Back when I worked at a grocery store the people paying with food stamps bought the most expensive steaks and the most prepared food. People who were poor but paying with cash bought the cheapest meat and the most scratch ingredients.
I’ve often wondered what that does to the cost of food for everyone else.
Big boon to casinos and iPad sellers.
Guilty here.
There was a 4 year period in my life when I existed almost 100% on government food and government checks. Then I got my honorable discharge.
Compulsory military service for food stamp recipients? How to discipline such people . . . ?
The Obama curse at work.
Same thing it does to college costs and health care.
And to think there was a time in this country that we didn’t have food stamps. It is simply amazing how, as a nation, we survived until we had these great liberal programs.
They would get healthy food, create jobs at a food distribution center and keep the post office in business.
Give them a choice of voucher coupons if they want fresh milk, eggs, meat or cheese.
I've seen liquor stores with flashing signs that say “EBT cards accepted here”.
I am tired of supporting these folks.
All the good paying jobs have gone.
And with higher taxes, that’s a discentive to keep a job.
Food stamps and income assistance - are well - tax-free.
No wonder people are signing up them for in today’s tough Obaconomy.
I’ve also wondered why they don’t have food distribution centers where they give out food that must be made from scratch. The whole EBT thing is out of control.
An example: I teach & my new assistant is 23 & has a 6 month old & a two year old. Her husband is two time felon. She makes barely any money & her husband is unemployed. She had been out w/ a bad back & I reminded her (this was the week before we got out for Christmas) that our grade was doing the potluck for the school and she was supposed to bring a few dips. She said, “My brother has stamps & he got some chips too & a sarah lee cheesecake for us!”
Now this is a nice person, she’s young (23, but completely unaware that these things are bought w/ taxpayer money and it should NOT be going for this crap. And I thought to myself, “Why does your young, healthy brother have foodstamps?), but it is so embedded in this community where I teach that I feel hopeless. She doesn’t see any disconnect when she says she is broke & then orders out $6-8.00 lunches, gets expensive hair extensions, gets her nails done, has a huge b’day party for her son at a pizza/skate place. I make much more than her & bring my lunch.
I really do give up. There is no getting this back. It is so out of control & the people so disengaged from reality. I can only shake my head & I guess keep on working to support this lifestyle.
Go look at the price of a bag of potato chips and you will have your answer.
Food stamps, via the EBT card, is as corrupt as it can be. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out 40% of the money is just wasted or used illegally.
A popular food stamp scam is to do as you said and then sell the goods around your neighborhood for 50-60 cents on the dollar. Good for you, cash in your pocket. Good for your neighbors, discount eating.
Tax them 6.2% for SS and Medicare.
