GALVESTON Jose Alfredo Sanchez and his wife may never see their daughter alive again.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials this week denied the Mexican couple's final attempt to obtain permission for humanitarian reasons to visit Maria Sanchez, 26, who's painfully living out the last days of her life in a Houston apartment under the care of her husband.
It was the third time the agency denied humanitarian parole to the parents of Maria Sanchez, who's nearing death. Critics of immigration laws say the case illustrates a

I didn’t realize we HAD a door that could be slammed shut.
Everyone comes here illegally, takes free medical care from the taxpayers and then complains....
I didn’t realize we had a door. I thought it was an archway.
The US has NOT undermined the family unit. The ILLEGALS are undermining their own family units’
I’m so tired of these bleeding heart stories underscoring the heartlessness of having an immigration policy.
Look, when you enter a country illegally, especially with children, YOU are solely responsible for the repercussions.
And I’d also like to know who is picking up the tab for the medical care provided. Funny how that’s missing from this story...
it is a sad story but the fact is that she is here illegally receiving care free , when there are legal people who need care also and are denied
There will be many sob stories about separating families of illegals in a effort to get amnesty passed
the parents should just cross illegaly like the other 15 million
I did not see why the parents were not granted entry. Did I miss something?
I'm sorry if I sound heartless -- but she snuck into this country, she separated herself from her family, not us.
The story did not share why or which parent was inadmissible to the United States, but for some reason they would not be granted a visa.
I would bet you dollar to a donut it is because they were already here illegally once and got sent back. They are known criminals and shouldn’t be allowed to enter again, even if their daughter is ‘dying’.....Mexico can medivac her by copter to Mexico if they want to see her.
it says he or she ( parents) are ‘ inadmissible”
since 0dumbo lets anyone in this means one of them is probably a criminal who was deported
OR 0dumbo is using this to gin up sympathy
Tough tacos...no sympathy here
And why hasn’t the Catholic Church offered to transport the dying woman back to Mexico so she can be with her parents in her dying days? Medical care shouldn’t be an issue, this newspaper has told us time and time again how wonderful national health care is, and Mexico has been operating with a national health care system for over a decade.
And oddly, the young child is only identified as being the daughter of the husband, not ‘their daughter.’ Nor any mention as to when the couple were married. And the husband is noted to be making efforts to go back to work, rather than continue offering hospice care for his wife who never happened to take his name.
I’m going to have to suspect that this is one of the many sham marriages done under the assumption that an anchor baby automatically confers legal stay for anyone and everyone who happens to trip into a relationship to them. That she was kicked out of the hospital for an elective surgery when it was discovered that she lied on her paperwork, and her reaction was to enter into a sham marriage under the assumption that this would suddenly change things, and then was told it was now inoperable.
Huh, appears her assumption was right if she underwent all those scans to establish that it was inoperable, using medical care I’m pretty sure she never paid for, likely by using her relationship to her husband and his daughter.
It seems pretty clear to me:
“Luis Lara, legal affairs counsel at the consulate, said Customs and Border Protection denied the first request because Jose Sanchez was deported from the United States 13 years ago for being in the country illegally.”
I can’t understand why you all can’t understand....
She came her illegally, her father came her illegally and was deported. Their problem is self-created and I have absolutely no sympathy for their situation.
The hospital discharge indicated she should get surgery in Mexico. Why didn’t she? Her parents could have cared for her and the child while her husband worked and applied to bring her back legally.
The husband, who has a Green Card, and is awaiting citizenship, should be stripped of his Green Card and deported by violating US laws by harboring a felon - I.e., a person who is in the country illegally.
Oh, so families are important? Were they important when it was ok to sneak into the country illegally, putting all family members at risk?
I’m sick of the media having no opinion of illegal immigration until they flush out some story about how the government is using immigration laws to heartlessly divide families. Bouillabaisse! If your loved ones are sooo important to you, keep your ignorant ass in your own country until you can immigrate legally. Apparently if you love your family, then there are worse things in life than not living in the US.
Follow the law and be punished, break the law and be rewarded. Hank Reardon would not be surprised.
