correct. I plan to stay up late faxing and calling congressional offices to urge them to unite against Boehner, anyway.

I wonder if electing a democrat speaker while the republicans have the majority would in a sense neuter the speaker's role and dilute the power of that position. It seems to me that we'd be no worse off.

You don't know what you're talking about. Go ahead, get a Dem in that position. Probably what the Dems were really after all along, never mind the blasted fiscal cliff.

I’ve already contacted my Congresscritters, but I don’t think a Rat speaker would help anything- He/she would have the same power as Reid in the Senate to control the items to be voted on or not, and that would be a total disaster.

We need a Conservative Speaker, and a Conservative Party. The Republican Party has proven it’s impotence, and needs to be obliterated completely and replaced.

“It seems to me that we’d be no worse off.”

Sigh. I was screaming about this when everyone was fixated on the presidency. House and Senate are more important. This removes the last check on Obama’s power.

“Why have 2 parties now!?”

For the same reason the Soviet Union had elections. So a scripted, totalitarian system can pretend to be representative and feign consent of the governed.
