Number of mentions of the term "gun control" in the news, according to Nexis.
On the day of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., we published a chart showing the Sisyphean nature of the national gun control discussion. In the immediate aftermath of a shooting, such as the one that took place in Aurora, Colo., mentions of the term "gun control" spike in the news media. In a matter of days, that discussion all but disappears.
This time was supposed to be different. "It is hard to believe this will not be a watershed moment when we start to talk about, deal with and even perhaps legislate on guns," ABC News's Z. Byron Wolf wrote. He was one among many in the media who believed the momentum for gun control legislation was strong enough to turn the tide on a familiar pattern.
Blame it on the fiscal cliff, blame it on Christmas, blame it on our ability to forget, but the national discussion about gun control has once again ebbed. Mentions of the term "gun control" on television, in newspapers, and in online media are down to pre-Sandy Hook levels, according to the Nexis database.
Barring a post-holidy resurgence -- which is certainly possible -- the gun control discussion has once again gone the way of... the gun control discussion.

The 1970 claim was handguns and sawed off shotguns were not protected.
The gun grabbers haven't given up yet - they just know that they can't charge directly into gun control yet.
Too bad the effect on the supply and pricing of guns and ammo won’t taper off that fast. It will all be scarce and pricey for the foreseeable future.
Indeed; now would be a good time to get into the manufacture business (of arms or ammo).

The passage of the first AWB did not stop or mitigate the Columbine High School shooting.
She and others are pushing for another AWB because of the rich and the super-rich."
We already have the Second Amendment -- we don't need any meddling and interference.
I'd like to see another chart illustrating the spike in gun and ammunition sales. Well, not so much a spike as an impressive sustained surge. Any good retail news over the holidays is probably due to firearms-related sales.

Thank goodness because greedy sellers were trying to get $35 for a single AR-15 30 rd magazine and $500 for a stripped lower receiver.
Does this mean that ammo will soon stop whisking off of the store shelves in mere seconds? I sure hope so.

As a Second Amendment supporter, I am relieved the anti-gun hysteria has cooled. The killer was the evil monster, not the tools or means used in the horror.
Still, we have to remain prepared to defend our constitutional rights as the left can gin up support through its media control or sneak a law through if we sleep too soundly.
The so-called “Gun Show Loophole” really has nothing to do with gun shows. It’s about private sales. The antis want to do away with them or require all of them to go through dealers with background checks.
The laughable part of background checks is that I’m a NYS pistol permit holder. I get a background check complete with fingerprints to get the actual permit. Then, with every purchase of a handgun, I get yet another background check for each new handgun. Then when you buy a long gun in NY, you get yet another background check for each purchase. It’s becoming a frigging joke.
When I hear some idiot talking about yet more background checks being needed they don’t know what the hell they are talking about.
With the amount of them that I have had I should qualify for top secret clearance for the government.
Thanks! Here in Georgia we are not registered unless you get a CCW license, which I have. When I buy a new gun, I show that, I fill out papers saying I am not an illegal immigrant, criminal, or crazy person and I walk out in 10 minutes or so. I am assured there are no state records kept here, just what the feds already require.
And yep, I could sell my gun to my neighbor and only keep a bill of sale to protect myself.
